Gwen was picking at her food, her irritation still lingering from her encounter with Thorndyke. Even now, she could feel his gaze on her, his presence somehow dominating the room even though he wasn't even sitting at their table.
Her friends, meanwhile, seemed blissfully unaffected by the tension.
"Trouble in paradise?" Rose teased, knowing very well that his words were bound to rile Gwen up.
Gwen looked up, shooting a glare at her.
"Very funny, Rose," she grumbled, her irritation obvious in her voice.
Lance laughed, "Looks like someone's had a tough day with Thorndyke again."
Gwen's irritation grew, and she bristled.
"Shut it," she snapped, her voice sharp.
"Touchy, touchy," Lance chuckled, clearly enjoying teasing her.
Gwen's irritation boiled over, but she bit back her retort. She knew they were just poking fun at her, but it didn't make the situation any better.
