Sabrina was packing the last suitcase. University was opening in a week and she was kind of excited. If someone scientifically read her brain a week earlier, she was only looking forward to one thing; school. But now one more item was added and she was so invested in it like her whole life would crash if she did nothing about it. Lessin's story kept replaying in her mind when she was wide awake, and when she was sleeping it reappeared as a dream.
When Bella came into the room, Sabrina was holding her phone composing a text message to send to Lessin. The suitcase was wide open and the bed was covered by old and new stuff to be packed. But that didn't seem to be her priority then.
"I thought you'd be done by now.", said Bella as she carefully walked to the bed, trying not to step on the stuff on the floor.
"I'll get back to it in a minute.",
"What are you doing? I'm sure texting can wait.",
"It's kind of important.", she said, but then remembered, "Hey, can I ask you a question?",
"Yeah.", she finally sat.
"You think you and Zabron are endgame?",
"As in?",
"As in this is too serious of a relationship that you can't even dream about breaking up.",
"Well, he and I love each other, but nobody knows the future. One of us might do something bad leading to a break up.",
"Something bad like what?",
"Cheating, lying, abuse, fall out of love due to personal reasons.", she shrugged, "Things like that.",
Sabrina put the phone down. The text could wait. But what the hell was she doing? What was she thinking?
"So, do you and Zabron tell each other everything?", she asked her sister,
"So far, yes. I don't think there's something I don't know about him.",
"And how long has this been going on?",
Bella scoffed, "So many questions Sabrina. What's going on?",
"I don't know. Something just feels too good to be true.",
"What do you mean?",
"I mean he's obviously hiding something from you, something big. And if he hasn't told you yet, it means he doesn't trust you.",
"Or it doesn't matter.",
Sabrina chuckled scoffily, "It does matter, and if he truly loves you, he'll share that part with you.",
Little by little, doubt started to form in Bella's brain, a tiny crack on the foundation she'd been building for 3 years. She and Zabron met 3 years earlier at a pastry school. A love blossomed like cake in the oven and for 3 years she'd been decorating and redecorating it.
"Zabron is a perfect guy.", Bella thought out loud,
"I didn't say he isn't.",
"Stop assuming that he's hiding something from me then! Stop with the mind games.",
"Bella, if I liked mind games I'd be taking a psychology major.",
"I just _",
"That's your task. Go ask him if he's hiding something from you. If he says yes, then he's a keeper. If he says no, you don't matter that much.",
Bella had two choices: To execute, or to ignore.
