Chapter 8 - The Ball

Before leaving the room, Kayser stops her, "I'm thinking of having meals together with the family like this again. Be sure to be not late."

He adds, "If It's not a burden then there's a ball tomorrow that I was hoping you would attend."

Without much to think about, she decides to follow Melina as the screen pops out, "You're saying that even after what happened last time?"

He doesn't answer just as Melina expected, like always.

"It's alright. It was expected of you. I will attend even if it kills me again," she leaves, not wasting a second more.

The frustration builds up within her, which didn't feel like her own. She slides her fingers through her bun, making it come loose as the locks of hair fall down with a soft bounce.

Ruffling it to make the half braids come undone. "Kind of better now," she lets out a soft whisper.

On her way back, she stops by the windows of the hallway. Looking out, "We needed to go out anyway. I hope I don't end up collapsing."

"You won't," Melina says.

"Not reassuring at all, hearing from you."

"I will make sure of it," she tries to sound convincing.

"By granting another so called buff or something?"

No response.

Sici was starting to get used to how Melina behaved, "What did you mean by, even if it kills me again?"

"Nothing important."

Sici received no other responses from her that day as usual and gave up trying to get information from her.

....

The day started in a chaotic manner for Sici today as she was going to attend a ball. The maids consistently annoying her into trying different outfits to choose the perfect one owing to the fact that it has been quite long since she last attended one.

No matter how much they tend to be intimidated by her, they somehow become immune to it when they have to prepare her for a ball or any occasion.

Melina was a beauty, a heart shaped face, long wine red hair with wavy ends to compliment her appearance. So who wouldn't want to dress her up to the full potential?

Even though she had earned the reputation of a villainess because of her stepmother, she was still the rose of high society.

Beauty is rare, letting it go to waste wouldn't be wise.

After being tortured by the maids, Sici was finally free from their grasps. She hurried over to the carriage in case they changed their mind about her appearance.

She wore a baby blue gown with a sweetheart shaped neckline, right hand was sleeveless while the left side had mint green long loose sleeves. The ribbon around the waist along with a extra layer on the gown was also a texture of mint green.

Hair was tied in a half bun, adorned with green pearls. Complimented by her small pearl like baby blue earrings.

She didn't bother checking her last appearance as they kept changing their mind, "I just hope I don't look like a joker in this color combination.."

Being home wasn't helping her much to find clues about the poisoning. Since she was poisoned at a ball, going to a ball might have the clues she was looking for. If only she could revisit the same place Melina was poisoned.

At the ball, she was accompanied by Luke who was dressed in baby blue to match her. They both kept their silence as there were many eyes watching their movements.

Sici whispered to him, "I hope you don't end up ruining this evening."

Luke replies, "Stole the words right out of my mouth."

Sici kept her silence to hold her calm, not wanting to waste any energy on him.

On the other hand, Luke surprisingly knew the ways of the noble quite well, he just behaved like a brat in front of Melina.

Melina already had quite a reputation to her name, Luke didn't want to add fuel to the already burning fire.

Everyone at the ballroom, was captivated by the chemistry of Noirey siblings. The siblings were a eye-candy for the people at the ball since people would only admire them. They didn't dare to hold a conversation with them, as they had a intimidating aura around them.

Sici's attention had shifted along with many people, towards a gorgeous young man. His straight blonde was too shiny and eye-catching.

On a closer observation, his red eyes shone brighter, flattering his beauty.

Though the admiration didn't last long as Sici quickly recognized the person holding such beauty.

It was Eren, who she had to avoid for now. Until she gained more information from the memory, she wouldn't dare to go near him to trigger Melina and the mission.

It was a risk, she wanted to avoid at the moment as time was clocking away. Specially when the probability of the system deducting points was more than 80% now and God knows what panelty they were preparing for her.

She didn't waste another moment and ran from the spot, leaving Luke all alone.

"Hey! What are you doing? What about the dance?" He spoke out.

"I'm feeling sick! Enjoy your evening with the other ladies!" She fled to a less crowded area as the dance began in the ballroom.

He scoffs, "To think she's the one who was warning me before."

She was regretting her choice on not checking the people attending this ball since she had assumed everything would be fine as Melina would guide her but she had forgotten to count the possibility of Eren's attendance.

In fact, she kind of forgot about his existence all together.

After making sure that Eren was nowhere near her, she took a drink from the butler to pass the time as she continued to observe people.

As her lips touch the glass, taking a small sip, Melina decides to interrupt her with a sound to get her attention.

"You just recovered from the poisoning and now you're drinking wine?"

She keeps on adding, "Are you sure that it's wise of you to do so?"

Sici was just about to gulp it down but Melina's words made her pour the wine in the glass from her mouth as smoothly as possible as if nothing ever happened.

Her lips formed a gentle like smile in annoyance, "Should've told me sooner. What a bitch!"

She looks at the wine glass in regret, "There goes my little bit of guilty pleasure."
