Chapter 36 - This Is Bad

Delvin was extremely busy dodging left and right, at times he was making twists and spirals. He was using his maximum power. It wasn't easy, he had trained alone, so carrying an extra weight was slowing him down, and he found it quite challenging, but what other option did he have? He had to do anything in his power to save his beloved. In about eighteen minutes, he was at Death Driven Valley. He alighted on the ground with a loud thud, emerged into the cave carrying Jasmine in his arms, who didn't seem tired or had any sign of sweat on his body. He was on the look, attentively, swaying his eyes on all sides, everywhere as he walked further into the cave. Jasmine had fainted, that means she must have missed vital scenarios on the way up here. That was not important for Mister Delvin Dred but the safety of Jasmine.

Delvin wasn't aware that Jasmine had fainted nor did he notice when or exactly at what point had that happened? As he reached the furthest, he laid Jasmine down on the ground. The sooner he was about to let go of her, her eyelids twitched, slowly opening her swollen red eyes, Delvin, immediately, comforted her, 'Relax, you are safe here with me.'

Jasmine gazed into Delvin's troubled eyes, 'What is happening, where are we?' Jasmine inquired, expressing extreme concern.

Delvin was searching in his mind for answers and on how to explain, 'Wait, we were flying, you have wings, you do have wings, right? I wasn't dreaming? Oh, no! The sky raining with fireballs must have been real as well?' Jasmine fired a series of questions upon her realization of what was happening.

Before Delvin could respond to any of her questions, tears were streaming as sobbing followed after, in denial, 'Delvin tell me that all of this, is not true?' Jasmine expressed complete disbelief.

Looking at Delvin with her begging eyes, his facial expression was good enough, and an indication to convince her that everything, she recalled, she must have witnessed it, and was true.

' Who are you? Are you even human?' Jasmine asked, filled with confusion and unrest.

He sat next to her, held her in his arms with warm hands, hugging her shoulder by the side, letting her lean on his chest. Her eyes welled up with lots of tears which were backed up with sobbing as tears began dropping on his gut and then onto his stomach, wetting his blue shirt. Finally, when Jasmine calmed down, at the right moment, Delvin's mouth gently squeezed out the words, 'I am sorry, all you saw is true and real, I will leave you here, I have.'

Delvin was cut short, 'No! I can't stay here alone, please don't leave, I am so terrified, stay with me.' Jasmine pleaded, her face flashed red, tears were already streaming down her cheeks.

Delvin became speechless for a few minutes, something from within him kept bothering him, he had to act and really fast, 'Look, you are safe here even without me. It's the safest place I know. I want to understand what is happening out there. I cannot take you with me. It might turn out to be dangerous. I can take care of myself out there, but I am not sure if I could manage to protect us both and if anything happens to you, I wouldn't forgive myself. You are the most important person in my life. Do you understand that?' Delvin gave his main reason for leaving her out in the cave.

Jasmine was quiet, for nearly a minute, as if she did not get anything from what Delvin had just said. You could hear the silence of the cave, stones expanding slowly giving a cracking sound, the smell of dust weft through mixed with hot air. Both hearts thumped rhythmically in harmony, energy recycling as it roamed in equilibrium in the two vessels, subliminally up to their brains, slowing down the speed of the reactions in the brain, creating an adaptability and in the process calming down the nervous system and ultimately giving clarity in both minds.

'You can go but promise me to come back in peace or else?' Jasmine stated her decision.

She shut her mouth. A thought of the earlier chaos she saw had flashed into her brain. She needed to be strong, positive and supportive of Delvin in this unforeseen circumstance as she tapped deeper into her soul to gather the remaining courage and strength.

'Are you sure? You are fine now?' Delvin cautiously put forward his caring question, holding her hands tightly while his eyes directly engaged her eyes.

She shook her head up and down, indicating yes, 'Yes, don't worry, I will be fine. Go do what you have to do. Just remember the condition that is for you to come back to me.'

Delvin moved his head closer to her and kissed her soft tender lips, as she gently received his tight soft tongue. A spark exploded, igniting, firing electrons, or hormones which transported ecstasy and bliss into the outskirts of their bodies. Delvin withdrew his passionate kiss as he gave her a farewell kiss on her forehead, 'See you soon, I will be back, I promise.'

He let go of her and walked away out of the cave. At its outlet he paused, looking in every direction, being extra cautious, turned to look back at the cave and then disappeared in the thin air.

In about fifteen minutes, he found himself in an old building where he had been attacked some few days back by the gangsters. From here he could see the entire town and creatures which looked like humans dropping fire and shooting fire. It wasn't a meteorite after all, their faces were covered with an oxygen mask, with a gas tank behind their backs and had huge bodies like three times the humans. They had so much strength, the civilians, after being hit, were sent a distance of more than five meters away, and died or collapsed on the spot, 'Oh no? It's not a meteorite but an invasion? This is bad, what can I do?'

Delvin became agitated, as anxiety gripped him. He knew that this was war taking place, he was not an army person, he was just a single ordinary person, he thought to himself. Besides, he had never fought in a combat situation before, he was aware of his strength. His body, of course, could not be easily damaged, but fighting these deadly beasts head on, scared him to the wits and his loins and joints grew weaker at the thought of these barbarian, ruthless, unmerciful killers, who came to plunder, devour and consume the last existence of the earth when it was already in a dire state, on a verge of extinction from global warming and now this? This alien army had weapons which looked like guns with long nozzles attached to their front pipes. The guns fired out fire. Technically, to fight these kinds of creatures you need a different set of weapons, maybe some ice guns that could put the fire out, in return neutralize the enemy, and now on earth there already exists a huge problem of water. A big mother ship was landing on the ground with a thousand other small ships still descending.
