Sunlight crept softly through the sheer curtains, casting a warm glow over the room. My head rested on Jake's chest, his heartbeat steady and soothing beneath my ear. The scent of him, cologne mixed with that distinct 'Jake-ness' lingered faintly on the sheets.
I was floating in that hazy space between sleep and wakefulness when my phone suddenly blared from the nightstand.
"Ugh…" I groaned, clutching the sheets tighter.
Jake stirred beneath me, his voice still husky with sleep. "Ignore it. Whoever it is can wait."
I reached out blindly, grabbed the phone, and pressed it face-down on the table, silencing it. "Done."
Jake chuckled softly, his hand running through my hair. "Good girl."
We both settled back into the warm cocoon of our bed, but the damage was done, we were awake.
