Chapter 8 - Rest

Hee Jin was busy scribbling notes on a piece of paper while staring intently at the computer screen in front of her. The room was filled with the soft hum of electronics and the occasional murmur of officers discussing their cases. Suddenly, Lee Sung burst into the room, his face flushed with urgency. He placed a laptop beside Hee Jin's, drawing her attention.

"Did you find something?" Hee Jin asked, her eyes narrowing with curiosity.

Lee Sung sighed deeply and nodded. "You need to see this," he said, playing the CCTV footage from the street where the blonde man had been found unconscious. He stepped back, allowing Hee Jin to watch the video herself.

At first, Hee Jin watched with mild interest, but her eyes widened in shock as the footage played. She glanced back at Lee Sung, who shook his head, indicating he was just as baffled as she was. Hee Jin turned back to the screen, her heart racing.

The footage showed cars passing by, the street bustling with activity. Then, out of nowhere, the blonde man appeared in the middle of the road. Cars swerved to avoid him, narrowly missing him. It was as if he had materialized out of thin air in broad daylight.

Hee Jin paused the video and replayed it in slow motion, hoping to catch some detail she might have missed. But even in slow motion, the man appeared out of nowhere, a car passing by one moment, and then he was there the next.

She sighed, shaking her head in disbelief. "This doesn't make any sense," she muttered.

Lee Sung sat on the edge of the table, his expression troubled. "Well, what now? Clearly, he came out of nowhere. We can't prove he's not from here, Hee Jin, nor how he got there."

Hee Jin replayed the video once more, scrutinizing every frame, but there was nothing more to see. She leaned back in her chair, rubbing her temples. "We need to find out who he is and how he got here. This footage... it's impossible. But it's all we have."

Lee Sung nodded. "I'll keep digging. Maybe there's something we missed, some clue that can explain this."

Hee Jin sighed again, feeling the weight of the mystery pressing down on her. "Let's hope so. Because right now, we have more questions than answers."

Hee Jin leaned forward, her eyes still fixed on the screen. "Lee Sung, did you check the CCTV footage from 5th Street where the blonde disappeared after fighting our officers?"

Lee Sung's face lit up with excitement. "Yes, I did! You need to see this." He quickly navigated to the footage and played it for her.

Hee Jin watched intently as the video showed the aftermath of the fight. The blonde man was lying on the ground, unconscious. Suddenly, a man in a blue sky shirt and shorts appeared, looking around nervously. He glanced in all directions before approaching the blonde man. With a swift motion, he hit the blonde's head hard enough to ensure he stayed unconscious. Then, he looked around again, making sure no one was watching, and pulled the blonde aside, covering him with a large cloth.

Hee Jin's eyes widened in shock. "That's him! That's the man who took him!" She saw herself and the other officers arriving on the scene, searching the area. They were so close, yet they had missed the crucial moment.

Lee Sung nodded, his expression serious. "It looks like he knew exactly what he was doing. He waited for the right moment and then acted quickly."

Hee Jin replayed the footage, her mind racing. "We need to find out who this man is. He might have answers about our mysterious blonde."

Lee Sung agreed.

"run facial recognition on him and see if we can get an ID. In the meantime, we should check if there are any other cameras in the area that might have caught where he took the blonde." Hee Jin commanded

Lee Sung nodded,

She wanted to say something else too when she turned to look at him when she figured out something about lee sung.

He was hiding something from her. She wanted to burst him open but before she could say anything, Lee Sung smiled childishly at her. "I already did," he said, his eyes twinkling with excitement.

He reached over to his desk and grabbed a stack of papers. "His name is Mun Kee," Lee Sung announced, handing the papers to Hee Jin. "And I found his address. He lives on 7th Street, house number 42, from what insee here he might be his accomplice."

" I don't think an accomplice would hit his guy on the head just to escape the police Lee Sung"

" Maybe they had a fight and...."

