Chapter 38 - duo mission(2)

Dakota: "Fucking hell, this is disgusting."

He grimaced, looking at the gruesome sight in front of him. The cavern walls were splattered with blood, and the remnants of what seemed to be human bones lay scattered across the floor.

Henry: "Yeah, it is. How could those Djinns do that?"

His voice carried a mix of anger and disbelief as he took in the horrific scene.

Dakota: "Well, looks like we've run into some truly evil Djinns this time."

Henry: "Evil Djinns, huh? Haven't we already met evil Djinns?"

Henry asked, his tone confused as he glanced at Dakota.

Dakota: "I meant more evil than usual. Most of the Djinns we've encountered were pretty chill with us—or at least not outright hostile. Can't say the same for how they treat other humans, though."

Dakota's expression hardened as he kicked aside a broken skull.

Dakota: "Anyway, let's go find these bastards and kill them."

Henry: "Yeah, let's do it."

With determination burning in their eyes, Dakota and Henry began searching the cave for signs of the Djinns. They wandered through twisting tunnels, the eerie glow of the crystals embedded in the walls casting shadows that danced with their every move. However, after nearly an hour and a half of searching, they had yet to find a single clue.

Dakota: "Shit. An hour and a half, and still nothing. This is getting on my nerves."

His voice was tight with frustration, his fists clenched at his sides.

Henry: "Let's just keep looking. We'll find something eventually."

Dakota: "Fine, but if we don't find anything soon, I'm setting this entire cave on fire."

They pressed on, their steps echoing in the stillness of the cavern. Finally, Henry's sharp eyes caught sight of something—a pair of footprints leading deeper into the cave.

Dakota: "Oh, would you look at that. Footprints. Perfect."

Henry: "You think these are from the Djinns?"

Dakota: "Probably. Let's follow them and find out."

Henry: "Alright, lead the way."

Following the trail, they soon found themselves standing before a solid stone wall. The footprints vanished at its base.

Dakota: "A wall? What the hell is this doing here?"

Henry: "Maybe the Djinns created it to block off their hideout."

Dakota: "Makes sense. Either they don't want anyone reaching them, or they're hiding something behind it. Let's find out which it is."

Without hesitation, Dakota summoned his magic. Flames wreathed his fist as he unleashed a powerful blow, shattering a section of the wall with ease.

Dakota: "Alright, let's go in."

Henry: "You couldn't think of a quieter way to do that?"

Dakota: "Nope. You?"

Henry: "Nah. Blowing it up was definitely the best option."

They exchanged a brief laugh before stepping through the opening. Beyond the wall lay a cavern that glittered with a treasure trove of crystals, each more vibrant and valuable-looking than the ones they had seen before.

Dakota: "So that's why they put up the wall—to keep this hoard for themselves."

Henry: "But where are they?"

Dakota: "Probably deeper inside. This cave is huge. By the way, any idea how we're getting out of here after this?"

Henry: "Let's worry about that after we deal with the Djinns."

Dakota: "Fair enough."

They continued deeper into the cave, the crystals casting an eerie light that only heightened the tension. At last, they stumbled upon four Djinns, hard at work mining the crystals.

Dakota: "Hello there, Djinns. Hope you don't mind us intruding."

One of the Djinns—tall, with glowing red eyes and charred, flame-like skin—turned to face them.

Djinn 1: "Humans? What are you doing here?"

Dakota: "Isn't it obvious? We're here to kill you."

Djinn 2: "Hah! That's what every human says when they barge in here. And yet, they all end up dead."

Dakota: "Well, we're not your typical humans. We're much stronger than the fools you've dealt with before."

Djinn 3: "How arrogant."

Djinn 4: "They're not lying. Those two are the strongest students at the academy."

The other Djinns stiffened at his words.

Djinn 1: "Wait… they're the ones who've been killing mid-ranked Djinns like us?"

Dakota: "So, you're mid-ranked, huh? Figures."

Djinn 2: "Surprised?"

Dakota: "Not really. I've faced stronger Djinns before—and won."

Henry: "This'll be my first time fighting two mid-ranked Djinns at once. Should be fun."

Dakota: "Stay sharp, Henry. These four aren't your average mid-ranked Djinns—they're stronger than most."

Djinn 3: "So, you noticed? You're right. We're far above the rest."

Dakota: "Good. This'll be more interesting, then."

The Djinns divided themselves, two squaring off against Dakota and the other two moving toward Henry.

Dakota: "You ready, Henry?"

Henry: "Kind of nervous. But also really excited."

Dakota grinned, his fiery aura flaring around him.

Dakota: "Then let's do this."

The cavern exploded into chaos as the battles began. Dakota charged his opponents, his speed overwhelming them. Their blades clashed, sparks flying with each strike. Dakota weaved between their attacks, his movements almost too fast to follow.

Djinn 1: "Damn it! Just how fast is he?"

Djinn 2: "Way too fast—for a human."

Dakota: "Thanks for the compliment."

He launched a fireball at the second Djinn, who barely dodged in time. The first Djinn tried to sneak up behind him, but Dakota sidestepped and countered with a backflip enhanced by his flame magic. His blade found its mark, stabbing into the Djinn's back.

Djinn 1: "Agh! Damn human!"

The wounded Djinn collapsed to one knee, groaning in pain.

Djinn 1: "Help me out here!"

The second Djinn rushed forward with a flame-boosted punch, forcing Dakota to block. But the first Djinn recovered quickly and managed to stab Dakota in the side.

Dakota: "Ah, fuck!"

He stumbled back, clutching his wound. Blood seeped through his fingers, but his eyes burned with determination.

Dakota: "This isn't looking great. One injured, the other still fine, and now I'm hurt. But am I gonna give up? Hell no."

He straightened, his flames roaring to life around him.

Dakota: "Get ready, Djinns. Because this is about to turn into a slaughter."

Djinn 1: "For you, maybe!"

The Djinns attacked in unison, but Dakota retaliated with a fireball that forced them apart. He closed the gap on the second Djinn, landing a flame-boosted punch that sent him crashing into the wall.

Djinn 2: "Agh! Damn it!"

The first Djinn lunged with a flame-covered fist, but Dakota dodged and countered with a slash that severed the Djinn's hand.

Djinn 1: "Aaaaah! You bastard! I'll kill you!"

Both Djinns roared as their bodies erupted into flames, their forms becoming monstrous and terrifying.

Djinn 1: "With this transformation, you're finished!"

Dakota: "Oh, so we're transforming now? Fine by me."

He activated his own flame transformation, his entire body wreathed in fire.

Dakota: "Let's see who burns brighter."

The fight intensified, the cave trembling under the force of their clashes. Dakota knew he had to end this quickly, or the battle would only get harder.

Dakota: "You're the ones dying today, you bitch-ass Djinns!"
