Chapter 9 - Chapter Nine: Secret Door

Alexander

I flexed my wrist for the fifth time. Goddamn this woman was annoying and she's so damn good at it.

And then there's my witty step father. The man doesn't know when to stop and my mother gladly supported him in his decision. The idea of spending three weeks alone with Isabella sounds crazy and I'm not about to lose my sanity because of some break.

Maybe I do need a fucking break.

My phone buzzed angrily on my desk and I muttered a string of curse words.

"What is it?" I snapped, obviously irritated.

"Damn who got you this mad, that person deserves a billion dollars from me." Liam's smug voice seeped into my phone.

"Why are you calling me?" I asked.

A chuckle came from him. "Don't tell me it was Isabella." He said.

"Liam get to the fucking point."

"My my, I should really thank her for the favour. Anyways, Enzo's still pissed at you for interrupting his party."

I rubbed a hand over my face. "So what, he can't argue with me directly and you know why I did that." I said.

Liam sounded serious all of a sudden. "He's trying to poison the minds of our men." He said.

I sat up, his words no doubt catching my attention. "Is he fucking crazy, I'm his damn Boss." I fumed.

"Don't worry I'll take care of it." He said calmly.

"Order a meeting immediately." I said.

Liam sighed. "Alex -" I hung up and pushed my seat backwards, heading to the door.

I walked out of my office and down the stairs but stopped abruptly when a lonely door at other end of the house was wide open.

Fuck.

I changed my direction and walked towards the room angrily.

I moved quickly and stepped into the room, my anger increasing once I saw her pictures.

I need to get out here now.

Isabella's black hair caught my my eye first before I could make out a figure.

She shouldn't be here. I grabbed her wrist just as she was about to touch a familiar black album and her wide eyes instantly turned to me.

"What are you doing here and how the fuck did you get in?" I growled at her. Her face twisted unhappily.

"Alex you're hurting me." She said but I ignored her. I pulled her closer and held the back of her head in a tight grip.

"You're hurting me Alex stop!" She pleaded, struggling in my grip but I didn't let go.

I stared at the woman in front me, those grey piercing eyes that has forever haunted my soul.

The name left my lips before I could stop myself and even if I did I wouldn't regret saying it.

"Who the hell is Arianna?" She asked

I glared at her. "Don't you dare say her name!"

"Don't ever utter her name, you hear me?" I asked.

Isabella struggled against my hold. "For fuck's sake Alex, let me go!" She shouted.

I shoved her backwards, not caring if she fell or not as I looked around. Brown hair, grey eyes, perfect smile.

Goddamn I'm fucking losing it.

"Who is she?" Isabella asked.

The most valuable person in my life.

I didn't answer her question, instead I picked up a familiar picture frame.

Arianna Marie La_ Rosa My dead love and fiancée and the only person that still matters to me.

I turned to Isabella, my anger rising once again.

"How the fuck did you get in here Isabella?" I asked for the second time.

"It was opened and I only came in here to take a call and here I'm seeing some creepy shit." She said.

I closed the distance between us and grabbed her arm. "Stop lying and tell me the truth." I demanded.

Isabella shoved me away. "I should be asking you that question, who is she and why the fuck do we look similar?" She shouted.

I laughed bitterly. "You're not similar, you're just a copy cat, nothing like her." I sneered.

Isabella's eyes shone with confusion. "Why are you doing this?" She asked.

"You shouldn't have been in here little one." I told her.

"Who is she for God's sake, I'm your wife and I deserve to know!" She yelled.

I dug my fingers into her skin, no doubt hurting her. "You are my wife because she's dead. If she was alive I would've never married you." I spat at her.

Isabella's hands dropped by her sides, resignation in her eyes.

Fuck I shouldn't have said that.

Her grey eyes turned glassy, a reminder of six years ago. I let go of her, unsure of how she'd react.

"Little one -" I started.

"I'm done". She said, taking off the diamond ring and wedding band, putting it on my hand.

"Now you can fuck yourself up and be with her in hell." She said and stormed off.

"Isabella!" I yelled and Goddamn I've never fucking yelled. I nearly groaned when I realized she stole my car keys and was heading to the garage.

Fucking hell.

I grabbed another car key and followed after her.

