Chapter 5 - Asking For Advice

..........

"So what do you want to ask me?" Dawn asked Barry.

People had reasons for visiting other people. Some opted for company, information, mental assurance and others.

People like Gary the "lofty one" visited people seldom. They did not even have the guts to ask someone for their opinion on something, they just thought they would be able to do everything their selves.

"I want to ask for advice on training advice on baby Pokémon and protective materials." Barry admitted immediately.

"Didn't we already learn all of that at the academy, or weren't you paying attention?" She asked as she observed the Nidoran on the ground playing with a random Pokédoll.

"If you look closely at this specific Nidoran you would notice that it is more purple than regular Nidoran found in the wild. It also gives off a very faint venomous aura even though it isn't through infant stage." I said.

"Is that so?" She said as she began observing it.

"… faint? That's the best you can come up with, faint! Even if it is hard to notice one you feel it it's almost at the level of the poisonous aura a Nidoking exhibits, and you call it faint!! We just might as well call a Groudon weak!"

Was this overreacting? Barry couldn't tell. Or maybe because he wasn't taking the aura seriously… Or maybe because his father was crazy.

A former scientist for the World War II wouldn't be very helpful for humanitarian matters. They created nukes to end lives so it was very unexpected that one of them would have a child.

His comfort was anime, one of the reasons for watching it was the fact that his father was still working for Russia! Before he had gone poof from his old life, he remembered his father going out secretly.

70 yrs old, 40 yrs old = 18 yrs old kid. That was the equation that birthed life into him.

Though, he had to be thankful that he was not another "experiment". But that strays way ahead of the current topic…

"Forgive me for not describing my Pokémon's ability to the best of the abilities." He said. "I just want to ask if there is any place where I could buy some poison resistant gloves so that I won't be affected by poison point?"

Now that he had gotten the question out it felt like this conversation would flow more smoothly…

"I don't know where you can buy one… But, even if I knew you wouldn't be able to afford it." She informed him.

"How much is one pair?" He asked her.

"The lowest price would be 180,000 Poké and that would be if you were to haggle."

"I won't be able to afford it before the indigo league starts." Barry said in realization.

He had come to understand that this was 100% not a dream. Even if he was in Pokémon, a new timeline that had been visited by no one other. Red, Gary, Blue and Ash co-existed with each other.

"No kidding, the indigo league starts in 9 months so technically, all of us are somewhat at both a disadvantage and advantage."

"I don't want to stray away from the topic here…" He then rubbed his cheeks as he tried to remember the other reason why he came to visit Leaf. "Oh, what are some training tips you can give me for my Nidoran."

"It's the same one we learned at the Pokémon Academy." She told him expecting him to still remember.

Thankfully, Barry had an excuse for why he would need help.

"My Nidoran isn't the same with other Nidoran. The amount of poisonous aura it emanates is more than that of a Nidorono, yet the aura is hard to pick up unless you are actively trying to sense it."

….

Four men and one woman were seated in a room. The room was pure white, it had 3 windows with black blinds, 3 seater couches for the five of them to relax their bodies easily.

All of the men were dressed in various lab coats. The only difference between the set of clothing was what they wore underneath the white.

Professor Elm, Professor Sycamore, Professor Birch, Professor Ivy and Professor Oak.

"Are you sure you don't remember where you kept it? This is the biggest finding after the fact that not all Pokémon can Mega-Evolve!" Professor Sycamore reminded Prof. Oak for the 47th time.

"I kept it in the room where I kept the started Pokémon of this year's newbies." Prof. Oak said for the 54th time.

After surrounding a Nidoran's egg for 2 years continuously while postponing it's hatching to a later date, these five Professors discovered something that had been unheard of region wide!

"It will take us another 2 years to find and get another Pokémon that would be able to fit the bill." Prof. Birch said quickly, barely giving Professor Oak time to finish the sentence.

After surrounding the egg of a Nidoran that was estimated to have below average potential with a large amount of normal-grade poison type items, not only did the potential of the Pokémon increase tremendously…

…It also gave the Pokémon immense poisonous abilities. This Nidoran was a Pokémon that would have been eaten by a wild Arbok when it was still in its egg form, but the professors decided to examine it.

"Everyone here needs to calm down, it clearly isn't Oak's fault." Prof. Ivy was the only one who was close enough to call the Professor without the title.

Although the old man wouldn't object the others still felt like they would be indirectly disrespecting him. Though, every other person in this room had reduced morale due to the loss of a perfect discovery.

The research wasn't carried out by only one of them. The five of them participated in the discovery, findings and changes in the egg's physiology during the time its hatching was postponed.

The old man's eyes seem to be going backwards as he seemed to remember something related to that egg.

"If I recall correctly the egg hatched 5 days ago." He said while stroking a very short beard a little.

"I tried to inform all of you but you guys wouldn't have none of it! Talking about new Pokémon discovered in your regions or possible discoveries about new Pokémon."

The professor did not allow anyone talk as that would not only give him more things to explain than necessary but he might forget about this during the time wasted.

"I put it on the table next to all the normal starters…" The professor did not talk anymore except shake his head slightly.

The others even when they did not know what happened were still shocked by the most recent events.

"What happened?" Prof. Elm asked.

"A kid selected the Nidoran as his starter!" The oldest professor said.

"What?!"

The shouts could not echo due to the fact of where they were. But, the words still held their own gravity of shock, depression and hopelessness.

The law prevented someone from taking back a trainer's Pokémon, even if the Pokémon was given to him or her for free.

"What to do?" Prof. Ivy silently asked herself.

"What else can we do?" Birch said.

Four out of the five professors traded looks with each other. There was no grin on their face but there was a kind of relief that cane with those faces.

Faces that thought that there was hope if professor Oak from Pallet Town were to come and deal with this thing! The best way to stop someone from making the same mistake twice would be to make the certain someone clean up his or her mess.

Barry grinned as he left Dawn's room. He had gotten what he came for: training tips from someone who has actually lived more than 9 years on this planet.

What was surprising was the fact that he discovered that this Barry and Dawn were actually friends for sometime during the Pokémon Academy.

But, he stopped hanging around and talking to her so she left him.

He had actually rekindled that lost friendship. It was more buried under some light sand though.

If the means don't justify the ends what you are doing has no meaning under the sun! If you were to win a Pokémon battle, but all your Pokémon were to die the means wouldn't justify the ends!

But what mattered to Barry now was that he had to feed Nidoran…
