Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: The Shrinking Spell Gone Wrong

Elyas had managed to amass a rather impressive collection of magical mishaps—exploding potions, rogue butterflies, and botanical hurricanes. Determined to prove that he was more than just a walking disaster zone, he decided to tackle one of the more advanced spells: shrinking objects. His plan was to shrink a chair and then restore it to its original size. Simple, right? What could possibly go wrong?

In the dimly lit classroom of Professor Grimbald, Elyas took a deep breath. His wand was firmly in hand, and he was ready to show everyone that he could handle the complexities of shrinking magic. The chair in question, a large, sturdy piece of furniture, sat innocently in the center of the room.

Professor Grimbald, with his usual mix of sternness and vague disinterest, gave Elyas the nod to begin.

Professor Grimbald (nonchalantly): "Remember, Elyas, the spell should only affect the chair. Nothing else."

Elyas nodded, his confidence bolstered by his recent success with the flower spell. He pointed his wand at the chair, his mind fully focused.

Elyas (determined): "Diminui obiectus!"

The chair shimmered briefly, and Elyas's heart swelled with pride. He had done it! But then, much to his horror, the shrinking effect didn't just stop at the chair. It began to creep up his legs, and before he could comprehend what was happening, he found himself rapidly shrinking.

Elyas (panicking): "Oh no, not again!"

In mere seconds, Elyas went from a towering mage to no taller than a pencil. The classroom, once a familiar environment, now loomed like a vast landscape. Professor Grimbald's desk was now a skyscraper, and the floor beneath him resembled an enormous, uncharted terrain.

Elyas (squeaking): "Help! I'm tiny!"

His attempts to shout for help were nothing more than high-pitched squeaks. The students around him continued their lessons obliviously, completely unaware of the tiny figure darting between their feet. Elyas darted between giant book covers and towering desks, trying desperately to avoid getting squished. His tiny form scampered around, only to be interrupted by a rogue pencil that seemed as big as a tree trunk.

Just as Elyas was trying to climb over a piece of paper that felt like a mountain, he heard the familiar sound of laughter. He looked up to see Seraphina, who had been practicing across the room, notice his frantic movements. She squatted down, her eyes wide as she peered at the tiny figure below her.

Seraphina (smirking): "Elyas... what are you doing down there?"

Elyas (squeaking louder): "Fix it! Please!"

Seraphina's face broke into a grin as she extended her hand to help. She picked him up carefully, cradling him in her palm. From his vantage point, Elyas could see the classroom in a whole new light—or rather, a whole new height. He was both impressed and horrified by how enormous everything appeared.

Seraphina, still chuckling, decided to have a bit of fun before helping Elyas. She wiggled her fingers slightly, causing Elyas to wobble in her hand.

Seraphina (teasingly): "So, do you enjoy the view from down there?"

Elyas (frustrated): "Not particularly! Can you please just return me to normal size?"

Seraphina, with an exaggerated sigh, used her wand to reverse the shrinking spell. Elyas felt a sudden rush as he grew back to his normal size. He stumbled as he adjusted to his full height, feeling a bit dizzy from the rapid change.

As Elyas regained his balance, he noticed Professor Grimbald looking down at him with an amused expression.

Professor Grimbald (dryly): "Well, Elyas, I must say, you've managed to shrink both yourself and the chair. Not quite what I had in mind, but impressive in its own way."

Elyas (sheepishly): "I really didn't mean to—"

Before he could finish, a stray student accidentally bumped into the now-enlarged chair, sending it crashing to the ground with a loud thud.

Elyas (exasperated): "And that's why I was trying to avoid making it worse."

The class erupted into a mixture of laughter and concern. Seraphina, still holding Elyas's wand, shook her head in disbelief.

Seraphina: "Elyas, you've really outdone yourself this time. Next time, maybe start with something less... monumental."

Elyas (groaning): "I'll try. Maybe something that doesn't involve turning myself into a human-size ant."

As Elyas and Seraphina began to clean up the chaos, Professor Grimbald strolled over, examining the remains of the chair.

Professor Grimbald (raising an eyebrow): "You know, Elyas, if you keep this up, we might need to invest in a larger-sized chair just for you. Or perhaps a giant ant suit."

Elyas (rolling his eyes): "I think I'd prefer to stick to normal-sized chairs. And maybe practice spells that don't require emergency rescue."

Seraphina couldn't help but laugh as she helped Elyas collect his things. The classroom was finally settling back into its normal rhythm, though Elyas had once again proven that his magical skills were, at best, unpredictable.

As the students began to filter out of the room, Seraphina gave Elyas a reassuring pat on the back.

Seraphina: "Don't worry. Every great mage has their... unique approach. Yours just happens to involve more chaos than most."

Elyas (grinning): "Well, if nothing else, at least I'm memorable."

Seraphina (laughing): "Indeed. And who knows? Maybe someday, you'll master shrinking spells without turning yourself into a human-sized crumb."

Elyas couldn't help but laugh at the absurdity of it all. Despite his magical mishaps, he felt a renewed sense of determination. If he could survive shrinking spells, sentient cakes, and floral hurricanes, surely he could master the art of magic—eventually. For now, he was just grateful for friends who could turn his magical misadventures into amusing anecdotes and lessons learned.

As he left the classroom, Elyas resolved to approach his next spell with a bit more caution—though he suspected that his magical journey would continue to be filled with unexpected surprises and plenty of laughter.