"Isabella!" I shouted again and she ran, fucking ran till she reached the black Ferrari and drove off.

I slam the door shut as the engine roared to life. I stepped on the gas, chasing after her like some crazed man and man did she drove like a mad woman.

Damn she's fast.

The car is took a sudden turn and I nearly missed it but managed to take the turn.

I picked my phone and dialed her number.

"Stop fucking following me!" She firstly screamed into the phone.

I sighed. "Pull over and let's talk." I said.

"We're done remember, I'll just send the divorce papers over to you." She said.

"Pull over little one." I warned. Silence followed for a short while.

"Fuck you." She answered and hung up.

"Fuck!" I hit the steering when she sped up and turned again and this time I missed it. I turned in the next alley, unable to locate her after that surprising turn.

The road got diverted to the highway and still no Isabella.

Thirty minutes later, I was starting to think that she's run away until I got a disturbing call.

"Alex."

I parked and killed the engine. "Jake." I murmured in acknowledgement.

"This won't take time. I've got a woman here whose name is Isabella De Luca. Do you know her?" He asked.

"She's my wife." I said.

How the fuck did she get arrested?

Jake sighed. "You know what to do then." He said and hung up.

I turned on the ignition, switching routes as I drove towards the station, frustrated and angry at the same time.

"Mr. De Luca, I apologize for the inconvenience we've caused you tonight." Jake said monotonously and I gave him a terse nod, Isabella rolling her eyes.

Amusement crossed Jake's features before it disappeared. "Just sign here and that's all." He said, sliding a file towards me.

Isabella flashed me a grin as I signed the papers and we were let go.

"Thank you Jake, I'll have the payment finalized tonight." I said nonchalantly and hauled Isabella out of the station.

"You little brat, you got arrested." I snapped.

She rolled her eyes again. "It was a misdemeanor Alex, beside they wouldn't have caught up with me if I hadn't exhausted the gas." She said.

I grabbed her wrist when she tried to run. "Fuck that, we're going home." I said and dragged her along, ignoring her screams and the strings of curses that kept leaving that damn mouth of hers.

"Let go of me, we're over remember?" She said.

I forced her into the car and strapped her in, putting the wedding rings back on her finger.

"Are you kidnapping me?" She asked with wide eyes when I handcuffed her to the door and shut it.

"It's not a kidnap if you're my wife." I said, pulling out of the station.

"Where did you even get these, they're fucking tight!" She complained.

"I keep them for brats like you." I said.

Isabella's eyes flashed with anger. "I'm not a brat and you're an asshole." She murmured softly.

I was grateful for the silence that followed. "Where's my car?" I asked after a while.

Isabella shrugged. "I don't know." She said and I sighed.

Isabella turned to window. "I'm only going back for Rena." She said quietly.

I swallowed a retort. "I understand." I said.

"Do you?" She bit out.

"Every single chance you get, you use it to hurt me and I don't understand why." She said, sniffing.

I slowed down a bit. "I know I shouldn't have said that to you but Adrianna's a past I didn't want to remember."

"Right, that's why you hid the truth from me. Tell me are there any more secrets I should know about?" She questioned.

I held the steering in a tight grip, my knuckles turning white.

"Forget it I don't want to know." She said.

Isabella turned her back to me, crying silently as we neared the house.

We stopped at the gates for security check and I immediately stopped outside and killed the engine.

I got out of the car and pulled Isabella out, taking off the cuffs and cursing when her wrists turned red.

She wasn't shitting me when she said they were tight.

"Does it hurt?" I asked, rubbing small circles along the bruise.

She shook her head. "I'm fine." She sniffed, her cheeks and nose flushed from crying.

"Look at me." I said, forcing her chin upwards.

I opened my mouth to say the damn words but I couldn't.

This shit is hard.

I tried again and it wasn't working. Goddamn it.

I've never done this type of shit before. Hell I've never said sorry to anyone and now I'm struggling for words because of the woman in front of me.

Isabella looked at me curiously. "What's wrong?" She asked.

"Nothing." I said and led her inside.

"You seemed troubled." She noted and I ground my teeth in response.

"Thank you." She said, taking me by surprise.

I scowled down at her. "Don't thank me for getting you out of jail." I said.

