Chapter 6 - DREAM

"Well, that's the history of Elaria," Andrew began, a hint of a smile playing on his lips. "And just to be clear, Eldergrove Forest is one of the most dangerous forests in the entire world."

He leaned in slightly, his tone becoming mock-serious. "A single mistake could cost you your life. Luckily, you and I are in the outer area of the forest, or else we'd be dead."

Andrew chuckled, trying to lighten the mood. "Those beasts you saw? They were some of the weakest in the area. None of us possess the strength to take on the real heavyweights around here."

"Seriously, then I guess I'm lucky that I didn't end up deeper," Damian said, trying to shake off the feeling of fear in his mind.

"That proves it. I'm in a new world, with a whole new set of rules and challenges," he thought.

"That said," Damian murmured, his voice tinged with melancholy. "I wonder how she's doing," he thought about Emma, a heavy sigh escaping his lips.

Noticing Damian's fatigue from the night's events, Andrew spoke up, "Alright, everyone, let's get some rest. I'll take the first watch, Damian will take the second, and elara, you'll have the third."

"Alright, I have no complaints about that," Elara said as she stood up, moved closer to the fire, and laid down on the cold ground, intending to sleep.

Seeing this, Damian asked, "Wait a minute, isn't there something we can use to lay our heads on?"

"Do you see anything else we can use?" Elara replied sharply.

"Sorry," Damian said, feeling a bit sad. "We have to make do with what nature provides," Elara added.

Andrew, noticing the exchange, chuckled and said, "Alright, kiddos, it's bedtime! Get some sleep so you're all charged up for your shifts."

Damian found himself on the edge of a jagged cliff, the wind howling around him. Suddenly, he slipped, and as he plummeted, Emma's face appeared, her eyes wide with determination. She reached out, grabbing his hand just in time to save him from the abyss. Relief washed over him, but it was fleeting.

The scene twisted violently, and now Emma's face was cold and distant. He was back on solid ground, but the betrayal was palpable. He saw her standing over him, her expression unreadable. "I had no choice, Damian. You were just a pawn," she said, her voice echoing ominously.

The nightmare intensified. He was surrounded by shadows, Emma's face flickering in and out of view. Her eyes, once filled with warmth, now bore into him with a chilling indifference. The words she spoke haunted him, reverberating through the darkness. "I had no choice… You were just a pawn…"

Damian tried to scream, but his voice was trapped in his throat. The images of Emma's betrayal looped endlessly, each repetition more harrowing than the last. He felt the weight of her words crushing him, the pain of her betrayal suffocating him in his sleep. He couldn't tell if he was dreaming or if this was his new reality, the lines between the two blurring in his mind.

***Reality***

Emmaaaaaa!" Damian shouted, bolting upright from his slumber, drenched in sweat. His heart pounded in his chest, the echoes of his nightmare still vivid in his mind. The darkness of the night surrounded him, but the images of Emma's face and her haunting words lingered, refusing to fade. He took a deep breath, trying to steady himself, but the fear and betrayal he felt in the dream clung to him, making it hard to distinguish reality from the nightmare.

"Hey kiddo, you alright?" Andrew asked with concern, seeing the anguish on Damian's face. "Had a nightmare?"

"It's alright. Don't worry about it," Damian said, his voice barely above a whisper, trying to mask the exhaustion and sadness.

"Hey,"

" I've been struggling with something and could really use your advice."

"How do you cope when someone you love betrays you?" Damian asked, his voice cracking with emotion.

Andrew sighed deeply, sensing the weight of Damian's words. "Although I don't know what's going on, what I do know is that when someone close to us disappoints or hurts us, it can be incredibly challenging. Ultimately, only you can decide how to handle the situation. Whether you choose to forgive or hold onto the hurt, it's important to do what's best for your own peace of mind. Take your time to reflect on what you truly need and remember that your feelings are valid," Andrew said softly.

After that, both of them sat in silence, each lost in their own sorrowful thoughts, the night feeling heavier than before.

"Thanks, Andrew, I needed that," Damian said with a cheerful smile.

"No problem, kiddo," Andrew replied with a grin.

----------------------------------------------------------

The night passed by surprisingly peacefully. Damian, Andrew, and Elara each took their watching shifts without any interference. The forest, usually filled with eerie sounds, was unusually quiet, almost as if it was granting them a reprieve.

As the first light of dawn broke through the dense canopy, the sun rose, casting a warm glow over the forest. The trio gathered their belongings and set off towards the exit of the forest, their spirits lifted by the calm night.

Their journey, however, was not without challenges. As they made their way through the thick underbrush, they encountered several beasts. Each confrontation tested their skills and teamwork, but they faced the dangers head-on, supporting each other through every battle.

Even Damian contributed by warning them of any beast coming through their blind spots

Despite the obstacles, they pressed on, determined to reach their destination. By midday, they finally emerged from the forest, the sight of the open landscape ahead filling them with a sense of accomplishment and relief. They had made it through the night and the forest.

"I guess this is where our journey ends together," Andrew said calmly.

"Why?" Damian protested. "We make a good team, and I'm sure that if we continue to work together like this, we will become even stronger."

"Hold it right there, Damian," Andrew interrupted. "Although what you just said holds some truth, the fact is that each of us each have our own matters to attend to."

"But I don't understand," Damian thought, his heart sinking. "Why is Andrew trying so hard to separate us?"

"Damian," Andrew said softly, his voice tinged with sorrow, "I know you won't be able to understand this, but if we stay with you any longer, trouble awaits us."
