Chapter 5 - GRANDPA

Evelyn placed a delicate white lily on her grandfather's grave, its pure petals a poignant reminder of the fleeting nature of life. She then lit a stick of incense, the sweet, woody fragrance of sandalwood wafting up to mingle with the crispy morning air.

Rachel, Evelyn's personal assistant, waited patiently outside the car, parked beneath the shade of a ancient oak tree on the winding cemetery road. The morning sunlight filtered through the leafy branches, casting dappled shadows on the weathered headstones and vibrant floral arrangements that dotted the lush green grass. From her vantage point, she could see Evelyn standing before her grandfather's grave.

"Ah, Evelyn! I was just, uh, getting some fresh air," Henry evelyn's grandfather said, his eyes twinkling with mischief. "And enjoying the view, of course."

Henry turned around, a sheepish grin spreading across his face as he was caught by Evelyn. He was sitting on a bench, his hospital gown a stark white against the vibrant colors of the surrounding flowers.

The river sparkled before him, its surface glinting like a thousand tiny diamonds as the sun's rays danced across the water. Evelyn settled in beside him, her presence a gentle addition to the serene atmosphere.

"I was wondering when you would show up again,You should be out there meeting people, not spending time with an old man on his last breath."

Well, I missed you too, Grandpa." Henry and Evelyn smiled. "So, what did the doctor say? That I'll die tomorrow?"Henry sarcastically asked Evelyn

Evelyn said with a warm smile, "Fortunately, you'll be sticking around longer than expected." They shared a gentle laugh as they gazed out at the sunset, basking in the serene moment together.

"I'm not afraid of death, Evelyn. I've spent my entire life consumed by work, neglecting the beauty that surrounds me like ,look at how beautiful the sky is,even with the cancer taking its toll, I feel more alive than ever. The irony isn't lost on me. My only fear is leaving you behind, alone to navigate the world without me."

"I don't know if it's the old age, but destiny will find you, even if you don't find it. And by the time destiny finds you, you'll realize that you are not alone."

As Evelyn turned to leave the grave, a lone tear rolled down her cheek, and she swiftly wiped it away. The incense, still burning, wafted a gentle breeze, carrying the whispers of memories past. With a resolute step, she walked away from the resting place, leaving the smoke to dance among the flowers.

"As Evelyn approached Rachel, her calm tone belied the lingering emotions in her eyes, "You can head home, I'll drive alone.""

"Rachel nodded sympathetically, recognizing the need for solitude in Evelyn's eyes. She turned and walked away, her footsteps quiet, allowing Evelyn to embrace the stillness and solitude she so desperately craved."
