Thorndyke lead her to their usual meeting spot; the Junior Wing Bridge.
Silence filled the air between them, neither of them saying anything. Thorndyke leaned on the railing, his gaze fixed on her as he clenched his jaw.
Gwen was the first to break the silence, her voice was hesitant, "Why did you do that?"
Thorndyke's piercing black eyes flickered towards her, his gaze unreadable. He paused for a few moments, his jaw clenching and unclenching.
"Because I couldn't just stand by and let them accuse you of something you didn't do," he replied in a deep, gravelly tone.
"Why?" she looked at him in confusion.
He turned to face her fully, "What, did you expect me to sit there and let them pin the disappearance on you?"
His tone was slightly accusatory, though his gaze held a hint of concern for her.
