Chapter 1 - Betrayal

FIONA

Humming a song softly under my breath, I inserted the key in the keyhole of Jeremy's apartment. I smiled dreamily as I pushed it open, he has been out of town for a week now and since he was returning tonight, the goal was to surprise him!

With my textbooks from school placed on one arm and the other filled with groceries, I walked backwards into the house. I stopped midway trying to make sense of the discarded clothes on the floor.

I dropped everything I was holding as a familiar voice let out a soft moan. Wait? Did someone break into my mate's house? But only a few people had access to his apartment and I was one of them.

Hurrying towards the bedroom, I pushed open the door, in time to see two very familiar people sprang apart. They must have been so into what they were doing that they didn't hear me come in.

I froze, my hand on the door handle not quite believing the scene in front of me. Laying there on the bed was my mate, who was supposed to be out of town and beside him was one my fucking best friends!

"What?" I let out as I finally recovered from the shock, I had no idea of what to say or do because never in a million years could I have seen this coming!

"Babe..." Jeremy started, jumping out of the bed to quickly put on his pants. "I can explain, give me a chance." He yelled, coming after me as I walked away.

"Explain? What explanation are you possibly going to give me for cheating on me with my best friend!" I snarled, my fingers crawling into a fist. I could take anything, including his cheating but if he tries opening his mouth to give me any lame excuse then I'd lose it.

"This isn't cheating." He blurted out just when I thought he would have nothing to say. "I love you not her, so how can this possibly be cheating? Plus it's not my fault, you wanted to until our wedding night." He added.

Before I could control it, my fist slammed hard into his face. "So this is my fault? You 're nothing but a pig who lacks self-control! You promised me you would wait until I was ready..." My gaze swung to my best friend, the sting of betrayal cutting deeply into my heart.

I couldn't decide which one was more hurtful, the fact that he cheated on me or the fact that my best friend betrayed me. "How long has this been going on?" I asked her, looking her in the eye.

"Long enough." She muttered, barely audible but I heard her loud and clear.

"Shut up!" He hissed at her, reaching for me but I slapped his hands away. "Please Fiona, give me the chance to tell you how sorry I am."

"Oh...sweetheart, you've had plenty of chances and now this is my turn. I, Fiona Moonshine, reject Jeremy as my mate!" I growled, without sparing either of them a glance and with the pain tearing at my inside, I raced outside towards my car.

Once I was a few blocks away from his apartment, I finally collapsed into my emotions. Parking the car by the roadside, I let my head fall on the steering wheel as I cried out my heart.

How could he do this to me? He told me he understood, that he would wait... Only to spend the entire time cheating on me not just with anyone but one of my best friends! I thought back on all the times I had gushed to her about Jeremy, how respectful and how he was such a gentleman.

Not knowing she was laughing at my back thinking what a fool. Or the fact that I was being a fool must have come up in one of their bedroom conversations made me sick. I get out of the car to throw up by the roadside.

By the time I returned to the car, my phone was ringing. Wiping the tears from my face, I picked up the phone when my other friend's name appeared on the screen. I never ignored people no matter what I was going through, hence I hate people ignoring me.

"So... Tell me, how's the surprise coming up?" She asked, referring to the surprise I had told her I was preparing as a welcome back for Jeremy.

I looked up, resisting the urge to burst into another round of tears. "Oh... I was surprised alright. But there will be no mention of Jeremy ever again! I rejected him." I informed her and there was a long stretch of silence.

I gave her the time she needed to process what I just told her. Instead, she started laughing. "Fiona, you're so dramatic, what did he do now? Did he cancel? Is that why you emotionally reject him?" I didn't blame her for laughing.

It was something I do each time he disappoints me which was a lot and there was no way she could believe or anyone could that Jeremy would cheat on me. "I found him in bed with someone else." I didn't know how I was going to tell her about who he had cheated on me with.

"My goddess! You're serious!" I could imagine her sitting up from her bed as she said this. "Jeremy cheated on you? I'm sorry, this is a lot to process."

The noises in the background indicate that she was moving around. "Yes... It hurts." I admitted to her. I had acted unaffected by everything in their presence because I didn't want them to get the satisfaction of seeing me hurt.

"I know sweetie, and I'm so sorry you had to experience this. Leave that cheating ass bastard to me!" She growled angrily.

"Please no." I chuckled despite my tears. "Don't hurt him, it will achieve nothing and besides I already punched him." I took a deep breath. "The girl he cheated on me with is Willow." At my declaration, there was another huge pause between us.

"What?!" She shouted this time around. "Willow? Our Willow?" She asked again as if to be sure.

I nodded and then realised she couldn't see me. "I'm still processing the whole thing—" I stopped, hearing a tap on my window. I turned around, a little shocked to see Milena standing outside.

She gestured for me to move as I rolled down the window. I moved to the passenger's seat while she settled on the driver's side and then started the car. "We both need to process this with vodka, I know a place." She pulled into the highway.

"How did you get here so fast?" I asked.

"Your location was active on Snapchat so I traced you here. And one more thing, you can't object to wherever I'm taking you." She answered.

I only found out about fifteen minutes later that I should have protested a lot when she had said that. I found myself walking into a club with her and by then it was too late to start protesting.

We each settled on a high stool in front of the bartender, who immediately came forward to take our orders. Milena told him we wanted shots and again I didn't protest, even though it was just for tonight I wanted to forget everything!

I took the first couple of shot, and as I reached for another Milena stopped me. "What?"

"You're taking them too fast, will you at least slow down? I don't want you drinking yourself to death." She cautioned but was soon distracted by her phone. "I'll be right back, I have to take this." She went away but I could already tell who was calling her.

Only one person had the ability to make her smile like that. Her mate, which reminded me of mine. Feeling more sadder than I wanted to, I grabbed a couple of other shots, gulping them down in one take.

"You may want to go easy on the drinks." A deep smoothing voice whispered in my left ear, causing me to visibly jump.

He pulled out another stool by my left, taking a seat there while signalling to the bartender. I watched him under the club neo light, there was something strangely familiar about this man but I couldn't recall anything.

As if sensing me watching him, he glanced over at me, making me blush. Why does he have this much effect on me? I was supposed to be heartbroken and drinking away my problem not here blushing over some older man's attention.

Maybe this is what alcohol does to you when you've had too much of it. I cleared my throat, looking around for any sign of Milena.

"Trouble in paradise?" That damn voice! I thought when he spoke again.

"How would you know? Can't a girl just come to a bar and drink?" I retorted, hating the way he guessed my mood, do I look that sad and pathetic?

"All by herself?" He chuckled, as if finding my anger adorable. "I'm all in for revenge, if you want."

My interest piqued at the offer, perhaps it was the alcohol making all the decisions for me but tonight, I wanted to make one decision, one bad one that's going to send my ex mate into a fit of rage!
