Taking a huge gulp, Amber tapped the power button on the tablet, and it immediately opened to a folder, with shaky hands she tapped on it, stealing a few glances at Dante, his cold, emotionless face gave her more anxiety than she could imagine.
She couldn't believe that it would be this easy, he made it this easy.
'I'm sorry.' She apologized in her mind then started reading through only for her frown to get deeper and deeper each sentence she read.
This was no company secret or anything, it is just a PDF with several food recipes in it.
She wanted to ask questions but chose to stay silent thinking of what could have happened.
Could it be that he already knew who she was and this was a form of warning?
Was that why he hired her out of the blue, even though it was not for the position she came for.
"You're not reading?" Dante questioned causing Amber to turn towards him.
His elbow rested on the door and his head on his palms, his eyes were closed making her wonder how he saw her.
"Errm." Amber stammered not knowing what to say, would it be considered rude to tell your boss he gave you the wrong file?
She had already messed up their first meeting by being so brazen and holding his hand.
She wouldn't have, but at that point she was desperate.
"Amber?" Dante asked in a hoarse voice, causing Amber to snap out of her thoughts to see him staring at her with his phone in his hands.
"Yes." She responded, her whole face going red, must men looked overly serious with their glasses but for some reason this man just seemed different, especially with his blue eyes.
'Snap out of it Amber, he is your enemy for now, just focus on not getting caught and avoid everything else, so the guilt won't eat you up later.' She cautioned herself in her mind when it suddenly clicked.
She didn't remember telling him her name, how did he find out?
Seeing the confusion all over her face, Dante raise his brows a bit before speaking.
"Don't tell me you thought that I would give you my company's secret and a job just like that without running a background check on you first?" He asked unable to believe a person could be this-should he call her naive or dumb?
"I'm sorry." Amber bit her lip as she bowed her head in apology. "But you could have just asked, it's rude to check someone's background without asking." She added in a low voice.
Though she looked calm on the surface deep down inside was chaos, her hands started to sweat as her panic multiplied.
A background check.
What if he finds out she's from the Talesman's family, the same family that has been neck on neck with the Rivera family for as long as she could remember.
Thinking back to her family, Amber remembered another part of the deal her parents made with her, that if she could successfully bring down Rivera Jewels and gather enough information, she, Amber, will finally have a place in Cortlandt Luster, their family company, the main reason why she studied Business administration.
Left for her, immediately she was done with college she would have joined the company, it was also her contingency plan to pay back the loan sharks.
But then again, her parents said she didn't have enough experience and wasn't ready yet.
So then, Amber had to work other jobs to gain experience, as for Clara, she worked at the company, her parents thought it was the best way for her to get experience since she wasn't too exposed to the world.
Dante was stunned at her come back, wasn't she being all timid and stuff, "What did you just say?" He asked and got no response.
"I am talking to you, if you keep this up you'll be fired." Dante's cold voice cut through Amber's thought once more causing her to jolt.
Her grey eyes held a one-second-long contact with his blue ones before she became red once more turning away from him and looking at the tab, there's no way she just said that.
Why won't she though? What if he catches on.
"I forgot to tell you the details of your job." Dante stated looking pissed as he decided to ignore her remark.
No one is going to tell him how to run his company, especially not a timid new worker.
When Amber's head shot up as she looked at him with fear what is to happen next.
'Her job determines whether or not she can get information from the CEO'S office.' Amber looked ready to cry at the news as her eyes immediately pooled, her parents would kill her if she missed this chance.
"You're meant to bring me coffee from now on." He explained further still staring at our faces or the people at his back.
"I'll try my best sir." She responded with her quickened heart beat finally returning to its normal rate, his response and change of subject meant that he didn't pick anything from the background check.
That was good right?
Dante scoffed before going through his phone once more.
He had asked the interviewer to send her information to him, she indeed had a lot of potential.
His guts feeling earlier was justified, the only problem she had now is her timidness.
Though, her calling out to him in the lobby and her remark just now showed him one thing, she is suppressing it.
This woman had potential, she just needed a reassurance? Or maybe encouragement to unleash it.
He shouldn't bother with all these things and could have just employed her and let a subordinate take her under their wing and groom her.
But he couldn't ignore this time around, perhaps it's something about her eyes.
Yes, her eyes, they remind him of her that's all there is to it.
Dante snapped out of his thoughts when the car came to a halt.
"You are no secretary, at least not yet, you are not to speak until asked, you are just a female companion tonight, this is just a way to learn." He instructed.
Seeing Amber nod meekly, Dante felt reality dawn on him, perhaps he was too abrupt with bringing her to such an important meeting on the first day.
With this character of hers what if she messes it up?
"Don't mess this up." He stressed, while he got the nod as a response again.
Sighing, Dante adjusted his glasses before alighting the car.
Damn those smoky grey eyes of hers, they made him do this, hopefully he won't regret it later on.
Amber tilted her head blinking repeatedly, she could figure out he is angry but not why, either ways, this meeting could be a source of information to her parents.