" Lee sung what you say makes no logic, if you want to say something then atleast say something logic!!" She said as she rolled her eyes at him.

Lee sung stared at her beifre he retorted back " Right, and you saying that the blonde guy is an alien just because he's strong and speaks a weird language which I know for sure he made it up isn't "

Hee Jin's eyes widened at him before she turned away looking angry and decided not to say anything more continue the topic.

Lee Sung knowing he messed up, he bit his lower lip and sigh beifre he too changing the topic and lighten the mood

"I ran these as soon as i saw the footage as i thought it might be useful, if you're not tired enough We can head over there right now and see if we can find any more clues."

Hee Jin sigh before she nodded at him, feeling a surge of hope. "Sure, Lee Sung. Let's move quickly. We need to get to Mun Kee's place before he realizes we're onto him."

With renewed determination, they gathered their things and prepared to head out, ready to uncover more about the mysterious blonde man and the secrets surrounding him.

Just as Hee Jin and Lee Sung were about to leave, their chief walked in, his expression stern. "Hold on, you two," he said, raising a hand to stop them.

Hee jin and Lee sung stopped before they greeted him, it was already 10 pm so what was the chief still doing here til this hour?

Was the questions that ran In Lee sung and hee Jin's mind. But yet, smiled at him and asked " chief, you're still here?" Hee jin asked.

" is Mrs. Park not at home tonight sir?!" Lee Sung asked mischievously.

Chief park stared at him before hitting him on the head " you brat, I onky cane back here to get back my coat, I forgot it when I left but you two, why are you still here til this hour? Shouldn't you be around your homes now?"

Hee jin was about to answer when Lee sung butted in " Well sir... Hee Jin is obsessed with our new criminal so we've been trying to figure out where he disappeared to" he answered sadly...faking it obviously.

" But we've already located him sir, we are going to arrest him now" hee jin added in.

The chief got surprised and said to him " what??!! No no no Hee Jin, I know I asked you to handle this case but on your shifts,You've been working since morning. It's time to rest. Tomorrow, with fresh energy, you can continue."

Hee Jin frowned, her determination unwavering. "But Chief, we need to go now before he gets away. We have a lead!"

The chief shook his head. "They don't know we're onto them, and we don't have an arrest warrant. They won't get away tonight, and beside, Yeong su and his partner are here, it's their shift, I'll provide them with an arrest warrant and once you two come vack early morning tomorrow, you'll find your favorite criminal behind bars!!!."

Hee Jin opened her mouth to argue again, but Lee Sung gently placed a hand on her shoulder. "He's right, Hee Jin. We've been at this since morning. We need to rest. Besides, our shift ended three hours ago."

The chief nodded in agreement. "Exactly. You both need to recharge. We'll pick this up first thing tomorrow."

Hee Jin sighed, her shoulders slumping in reluctant acceptance. "Alright, fine," she muttered. "But we start early tomorrow."

The chief smiled, relieved. "That's the spirit. Now, go home and get some rest."

Lee Sung guided Hee Jin out of the station, his arm around her shoulders. "Come on, let's get you home. We'll tackle this with fresh eyes in the morning."

Chief park turned to them with a mischievous smile and said " Hee jin!! Lee Sung!!!"

Lee sung and hee jin turned back and stared at their chief.

"Since you two a lonely souls why don't you two spend the night together??!!clearly LeeSung hasn't had a release in years I bet "

The others inside laughed at what their chief said while Hee Jin and Lee Sung were burning red. But Lee Sung retorted back " I had my release a week ago sir" and Hee Jin turned and stared at Lee Sung, not believing what she just heard from this man.

But didn't say anything and onky thought he was shameless.. too shameless for his own good.

The chief laughed too and aised Hee Jin " hiw about you Hee jin, you had your release yet? Or was it you whom Lee Sung..."

"Good night chief park" Hee Jin said respectively before she left leaving the others cracking while Lee Sung controlled his laughter with his cheeks burning red.
