Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: Zari

As soon as mother left, Miss Lavender entered the room. "How are you feeling?" She asked. "A little tired, that's all." I answered. I began asking what happened after the battle. Some information was impossible to know from mother because she lacked enough military clearance. I then learnt that out of the 100 people, 12 had lost their lives, 70 of them had severe injuries and were out of the battlefield for good and the rest were mildly wounded. All in all, we suffered 100% injury rate. I pushed further to understand why this 12 had died but Miss Lavender was not forthcoming. That lying dragon told me the humans survived. Nathan and the Talon were not seriously injured. Nathan had a broken hand while the Wind talon hit her head after collapsing from exhaustion.

The operation's large scale mythical spell came to be known as the Angel's Tear by those who witnessed it. I later learnt that the spell was observed throughout the battlefield by each Talon's armies. That is very likely because the mushroom cloud itself as I was later told by my companion was over 30 kilometers in height. That is almost equivalent to a 10 megaton nuclear warhead detonating. Considering this information, we were extremely lucky to have suffered such few deaths. I stood up to go outside because I was feeling overwhelmed. "Are you fine to be walking on your own?" Miss Lavender asked. "Yes. I am not that tired. I can manage." I walked out of what looked like a separate field hospital and I was finally outside. I touched my chin as I was looking around. Hmm I grew a beard, the soldiers outside look happy. This was a very abnormal situation considering we had one week to come up with an answer for the Emperor Dragon. I walked towards an open pit. It was already evening so the fire was lit and people were sharing a meal while talking loudly amongst themselves. I went, took a plate of food and sat among them. "Did you hear that the White Eagle is awake?" "Really? Now we can go and face those damned dragons" "What he managed to pull with the 100 elites was amazing. Have you ever seen such a burst of power?" "I was part of the soldiers that retreated in that battle. They truly saved us." Opinions were flying all over the place. Me defeat a family of Dragons? This guys are riding on previous successes to determine outcome of future battles. "Guys, what do you think of serving under the emperor dragon. It can't be that bad right?" I asked to gauge their reactions. An empty plate flew past me clearly targeting me. I easily dodged it. "A lot of lives have been lost to simply give up at this stage. Do not mock the dead." A furious young man responded. "You need to understand that the dragons have both intelligence and unfathomable amount of power. You cannot hope to win against them." I countered. This time he readied a spear and looked straight at me. "Shut up. If you are scared why don't you run home." he answered. I then looked at the crowd that had gathered here and started addressing them. "What do you guys think? If we do reach an agreement then no further lives will be lost. All we would need to ask is that we retain our current share of land." I asked. "I mean if the dragons agree to leave our land alone I do not care who is in charge." Answered an older gentleman. "Ending the war here would be good. I also heard that the White Eagle threw a spear against a dragon and it was not injured." Said another looking dignified lady. "Yes, I was there. The spear throw had erased thousands of monsters prior but the dragon put up a barrier and blocked the attack. We should not try to fight dragons." Said an injured man. I sensed a lot of blood lust from my left side. "I said shut up." The young man screamed. He threw the spear at me. I was getting tired of his antics. I did not move, instead I used matter disintegration and turned the spear into powder. "I have already heard your opinion. Kindly let me hear other opinions as well. You might hit other people so I kindly request that you stop throwing spears." I said with a stone cold face. I am trying to make a decision that will save countless numbers of human lives. What is wrong with this person? The atmosphere was tense. A spear was thrown at somebody with the intention to kill. The most bizarre thing was that the spear simply turned to powder before it reached its target. "I will not miss again you coward." He said as he was going for another spear. I was beyond irritated, I was angry that fools who know nothing of war dared to push their own twisted world views. I was the one who defeated the enemies and you think you know more than me? The air around me vibrated violently. Those who were around me found it difficult to breathe due to the increase in pressure. The young man was levitating in front of me unable to move. "Let me go you moron. I am the son of the Wind Talon. Mess with me and I will make your life a living hell." He said. I started laughing like a maniac and then suddenly stopped. I looked at him dead in the eye and asked him. "Do you think my power is limited to dealing with a spear or Could I turn your right arm to dust?" The situation had escalated to a point where there was a crowd gathering near me. "He was always such a bad child." "I do not feel pity for him, he extorted me with goons last week." The opinions all confirmed what I had felt all along. This individual was a cancer that needed to be removed immediately. "Please sir White Eagle forgive my foolish son." The Wind Talon threw herself at my feet. "Why should I? I do not need such a negative individual on this battlefield." I answered coldly. "Did you know that your son was mistreating people who are risking their lives for all our sakes?" I asked. "Answer me!" I spoke softly while looking at her. The other Talons who had arrived here started begging for leniency. "What do you think should be done about this thug. He extorted fellow soldiers, beat those who could not pay to death while using his mother's position." I asked the Talons. My eyes were red with anger. "I will resign from my position as the Wind Talon please forgive my son." She said. "Yes that will be enough." "Let us forgive the boy. He is just young and unruly." The Talon's all spoke with the same language. So this is what has been happening under my nose this whole time. In due time, I will have to reform the whole army starting from the top. "I am not willing to lose a talented Wind Talon like you. However, your son will be imprisoned for all the deaths he has caused. Killing innocent people cannot be simply forgiven." I added. I went closer