Isabella laughed and that confused me. "I'm thanking you because I haven't touched a wheel in about four years until today." She said.

"And technically I wasn't even behind their bars yet." She added with a small smile

"You-"

"Mommy!" Rena's high pitched squeal interrupted as she came barreling into Isabella like I wasn't even there.

Isabella crouched down with a full grin. Sometimes it worried me how she could be angry at one time and the next she's fucking happy.

That's not normal.

"I think daddy's waiting for something Rena" Isabella said. Rena whirled around, her chin tilted upwards so she could look at me properly.

Rena's grin widens if that's possible. "Daddy!" She screamed, wrapping her tiny arms around my legs. I bent over and picked her up with a less stone cold face, kissing her head.

"Hello princess" I said

Rena frowned adorably. "I'm not a princess daddy, I'm a star!" She insisted.

"Fine little star, how are you?"

She pouted. "Hungry" She replied.

My phone buzzed in my pocket, ruining the moment and I nearly cursed out.

"Come Rena, let's make some cake" Isabella interjected, taking Rena from me while I reached for my phone.

Liam's face popped up on the screen as I swiped right.

"We have a problem." He said without hesitation. I rubbed my temple frustratedly, trouble was the last thing I needed right now. Rena and Isabella are enough for me.

"Not over the phone, I'll meet you at the bar." He said

"Alright." I said and hung up, heading to kitchen.

"Daddy what's wrong?" Rena asked, her huge eyes staring up at me.

"Nothing. Liam and I have somethings to discuss. I'll be late" I said to Isabella.

"Bye daddy and tell uncle Wiam I love him!" Rena squeaked after me.

I paused and turned back with a raised brow.

"What about me?" I asked her.

"What is it?" I sighed.

Rena shrugged nonchalantly. "I don't know." She said. I shared a curious look with Isabella and she looked just as confused as I was.

I crouched down next to my daughter with a confused look.

"What's wrong?" I asked her quietly.

Rena's gray eyes sparkled, reminding of the feisty woman few feet from us.

"So you love me daddy?" She asked.

I manage to hide my shock as I stroked her head. "Of course I do pumpkin, what's wrong?" I asked.

Rena shook her head adorably with a cute pout. "And you give me a kiss every time too right?" She asked. I chuckled and kiss her head, letting her know that I do it every time.

"I just gave you proof of that one pumpkin." I said

"Why haven't you given my mommy a kiss too?" She asked and I nearly fell forwards.

"So this is about your mom and not you?" I ask to clarify and she nodded almost immediately. I steal a glance at the woman in question, genuine curiosity and confusion marred her features.

"So you want me to give your mom a kiss?" I asked with huge amusement.

Rena squealed quietly. "Yeah." She said. I shake my head and stand up fully while holding Rena's head and guiding her towards Isabella.

"I-is everything alright?" Isabella asked, her eyes glancing between Rena and I.

Rena grinned up at me. "Everything's fine. I'll see you tomorrow morning pumpkin" I said and kissed both Rena and Isabella on the head, surprising the latter and Rena giggling.

"Bye?" I heard her say as more of a question than a statement.

I stifle a laughter because I caught her by surprise and besides, that wasn't a proper kiss but I can't blind my daughter even though it was her request.

I pull out of the garage and hit the road immediately, heading to the spot Liam and I have usually hang out

I toss the valet my keys as I enter the building but the first thing that throws me off was a fucking ambush from behind.

Familiar boots kick me in the side as I'm being held in a chokehold.

"Elaina" I force out when a cool steel kissed my skin.

"Um I think that's enough play guys." Liam said carefully and with the no response from Elaina, she's probably with that damn mask of hers.

She's way too strong and I'm not a fan of hitting women either.

Her arm comes loose around my neck and I catch myself before I fall on my ass and adjust my slacks with a scowl.

"You have some nerve showing up here." I tell her as I sit across Liam as the bartender pours me a drink.

"You should be worried about yours and not mine." She finally speaks without taking off the black mask

I looked at Liam and Elaina. "What are you not telling me?" I demanded.

Elaina's eyes darkened dangerously. "Dark watch has gone rogue." She announced.

Fuck me. Just the news I was fucking expecting.
