Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: Surface

I absolutely have no idea how I would stop the invasion, I'm against tens of thousands of my kind most of which are older and stronger than me. I can't do it alone.

Hmnnn... If I could somehow warn the surface of the invasion and make them deal with it before it becomes an actual problem. That way the damage caused by the rats would be significantly minimise. But the surface races will still see rats as a problem.

Honestly I can't think of a way to do it. Not as I am now, I should still have a few months. In that time I need to level up and evolve, an increase in strength and capabilities will go a long way. I have enough evo points to grow so I'll do that now and think about what I will do later.

I am completely betraying the rat kind here. So I'm not going back there to evolve, the chicken coop is also out of question. I'll have to climb some trees again.

So I did, much like before I didn't slack on security and put a blanket of leaves atop my body. A nice and comfortable camouflage, may or may not work but it's better than nothing. I check the perimeter once more to make sure there was no one watching, nothing I could see or smell here. Satisfied I enter my evolution.

[Name: Adrian Walts]

[Level: 2]

[Species: Rat rat]

[Skills: Bite(Level 1)]

[Ability: Flesh Stack(Level: 1))

[Partial Evolution: Monstrous muscles +1, Growth +4, Efficient stomach +1, Carving claws +3, Agile prehensile tail +2, Dextrouss limbs +1]

[Health: 7/7]

[Mana: 3/3]

[Strength: 7]

[Speed: 6]

[Durability: 2]

[Intellect: 15]

[Will: 6]

[Skill point: 1]

[Ability point: 1]

[Evolution point: 2]

[Stat point: 0]

I fell much stronger and bigger when I woke up. I quickly looked at the increase in stats and was satisfied, an eight points increase in overall stats. Funny how it's harder to level up then evolve, yet a single sub-evolution growth give nearly three times the stats increase. Also the adolescent tag disappeared, did I complete the life stage of a rat? There are other rat much larger than me still, so growth should still be a thing, can't really check since I don't have enough points for it to appear on the menu. Seriously hiding the evolution option until you have the points. That would be like shopping online but only the things you could afford are listed. If I know what could be bought I would be able to plan for it and save some point for the ones I liked. Stupid system.

Will I spend my skill and ability points now, or later? It was a big question. I don't know what the max level was, unlike evo points the skill and ability points are locked behind leveling up. I get only a few choices and if the ones that don't show up aren't any use, it will be making life alot harder. Who knows like the evolution maybe the better choices reveal themselves when you have more points to spend.

That said I still want more skill.

[Dash], [Dig], [Scratch], [Stealth], [Squeak], [Climb], [Jump], [Slash], [Whip], [Headbutt], [Pounce], [Strangle]

Oh more showed up! Slash seems to be from my claws, while whip is from my tail. Looks like evolution can influence your skill.

I'll still take jump, because I need an escape skill. I've been too close to death in this pass week, dash would also be good but between a straight dash and a three dimensional movement, the one I prefer was quite obvious.

[Skill: Bite(Level 1), Jump(Level 1)]

Ho, ho, things are looking good. I haven't used my ability yet and I know exactly how I want to use it. Looking forward to it.

Now then, do I continue terrorizing the farm, grind some levels and evolutions and sweep the rats. That would be a very viable option. The farmers loses a few chickens in exchange for me stopping the rat invasion. Seems fair to me, but these particular farmers are quiet poor so I'll be causing trouble somewhere else.

Aside from my larger than average claws I still looked like a normal adult rat so I should be able to pass of as one without arousing much suspicion. Most rats just goes for growth after all. Thinking back the cat also didn't have any wierd evolution, same with the chicken. They are exactly like how a normal chicken and cat should be.

As for me, I looked down at my claws. These are definitely not normal, my tail too was alot thicker than other rats my size should have. Thankfully it shouldn't be a problem, I'm still the size of the a normal rat, which should make it very difficult for anyone to tell without having a clear look at me.

Convinced no one would be able to tell I'm different, I journey fourth on the surface. I didn't want to use the rat tunnels, don't know if the rats could smell my betrayal or not but if something comes up and I am to be caught up in it, there will be noone left to stop the invasion.

So I avoid the rats completely. I understand the kind of danger a rat is exposed to when travelling out in the open, I know the risk I'm taking, yet it was something I must do. I needed to see what the surface world was like, after all despite my many attempts I still don't know what technological era this world was in. I'm excited to learn all about the world, what forms of transport are they using, what weapons and tools they have come up with. Different cultures on Earth came up with different solutions to the same problem, I can't wait to see what sort of unique culture this world had produce.

So I started my march to the unknown. Braving the horrors of the surface with a smile.
