"You can't run forever, Avery," a low voice called out from behind her.
Avery spun around, her breathing uneven, eyes scanning the dark forest. Shadows shifted, the faint sound of twigs snapping making her heart race.
"Who's there?" she demanded, her voice trembling but steady enough to mask her growing panic.
A figure emerged from the trees, his eyes glinting in the dim moonlight. It was a rogue, his smirk cruel. "Did you really think you could leave without being noticed?"
Avery took a step back, her mind racing. "Stay back," she warned, her hands shaking as she tried to summon the courage she knew she would need.
Another voice spoke from her left. "We've been watching you since you left the pack house. Liam's been waiting."
Her stomach dropped. "What does he want from me?"
The first rogue chuckled darkly. "He wants what you have, and you know exactly what that is."