to the Wind Talon's ear and whispered. "This is an order. If you disobey this order I will execute both you and your son right now." After a short period of silence, she responded. "I swear my loyalty to the White Eagle and will follow everything you have asked sir." I let the young man who was levitating on the ground. "How dare you make mother kneel and cry on the ground you bastard." This was the first thing he said once he landed. I am really going to hurt this kid. I looked at the faces around me. Everybody had a tired and resigned look on their faces. I took one step towards his direction but before I could take another, dust blew all over my face. I could see the Wind Talon heading towards her son. BAAM, she punched her son on the face leading to him tumbling down. She bowed her head and apologized for her son's outburst. She then turned around and started lashing at her son. "What is wrong with you? Why would you throw a spear at a random person you have never met? " The wind Talon asked. The son looked like someone who had never experienced consequences before this. I had grown tired of this, I looked at the Talons and moved to where they were. "We shall talk tomorrow." I said to them as I left the scene. I had an accurate idea where I was and where to go to meet Zari. I went to an open area, crouched and jumped high to the sky. I was going to control my flight with wind magic. My strength had increased dramatically. The distance I jumped was easily over 1 kilometer in height alone. Maybe I should try creating some wings. In an instant with matter combination, I had a gigantic pair of white wings. The control was very difficult at first but after a few tries, I was now effortlessly gliding in the air. I arrived at the previous battlefield where I saw a large crater. No vegetation was present in sight. I flew and landed at the center of it. This has to be a minimum of 100 meters deep I thought. "You sure did take your time." Zari said while smiling. "I was dealing with some stuff." I answered casually. "Were you really going to amputate that kid?" Zari asked. "Wait, you were there?" I asked. "Yes. I actually left at the same time as you. Your flight techniques are so slow and inefficient. I have been waiting for you for the past few minutes." Zari said. I personally think I was really fast but if she says so then it is probably true. "Can you teach me your technique then so I don't get late to our meetings." I said while smirking. "Sure, join us and I will teach you even more techniques." She answered. This is going to be a very difficult negotiation. She led me towards the great forest while matching my 'slow' flight speed. "How comes you are not using wings? How are you floating up like that?" I asked. "Join us and I will tell you." She said smiling. We continued flying above the great forest. It was now at night, I could not really see the scenery as well as I would have liked. We flew high up a mountain and landed near an entrance to a cave. The cave had an enormous decorated gate at the entrance. The two doors opened inwards. I was shocked for words. The floor was lined with marble and the interior was well lit with fire. "Meet me inside the throne room." Zari said as she zoomed past me. Her speed was incredibly fast to follow. "Hey! Did you forget it's my first time here?" I shouted but she was already gone. The doors closed themselves and the lights went out as soon as I entered. I had slain many monsters and as a result, I had gained various natural battle abilities such as a sharp intuition and increased reaction speed. I already had night vision from the time I tamed my pet fox. This environment was not disadvantageous to me at all. I sensed multiple individuals surrounding me, I waited to see what they were going to do. Suddenly, a fire attack was thrown in my direction. I dodged it and responded by sending a lightning bolt in that direction. A barrier blocked that attack. This was probably a test to see if my strength was enough to allow for negotiations. We were now actively attacking each other while trying to use limited attacks. The movements of my attackers were incredibly fast. I managed to avoid 70% of the attacks while the rest hit me. I had a rock membrane with a barrier on but still that was not enough. The barrier and the rock membrane would easily get chipped away after being hit with the various fire spells. I suffered various burns on my body which I easily healed. This was a very difficult fight. I decided to run while counter attacking. I could not use destructive level spells because my opponents were also not going full strength on me."Why are you not using your full strength?" I heard a young voice ask. "Three reasons. You are also not going full strength. I do not want to destroy this home and finally I am not really interested in harming you." I answered. A short while later, I heard a voice. "Good work children. That is enough." The fires lit themselves and I could clearly see where I was. "Zora? When did you? Who are all these guys? I didn't even see them with my night vision." I asked confused. I was in an open hall with stands at the top where around 100 people sat. I highly doubt they are humans of course but that was not the point. They hid their presence so well that I could not see or sense them. "Welcome to the throne room. You have passed the test as someone who is strong and capable to have negotiations with." Zora said. Well which question is this guy answering? Perhaps he saw my dissatisfied look and continued. "This is my family." Pointed Zora towards the crowd. "You were invited here to determine whether you were worthy enough to have discussions with. For a human, your match with our children was spectacular to watch." He continued. Suddenly a group of five children looking no older than 7 years old came towards me. "Hey. You are actually really good. Only our race can do what you did." "Hi, Im three hundred years old let us be friends. How old are you?" "It's a shame we could not make him use more strength." Various opinions were flying. I had this much trouble against five dragon kids? The hell? "Okay children. Let our guest relax a little." Zora said. "You must be the White Eagle." An older gentleman who looked like Zora said. This must be the Emperor Dragon. I quickly used my phoenix eye to look at his strength. After that I quickly dropped to one knee, bowed and answered yes. No way in hell was I going to risk the wrath of this being. His mana reserves were counted as 4.3 million. As far as I am concerned all humans on the Island are now under the rule of the Emperor Dragon from this point forward.
