Chapter 8 - The Inevitable Path

How do you know how small you are? The old man thought as he looked at the pond he wondered to himself. Do these fish know that life is represented by only the place they call home? Their life is determined by birth and their minds are wired only to survive. He thought are we fish knowing only the world is our pond he said to himself. Can we escape the fate that holds us down just like these fish who swim aimlessly not knowing their path is made not knowing that their freedom is only an illusion to what they see is all, they will ever be. That fish who swims knowing they are fated to die were they were born in a cage made by their very own nature born only to live one life in one place and one moment in time. Not seeing the stars or the truths of this universe or understanding why they are what they are. He said to himself one last time are we fish distended to held by the very thing we call freedom. Are we truly free or is it a cage?

The old man had been walking around the park around the pond. He had lived a long life. He was fond of the little things but his mind granted him immense wisdom over the years he had lived he had been all over the world seeing the changes of the world he had seen the bad and good. He was stuck wondering thinking about what freedom is to him and what his fate was. The many years of retirement gave him time to write and understand his emotions. Though he was not a nihilist nor a philosopher.

Just an old man, questioning the world and its many mysteries.

He looked up and saw the sun was coming down it was past five pm. He thought to himself walking down the paved path the old man walked slowly with his cane. Though he was old only his legs were smilier to his age. His mind was strong so were his sight and hearing.

He could hear many things. There are dogs and cats and many more animals. Then there were the children he saw, as he looked at them he reminisced. Thinking about his childhood and all the way to his present age.

Before he could find the answer to his thought. He heard something behind his back.

"Watch out move away." a boy said.

"Oo know," the boy said while hitting his brakes.

The old man turned and looked back and no more than feet from the boy. The old man could see him clearly, the young boy looked no more than ten, his blue eyes and blond hair helped bring out his emotions as the sweat came down from his hair and eyes about to tear up.

"I'm sorry, sir I almost hit you I was just…"

The old man had not said anything not even a slite fear came from the man when heard the words from the boy.

"You did not hurt anyone, young man, take at ease just be safe"

He continued " Looking by the actions and speed you are going it seems that you are racing, am I right? The old man asked with a smile."

"Yes, yes sir, I'm sorry," the blond boy said he felt at ease when the old said that.

"All good young man be careful it seems racing with your friends, where are they?." The old man asked.

"They are taking different paths and are all racing to the same place," the blond boy said quickly trying to end the conversation.

"Well, I don't want to take your time, good luck on your race." the old man said.

"Thank you, sir," the blond boy said already moving the petals.

The old man looked at the end of the bike while he saw the distance, between them getting further away. His mind awoken a thought.

'Different paths leading to the same place is that what fate is?'
