Chapter 1 - Can't Be Luna

Chapter One:

Seraphina's POV

Should a girl be happy that her betrothed would be coming to her workplace to see her? Yes. Should she care enough to tell all her co-workers? Yes. Should she be anticipating his arrival? Yes.

Yet, I was at the bathroom preparing a speech under a pensive mood, a speech of appreciation for my own fiancé coming to see me for the first time in our three year betrothal.

Perhaps, I was being selfish as the Luna Queen usually said. After all, my betrothed was none other than the Alpha Sebastian, the Alpha of our Theroes pack, second largest pack in North America.

It didn't matter that he didn't see me or call me or check up on me in any way possible. He was busy, after all. He had left for the Association of Alphas which was a very honourable meeting, I should only be proud of him.

A sigh left me as I failed to gaslight myself into thinking that. I rewashed my face and dried it before retouching my makeup. I kept it light as I wasn't really good at it but the intel was that the Alpha really liked girls with full makeup. I'd learn when the time came.

I ran my hands through my dark straight hair and made sure it wasn't rough at any part. My looks were quite average and I had a rough skin but it did not affect my confidence. I would be the Luna soon after all.

I braced myself for his presence and walked out of the bathroom proudly. He should've already arrived and would be waiting at my Boss's office. As I expected, one of my co-workers rushed to me and informed me of my attention needed at the office.

As I turned to leave, I couldn't help but notice her grin as she walked away. I paused and looked at her even if she couldn't see me. What was she grinning about? I may be a wolfless girl with a unique condition but I wasn't totally weak and when I'd get married to the Alpha, they'd change how they thought of me.

I adjusted my skirt and breathed out, I forced a smile on my face but made sure it relaxed just as I had been practicing. Then, I knocked on the door and got in when I heard a response.

My steps slowed when I noticed there was someone else with us. The best employee of last year, Rachael Tucker. Her long blonde hair fell effortlessly across her shoulders and she had her signature smile on her face. I smiled back, staring long at her blue eyes that I secretly envied.

Then, my eyes locked with his and a knot tied in my stomach. His red eyes struck me in the chest instantly and I felt like lowering my eyes, but I kept the contact. If I'd be his Luna someday, I couldn't be scared of him.

When he looked away, I did too, and a small smile came to my lips as it felt like I won something. He was as handsome as I remembered, with darkened eyes and a chiselled jawline, not like I expected a member of the Ruel Bloodline to be anything less than breath-taking.

"I'm glad you arrived safely from your trip." I said since he probably travelled all the way from Asia for this, to see me. My smile was still on my lips.

He hummed, and his eyes shifted to their original sea blue colour. He said nothing else.

My smile reduced and I looked at his direction but he flipped through the calendar at the Boss's table. Rachael was still in the office and my Boss had a tensed expression on his face.

I understood that the Alpha and I hadn't met for long but we grew up in the same pack and went to the same high school for a while, so I wouldn't be a complete stranger. Also, would he find it hard to speak to the girl he handpicked as his betrothed?

"Well, so..." I tried to make him say something.

His body moved to my direction but he didn't look at me. "I heard that you don't have a wolf, Seraphina."

My smile threatened to return to my face as my name rolled out of his lips, till I soaked in what he had said. "Yes." I said confidently. Everybody knew that.

"I did not know." He deadpanned.

My brows knitted together. He didn't? He was literally the Alpha of my pack and he did not know that there was a wolfless girl in his pack, and that girl was his betrothed? I was very sure he must be joking. "Well, I..."

"I don't think a wolfless girl could be the Luna of the pack." He finally dropped the calendar that had been bugging me. He still didn't meet my gaze.

My hands slowly dropped to my sides as many thoughts filtered into my head. Wolfless girl? That's what I was but I didn't really want him calling me that. And I couldn't be the Luna? I was already on my way to that position.

I raised my head, not wanting to show weakness. An Alpha and Luna were almost equal and I've been preparing myself for that position for a long time. I would do anything to support him and prove to my pack that I could be useful.

"What do you mean?" My voice didn't sound as strong as I wanted. "Why... Why can't I be your Luna?"

Rachael's smile fell and my eyes went to her. "I am Rachael Chen, a Delta from Liunel's Pack. Nice to meet you."

Was this the time for an introduction? She should know that we've been co-workers for almost two years already, but I nodded in response. "Did you arrive with him? What does he mean by—"

"Your Alpha thinks that a wolfless girl can't be the Luna." Rachael replied without missing a beat.

My heartbeat quickened as anger rose to from my stomach at being called a wolfless girl again. Can't be a Luna? I snapped my head to Alpha Sebastian and for the love of the Goddess, could he drop the damn calendar and look at me?

"Will your new secretary be speaking for you?" I said that with a nonchalant tone but I began to care less. I kept repeating in my head that an Alpha and Luna were almost equal. I should speak to him clearly so we'd both reach a conclusion.

I loved him, even if we've had few interactions. Being handpicked by him was such an important detail in my life and made me feel like more than an orphaned wolfless girl.

Rachael replied again. "I am not his secretary..." She looked at his direction. "My Alpha, Alpha Shawn Draven, had suggested more suitable options stay around Alpha Sebastian till he makes a decision."

Suitable options? Decision? My fists clenched. "What decision—"

Alpha Sebastian left his seat suddenly and I stepped back on impulse. His gaze finally landed on me and a suppressed whimper left me. His blue eyes slowly darkened to red.

"Seraphina Jones. I, Sebastian Renaud Theroes, hereby break the betrothal engagement I made with you on 20th of the December, 2021." Alpha Sebastian said flatly, not even bothering to spare me a glance. "And my reason being...."
