Chapter 9 - CHAPTER 9: BACK AWAY 4

Hyung watched his body move without his permission. He'd watched it kill over nine million people just from its march. Seoul was wiped out. The large city had been laid bare. Scarred ashes of people lay the streets. The fire burned intensely as it entered Incheon. Several military tanks rolled out to stop it. They fired hundreds of shells at it but it didn't do any damage. The tanks all exploded from coming into contact with the blaze. Tens of military planes flew over, dropping large ice explosives at it but as the explosives dropped on it, the ice evaporated instantly.

Reports of an incursion had reached the residents of Incheon and panic filled the air. The sights of large tanks and the sounds of explosions didn't help quell the fear. People had already started packing and preparing to flee. Amidst all this, the national anthem of South Korea was heard and the people stopped to listen to their president.

The large man appeared on screens everywhere in Korea. President Jung Yohan walked up and settled down to talk to his people. "Citizens of Korea, I know there has been news and reports about terrorists destroying our beloved country. Seoul and all its over nine million residents have perished and it appears to be on its way to Incheon. I know this news may sound disheartening but the government is dealing with it and it will stop at Incheon. All citizens of Incheon will be led to evacuate and military officials will be there to stop this incursion. Thank you"

Thousands of Korean military forces gathered together to stop the terrorist. With the people evacuating, more soldiers marched into the city. They had seen the destruction that was caused and were prepared to fight to the death. The flaming body walked forward, past the tanks and planes that it had melted. The soldiers manning these vehicles had been reduced to ash. "First Squad! Advance! Neutralize the target!" Hundreds of soldiers rushed forward with guns in their hands, screaming their lungs out. The body stretched its hands at them

"I.....said...get...out.....of...my….way..!"

A massive blast of fire burst from the ground and engulfed the soldiers running at it. The fire was so hot that the soldiers turned to a gaseous state, bone and flesh. The body looked at the helicopters over it and blinked. There was another huge explosion and the machines disappeared like they never existed. It kept walking forward; killing all the soldiers in its path with its mind fixated on its one goal…..destruction.

Incheon was an avalanche of fire. Flames spread heavily to and fro. Most of the people had been evacuated but there were still a few million people left. The body had stepped into the city and with a wave of a hand, half the city was destroyed and over four hundred thousand lives perished. The warm waters vaporised and there was dry land everywhere. The city was laid bare as if humanity hadn't colonised the place yet. It turned to a desert, a desert of fire.

A little kid ran away from the heated places with burns all over his body. He ran with his short legs for his dear life. As he ran, he sighted a soldier looking for the remaining populace. "MISTER!!!!" he shouted at the top of his lungs. The soldier turned his head to see a little boy with blood spilling from his body. "HELP!!" he shouted again, stumbling towards the grown adult. Filled with compassion, the soldier ran to him and picked him from the ground. He looked at the boy and started running with him. "Are you with anyone?" he asked and the child shook his head vigorously. As the soldier ran, the flames crept swiftly on them and they could hear the explosions coming from behind them.

The heat was getting to the soldier and his sweat started boiling on him. His head started getting light but he held on because of the child with him. He looked back and saw the body walking at him. He resolved himself and dropped the boy. The kid looked at him with teary, questioning eyes. He pointed in a direction and said "In that place, you'll find people, okay?" "But what about you?" "I'll be fine. Now run along". The boy ran away again and the soldier turned to face the fiery being. "C'mon, lets....." He couldn't finish his words before he turn to a pile of ash.

The child saw what happened to the soldier and strength left his legs. He looked at the burning body that had stood above him. Tears ran from his eyes. He had faced death for the first time in his life. He fell, shaking vigorously. The body stretched its hand forward to burn the child but it stopped.

Hyung could not take it. He could handle the killing of grown people but not children. He broke out of his chains and tried to take control of his body. The thing that had taken control of his body looked at him for the first time since it killed the old man.

"What...is....wrong...with...you?"

"I won't let you do this anymore"

"Get…..back…..in....your...chains"

"No! I refuse to let you use my body to kill anyone again!"

Hyung charged forward and wrestled with the abstract thing in his body. He was held, shattered and bruised but Hyung still stood. His unfailing resilience couldn't be held back. He looked at the thing with a smiling bloodied mouth. It realised it couldn't hold him back

"You…..want…..your.....body...that….bad?"

"Yes"

"But….its….."

"I don't care if I die. GIVE ME MY GODDAMNED BODY BACK!!!"

"Then….have…..it...your....way"

The flames stopped. The body stopped.

As Hyung took control of his body, memories flooded into his head. The pain he felt during the summoning. The fire that burned his body for hours. The betrayal of the old man. The killings that he performed. Hyung couldn't move. His brain found it difficult to process the information that flooded into his body. Then, he realised

"I'm dead. I no longer exist in this world."

Full realization of his state of life filled him with overwhelming darkness. He couldn't see or talk or breathe. He was nothing.

A drop of water hit the ground. A massive rain fell on Incheon. Each drop of water that fell on him made him know more that he was dead. Had he not existed, then no one would go through this hell. He closed his eyes, finally able to rest
