"So what did you say you wanted to tell me?" I finally asked as I lay there with Laura, tangled in each other on the bed, the calm settling in slowly.
My fingers traced gentle lines along her arm, her head resting on my chest, the faint glow from the city lights casting shadows on the walls. For once, it felt like the world outside had taken a backseat, and we could simply be.
"So," Laura murmured, her voice drowsy and content. "If you could go anywhere in the world right now, where would it be?"
"Anywhere?" I smiled, brushing a hand through her hair. "Maybe Greece. A little island somewhere, off the grid."
"Greece, huh? I always pictured you as more of a Paris guy," she teased, glancing up with a playful glint in her eyes. "Business meetings on the Champs-Élysées, suit and tie, that sort of thing."
I laughed. "I could see that, too. But there's something about the idea of disappearing, just finding a beach where no one knows your name."
