"He's dead! The king is dead!"
A female voice echoed around Elio Stardret, forcing him out of his sleep.
'How am I still alive?' he wondered.
The pain of bullets piercing through his chest as his big brother pulled the trigger again and again laughing like a maniac washed over him, prompting him to jerk upright and check his chest.
'No wounds? How in the hell is this even possible? And what kind of outfit is this?'
He was wrapped in somewhat of a clown outfit, and nothing around him resembled anything from real life, let alone familiar.
The enormous bed in the middle of a huge room that looked like it was built to be a cathedral brought to his mind images of the rooms of kings and queens from his favorite fantasy shows.
'Am I hallucinating or something? Could this be the afterlife?'
Elio scanned the room for the female who had been shouting. Perhaps she could answer his questions and explain to him what was going on. For some reason, she was nowhere to be seen.
This confused Elio even more. 'Where's she? How am I supposed to know what's going on?'
Elio recalled the events leading to his death, searching for a clue.
'I was on my way to the gym when I received an email from Crunchoy offering me an adaptation of my novel into an anime.'
'This was huge news so I decided to run back to my apartment to celebrate with my big brother. But then, when I pushed the door open, I found my girlfriend there, cheating on me.'
'I was so heartbroken that I started bragging to them about how my novel was about to be made into an anime, how I was about to become so rich and how they would never get anything from it.'
Elio gritted his teeth when he recalled their reaction to his words. Not remorse, but anger. It was as if he was the one caught cheating.
He couldn't take it. He quickly told his brother to get out of his apartment, along with the bitch. He was the big brother, after all. He was supposed to be the one taking care of Elio, yet Elio was the one paying for all their expenses, but even then he had the audacity to eff his girlfriend.
As for the girlfriend, Elio didn't even want to look at her anymore.
Elio had been writing web novels for 5 years, and ever since he started earning from them, he took care of his big brother's bills to encourage him to quit gang life.
His girlfriend was into acting, but she was yet to earn from it. Since she was their childhood friend, Elio felt responsible for her. He even paid for her to get into an acting training program.
After all, their parents were in the same car the day the civil war broke out in their country and a bomb dropped on it. She had no one to turn to, financially, other than him.
He couldn't believe she would dare cheat on him.
'I'll never forgive them!' thought Elio as the last conversation he had had with them sipped into his mind.
"Oh!" exclaimed his big brother as he jumped off the bed. He grabbed his jacket that was lying on the floor and pulled a pistol from its pocket, asking, "You think you can cast us aside like we're trash, huh?"
His brother had been abusing drugs for years, and he had anger issues. That's why when he pointed the gun at him, Elio thought he was just trying to scare him like he had done so many times before. However, this time, the bastard pulled the trigger right away, not even giving him a chance to answer the question.
"Your fan base doesn't know your true identity. I am the author now. All your novels are mine. Thank God most are completed. We'll receive all the payments from Crunchoy and live off of the royalties from them. Thank you brother. Thank you."
The maniac pulled the trigger again and again, laughing as the smokes from the vape sprouted out of his mouth.
Before Elio fell, he saw his girlfriend jump off the bed, naked, and strolled toward his brother. She then went on her knees and grabbed his dick to continue what they were doing, glancing at Elio from time to time with a sly smile on her face.
Even a fool could see they had planned this a long time ago, and Elio had only presented them with a perfect opportunity.
'If only I could get a chance for revenge, only God knows what I would do to them.'
Feeling like crying, Elio tried to shift his focus on figuring out his current situation.
'I should be dead,' he thought. 'Yet I don't even have wounds. I'm in a place that looks like a palace and someone has been shouting that the king is dead. That sounds like how I would start a transmigration novel, right? Did I...'
It was as if this thought unlocked a ghost that had been hiding around because, suddenly, black smoke swirled around him, penetrating into his nose and ears.
He felt dizzy and his vision became blurry, but the pain spreading throughout his body was more intense than any of these other feelings.
It was like his big brother was shooting at him again, but this time all over his body.
Seconds felt like eternity, but soon, foreign memories started invading his mind, distracting him from feeling the pain.
[Elio Stardret. 22 years old. King of Stardret Dynasty, Protector of the Realm and the...]
Elio was still processing the new information when someone pushed open the door to the room and a beautiful woman walked in with a girl in a sexy maid outfit, 4 bulky men resembling knights trailing behind.
As soon as they saw him, they all halted in their tracks, exchanging glances.
"My Queen, he was dead. I swear!" said the maid, avoiding both Elio's gaze and the woman's.
'Now everything makes sense,' thought Elio. 'This maid is the one who has been shouting the king is dead when I woke up.'
With his new memories, he knew who the woman was. The Queen. Technically, his wife. She had poisoned him and bragged to him how she was the one who poisoned his father 2 years ago, that his kingdom would soon become her father's. She told him how she never loved him and so many other horrible things.
This explained why when she saw him alive, she halted in her steps and looked at the maid, both flabbergasted and frightened.
Elio let out a chuckle as he rose from the bed. "What's wrong? Surprised your poison didn't work on me as it did on my father? Hehe! Looks like someone has to change where she buys her poisons."
The knights were confused, but the Queen understood she was in trouble. She quickly tried to run away, but Elio was fast to react.
"Catch her!"
The knights grabbed her.
"Don't touch me! Don't touch me, you low-born filthies! I'm your Queen!"
Elio burst out laughing, the same laughter his brother gave him as he shot him. If he could not go back to take his revenge, why not take it in this world?
"There's no need to remind them who you are," said Elio as he approached the tall knight and pulled his sword from its sheath. "They've known it from the very first day you entered this palace and turned their lives into a living hell."
Elio swiped his gaze across the knights' somewhat satisfied faces and said, "I'm sorry that it took me this long to realize what a snake she is. It's time I put an end on her and avenge us all."
He proceeded to raise the sword in the air, but before he could strike, the Queen quickly untied her blue dress and touched her breasts teasingly as it slid to the floor to reveal her perfect naked body.
"You know we can solve this without violence, right?" she said, her voice seductive, her eyes lustful.
