As I watched Laura confidently talk to the men in the lobby, a strange warmth spread through me. I had no right to feel this way after everything I'd put her through, but there it was, love, admiration, and a little disbelief. How was it that after all the mistakes I'd made, she still stood by me, still believed in me? And now, she wasn't just believing, she was actively helping my business. When she turned and smiled at me after sealing the deal, I felt like the luckiest man alive.
"Laura," I said, my voice a little more emotional than I intended as we walked toward the dining area.
"Yes?" she asked, looking at me with that curious, knowing smile.
"You just handed me a massive contract on a platter," I said, shaking my head in amazement. "You didn't have to do that, but you did. Thank you."
