Chapter 13 - Chapter Thirteen: Date Night

Isabella

I smiled to myself as I stared at my reflection in the mirror.

How Alex picked this dress is still a mystery to me but I love it regardless.

It's a flower print dress with thing straps at the shoulders with a low cut in front.

The only problem I had was my broken arm that's currently in an arm sling that doesn't suit the dress.

Maybe this was a wrong time.

Grayson was taking the girls and Rena to the movies so I had no reason to worry. Well except the arm sling. Damn it. I can't stop thinking of it.

A firm hand on my side jerked me out of my thoughts. "You look beautiful little one." He murmured against my skin.

"The arm sling doesn't go with it. Maybe I should just change." I suggested.

"No it's fine this way." He said. I sighed and turned to face him. He wasn't wearing a jacket as usual, just a normal shirt with three buttons undone and bit of ink showing off and pants.

"You haven't told me where we're going." I said as he led me out of the room and down the stairs.

"Its a surprise." He said vaguely. I dropped the question as we drove out of the house and hit the main road.

We stopped in front of a building, taking the underground route to the parking lot.

"Where is this place?" I asked him once we were in the elevator.

"Calm down, little one " He drawled. The elevator stopped with a chime and we walked out, Alex holding me close even though no one else was present.

"What is this a secret resturant?" I asked him. I got my answer when a waiter ushered us in and showed us to a table while another served us champagne.

"So you brought me on a date, to a secret resturant?" I asked, hiding my smile.

"Well, it's not really a resturant. My grandfather bulit this place for the Famiglia meetings but I decided to not let this beautiful place go to waste." He said

I raised a brow. "You don't use it for your meetings?" I asked.

"Sometimes things don't go as planned." He said shortly, meaning he's not going to explain further.

A waiter interrupted us to take our orders and returned shortly with our food.

"How did things go with Liam?" I asked, sipping a part of the champagne. After Alex returned that night, I forgot to ask about liam and why he had to leave urgently.

"Fine." He said. Here we go again,he's acting distant and aloof all over again.

I shrugged. "It's alright if you don't want to tell me about it." I said. Alex's hand coveredine suddenly, my heart racing faster than normal as my skin tingled.

He did not just do that.

"It's better this way." He said and I know he's right. It's better if I don't know anything about Alex's work. I moved my hand backwards, eager to get rid of his touch.

"Are you ready to tell me what really happened to your arm?" He asked.

Way to go Alex.

I sighed and stopped eating. "I told you I fell." I said. Alex didn't look convinced one fucking bit.

"All I want is the truth, Isabella." He said and I swear I almost came clean with him.

"Alex, we're not having this conversation right now." I said with a slight frown.

He didn't seem affected. "This is not over. " He said. We finished our meal in a less happy mood and I could feel the tension starting to build.

Alex and I stared at each other in silence. If this is how he wants me to tell the truth, he has no idea what's going on right now.

"Why can't you let this go?" I asked frustratedly. God I feel like tearing my hair out, which means he's winning.

"Do you have any idea why the doctor asked me to stay back?" He asked calmly.

I don't like where this is going at all.

I swallowed hard. "Why?" I asked.

"She thought I normally hit you. The fucking doctor thought I had something to do with it because you had a severe fracture so fucking tell me what happened." He rumbled. He's angry, I can hear it but I don't want to tell the truth because 8I can't be responsible for the fall out of three brothers.

I kept my mouth shut instead of answering and that only infuriated him the more.

"I checked the CCtV footage." Alex said. My head snapped up to meet his gaze and damn me he wasn't lying and boy was he not happy.

"I saw what Javier and Marco did to you." He suddenly said and I swear I almost snapped my head in half.

It was suddenly hot. "Alex you shouldn't have." I whispered.

He smiled humorlessly. "I'm glad I did though."

I sighed. "Look whatever you saw, they didn't mean it." I said.

"What I don't understand is why you're still trying to save them when they were actually wrong." Alex said.

"I don't want to cause a fight between all of you. It's fine, I promise." I said. His dark blue eyes instantly latched onto my arm.

"Your arm doesn't look fine." He said with disdain evident in his voice.

I looked away. "I'm fine. Can we not talk about this right now, this is supposed to be fun." I said.

"Alright." He said and thankfully he dropped the topic but the air was thick with tension.

I unintentionally slammed my fork down, glaring at Alex.

"Would you stop staring at my arm like you want to rip it off?" I asked him. Alex gulped down the rest of his wine, a sign he was still pissed which made led to ask a question.

"What did you do to Javier and Marco?"

"Nothing." He said.

"I believe you." Even though I didn't.

Alex's hand found mine once again. "They're fine." He said as some sort of reassurance.

"Okay." I said.

Why does he keep doing that? Alex called for the cheque and settled the bill and soon enough we were back outside in the chilly atmosphere.

"That was fun." I sighed softly.

"Don't lie, it was a total wreck." Alex huffed.

I smiled wistfully. "It was, but I had fun." I said. We reached the parking lot a short while after, but something was wrong.

"The car's....gone." I said. Alex seemed to have noticed it because now he was telling at someone on the phone a few metres away.

And then the showers started. It's October for God's sake.

"I can't get any signal, it's jammed here." Alex said, tucking his phone back into his pocket.

"Let's go then." I said, about to go under the rain when Alex yanked me backwards.

"Are you nuts, it's freaking cold out there and I'm not letting you out there." He said with finality in his voice.

"You should be more concerned for yourself and not me. I'm fine or are you scared of a little rain, Alexander De Luca?" I teased, trying to bait him.

"Don't." He warned.

I walked towards the edge. "I guess we'll never know." I smirked. Alex tried to reach for me but I stepped out, smiling as it poured down on me.

"So you are scared of a little rain." I said, my smile growing bigger by the minute as he stood under the shade.

I stepped backwards as Alex emerged from the shade, invading my space.

"How would you prefer to get home. On foot or over my shoulder?" He asked with a dark smile.

Ah shit.
