I knew he was Russian, but I didn't know he was a don. That meant that the 'boys' I heard over the phone were doing the dirty work for him.
It was three days after, and the thought still lingered in my mind about how I got into this situation. I didn't hate it, I was just shocked!
My ADHD had been triggered anyways. I'd always been one to impulsively act or do things, it was naturally just a part of me. Ever since I was little, I'd do the most bizarre things and junp from one task to another, even if I knew I'd get punished for it. It's why I got tired of my parents' house.
It was too structured, making me work like a robot day and night. I loved doing things at my own pace and time, but unfortunately, the only thing speaking up in my house would get you? A big ol' black eye.
But that impulsiveness had already took over me again, you see. 'Cause now I could perceive the aroma of roasted coffee beans, in the midst of hundred of tiny tires, rolling across the waxed floor.
I could also make out the faint scent of diesel fuel, just as a male voice boomed from the PA system, announcing for boarding of planes in Gate 5A.
5A. That was my gate, but I was already patiently sitting here, waiting…
One by one, we all boarded the plane. with pregnant women, first class and business class taking priority.
When I was in the plane, it finally dawned on me that I was actually doing this. I was out to find the vial in a country that was so foreign to me, that I'd probably get kidnapped.
I rested my head against the window, looking out. The plane was yet to fly, as the air hostess went through the safety protocols and told us to strap in.
Then, we were off.
As the plane ascended into the air, I watched through the windows, as the large buildings turned into tiny toys. We were so high that I could barely see them anymore, and my heart kept dropping from thrill as the plane kept going higher and higher.
Finally, it was stabilised on the air. It'd take me 9 hours and 30 minutes to arrive in Zurich. I pulled out my phone, ensuring its on Airplane Mode, before I went back to my gallery. The folder specified where the vial was kept, which served as my map of some sorts.
Atleast I wasn't totally lost, I had a mission and I was going to get through with it, maybe this would make Ali realize it isn't worth keeping Karina around.
As odd as he treated me with his cold demeanor, I believed he could still be soft. There was still hope for us, and this would make everything all better.
This was definitely something that Karina would never have the balls to do. I was the one here, I wanted to mark my spot and I'd make sure I do that.
As thoughts flowed through my mind, I tucked my phone bag in my bag and drifted off to sleep.
~~~
The turbulence jilted me awake, but it wasn't turbulence. We had safely landed and I was now in Zurich.
Awesome! The atmosphere felt different and it was colder here. I was escorted out the plane, and picked my luggage bag before heading out to book a hotel. It'd just be for two nights, I was jetlagged and needed rest.
I approached one of the taxis and showed him a picture of a hotel I pulled up on my phone. "Here. I'm going here." I pointed at the picture, hoping he understood.
"Haha, I understand you perfectly fine, get in." He said. Were they fluent in English? When I was doing my research, I must've skipped that part.
Upon arriving at the hotel, I booked a room, paid and went up as soon as I could. From my room, was a beautiful street view and the hotel itself was glamorous at such an affordable rate. But that was not what was on my mind, I needed sleep, so I flopped into bed and slept.
~~~~
I woke up groggy, and feeling relieved though my body wasn't at balance yet due to timezones and all. It was afternoon the next day, which means I had slept for close to 16 hours. I felt good, I stretched, got ready and headed out.
"I'm going to Lauterbrunnen Village," I said to the taxi driver. You know where that is?"
He nodded, "Hop in."
It was a long drive, about 2 hours and the ride was costly, but it wasn't as if I could turn back now.
Apparently, there were some rocks which harbored the entrance to a cave. and in that cave was the vial.
I searched and searched he'd until I found it. I had passed it before, but when I looked closely and pushed the rock, there it was, the entrance.
I was kind of nervous now. Was I supposed to just walk into a dark, scary cave? I pulled out my flashlight, shining it in the cave. It wasn't pitch black, there was a dim light on the far distance, and I could hear a gentle hum of electricity. What could it be?
I stepped one foot in warily. Maybe I should turn back?
No, I wouldn't leave without getting what I wanted to.
I walked towards the light until I came across a metal door, it was locked shut. Sealed tightly, in fact it looked impossible to get through. I shone my light around, and I guess it must've triggered something, because a bat flew at me with full force.
"Ahhhh!" I tumbled over on my back, hitting my leg on the jagged rock beneath me. I was bleeding severely and the cut seemed deep. When I turned my flashlight back up again, I saw a damn family of bats, staring at me.
The metal door groaned, opening very slowly, my damn blood was everywhere and I hated bats. So you know what I did?
I bolted, ran for my life. I was going to get treated, and then take the soonest flight back to Chicago and stay there.
When I'd reached the outside of the cave, I looked back. The door was shut again. But how'd it even open in the first place?
