Chapter 12 - CHAPTER 12: IT'S COMING

Mirai stepped into nothingness. He saw darkness all around him. No, it was darkness. It was emptiness, filled with desolation. It was bare. He walked aimlessly in the black space and heard a voice. It was sounds of sobs. Sounds of cries and anguish. He saw what caused those pained sounds. A young Hyung held his knees and wept. Mirai couldn't interact with it as it had not happened yet. Mirai sat by him. He watched Hyung cry his guts out. Time passed indefinitely. A second was a thousand years and a hundred years a second. It felt like years had passed when Mirai felt a rise in temperature.

Heat burned through the darkness and Mirai saw a dark flame standing in front of him. It was the Fire Devil. It sat next to Hyung and said "Let's go". Hyung stood up and walked hand in hand with the being into the darkness. There was a sudden shifting and Mirai saw what would happen. He had seen the future of this world; Hyung's world.

The mighty thundering stopped abruptly. The beautiful skies were covered with inexplicable darkness. The wind stopped blowing. The light stopped shining. The world had returned to its original state of unhappiness and darkness. The divination had stopped. Mirai had returned from his trance. Hyung watched Mirai slowly regain his senses. "How long has it been?" Mirai asked, not opening his eyes. "It's been four days" Hyung answered. "Get me something to write on" "Sure". Hyung speedily brought a piece of paper and a pen. Passing it to Mirai who had still not opened his eyes, he thought about what Mirai had seen. Mirai disregarded the pen and used his teeth to tear his thumb. He wrote with his blood. Scribbling on the paper, Mirai wrote all he saw on it.

He finished and opened his eyes to look at what he had made. "Four butterflies on a white flower. The mirror of waves that cascade the views" he muttered to himself. The images he drew slightly glowed, responding to its words. Suddenly, they stopped. All sound died down; they were overshadowed by a distinct sound. The sound of breathing. Mirai was breathing heavily. The sound of his breaths got louder and louder. Hyung was concerned and held him by the shoulders to see tears streaming down Mirai's eyes. Hyung had never seen Mirai look so downcast. "Are you okay? We can stop if you know you can't go on" he said with worry in his voice. Mirai's tears intensified further and fell in Hyung's arms, holding him tightly. Sonyeo watched the scene unfold in front of him. It was a foreboding of things to come.

There was a forest. There were large trees in the forest. The forest's ground was covered with leaves. However, no animals could be seen in the forest. If you walked further into the woodlands, you would see a little cabin. A small wooden house. The door opened and a woman could be seen walking out from it. She was followed by a large number of dogs. These were not the regular dogs. They had large jaws and massive fangs. Their eyes were pitch black. Their tails waved furiously and they sat by the woman who took a seat on the porch.

A steaming cup of tea sat on the table in front of her. "I see you Ubica" she said and a man walked out of the wooden wall. He sat on the ground and one of the dogs came to his legs and cuddled up to him. He rubbed its head. "Your hair is as rough as always. When last did you cut it?" she said, watching the river flowing through the forest. "I think a year back" he replied. "What did Marnowac say?" she asked. Ubica shifted and turned his gaze towards her. "He wants us to bring Fenrir" he said with utmost seriousness. "When should we do that?" "In four days. I want you to get ready before then" "Good". Ubica stood and placed his hands on the table. "Why isn't anyone fuckin concerned about this? Do you know what the system would do?" Sonyeon didn't look at him. "Not my problem" she said, dryly.

Ubica was annoyed. She hadn't looked at him since the conversation started. He looked at her and anger filled his veins. "TO HELL WITH THIS!!!!" he shouted and banged the table. The dogs stood at the loud "WHAM!!!" that sounded as he hit the wooden table. The tea shook vigorously to the edge of the table. For the first time since he came, Sonyeon looked at him with such venom and hatred. The air turned cold and Ubica felt the feel of death surround him. He felt death breathe its air on his neck. He saw his grave in front of him. Sonyeon spoke with detest "Had that cup fallen, you would not have seen the system come to life". She picked up the cup and blew over the steam. "Now, get out of my house" she said, looking away from him. Ubica quietly retreated into the walls of the house.

Sonyeon sipped from the cup. She savoured the unique taste of her special blend of tea and wood ash. She took the cup from her mouth. "That tastes amazing" she thought. The skies were as dark as they always had been. She closed her eyes and remembered her meeting with the Fire Devil. She remembered her head being cut off and shuddered in ecstasy over the thought of meeting it again. The feel of the fire against her skin and the pleasure she felt from being killed overwhelmed her. Drool started forming in her mouth and she smiled. Whiffing a smell of the tea, partly mixed with wood ash, her head got a little lighter. "I really, really, really want to see him again" she thought.

Mirai and Hyung sat opposite each other. Mirai's eyes showed signs of prolonged periods of crying. Hyung looked expectantly, waiting for what Mirai had to say. "Tell Sonyeo to leave" Mirai said. Hyung gestured for Sonyeo who came running down. "Sonyeo, we'll need you to leave" Hyung whispered to his ears. "Sure" and he ran off. Mirai sniffled his nose and his face turned stern. The mood changed from sad to serious instantly.

"Hyung, you remember I told you I hate seeing the future right?" he asked. Hyung simply nodded yes. "There are two things about my abilities I need to tell to fully understand". Hyung looked at the man before him. "Firstly, anytime I view the world of someone, be it the past, present or future, I experience all the emotions that the person feels at that moment in time" Hyung thought about the sadness that Mirai showed when he first returned from Hyung's world. He realized that whatever Mirai saw was heart-breaking. "Secondly, the future I see can never change" Mirai said, looking directly into Hyung's eyes. "Even if it's horrible or joyful, nothing you do will prevent it from happening. It has happened, is happening and will happen". Hyung took in these words to his heart and steeled his resolve. "Mirai, what is my future?"

"Hyung, you're going to die"
