Chapter 18 - Traitor

Chapter Eighteen: Traitor

Percy's POV

"The guy with the scar of his neck and neck tats." I said to the boss. "Where is he?"

The Boss looked ahead. "We found him injured. I think he encountered the assassin first and got lost at the back. My boy had tried to catch her and she broke his leg."

Very suspicious. "What injury did he get exactly?"

"I think a shoulder dislocation, but it's nothing very serious for someone in our line of work." The boss shrugged.

So this guy met the assassin first and only got a shoulder dislocation, while a guy that tried to hold her got his leg broken? For fuck's sake, he could've faked that injury.

That assassin killed two of our men, Liam said they were beginners though, but she couldn't just kill one guard that she met first? "Take me to this guy, please. He'd know what she looks like, right?"

I tried to act like I didn't know. The boss took us to the back of that section. There was a younger man groaning in pain while his leg was being bandaged, while that guy sat on a seat, holding his bandaged arm with a straight face.

Who was he trying to deceive? He had dislocated his own arm after checking that Luther was alive and wanted to act like a victim.

"Are you okay?" I came closer.

He looked surprised to see us but nodded, squeezing his face a bit. I sat besides him. "Do you know what she looks like? I heard that you were attacked first."

He glanced at the Boss and nodded. "Yes sir. I didn't get a clear look at the assassin but it was obviously a girl with black hair. That's all I know."

I looked at his wounds. "Luther said you went to check up on him." I met his gaze. "Was it after she broke your arm or before that? You should've gone for medical treatment immediately she broke your arm and not go checking on Luther, you know."

The Boss got closer. "You went to speak to the CEO?"

The man's eyes didn't leave mine and even if he tried to keep it still, I saw his iris trembling. So I got my answer. I leaned back. "So you were the one who helped the assassin."

The three commanders sprung into action the moment he made for the door. They tackled him down and pinned his face to the ground. Surprisingly, that his broken arm seemed to have been fixed back.

"Fucking traitor." I stepped on him. "Did they hold something important to you?" I asked because of the picture of the child he had looked at.

He stared at me with resolute and anger. There was no fear in those eyes so he must not plan to speak, if he had looked worried, then I'd guess he was blackmailed into it.

"I can't believe you!" the Boss shouted at him. "Were you not trying to help your younger sister pay her bills? What about your little nephew, huh! This was a good job and I said I'd increase your cut!"

So the baby was actually his nephew? He still had that look in his eyes so it was quite clear he didn't regret his actions. I gestured for the commanders to drag him out.

I turned to the uniformed thugs. It was good that I came here today and even better that Seraphina had brought this to my attention.

"You guys should stay more grounded, and someone should switch on the security facilities please."

The Boss looked up and gasped, then he snapped his head at the traitor. "I thought I told you to switch them on ages ago! You really wanted to get us all killed!"

I dialled a police line and gave the phone to one of the commanders to make a report. This man really wanted what would come to him. The Boss calmed down and I addressed them on how careful they'd be from now on.

They had done their job so I couldn't sack them. Also, one of them took damage so it'd be too cruel. "However, I'd add some of my men here so that they'd not escape."

The boss nodded firmly.

I left the place, and texted Second to stay with Luther till he decides to return home. Second texted back minutes later that he had been distracted with the movie and would do as I said.

It made me chuckle. Luther had got himself a movie bud.

We reached home and I got told that my mother needed to see me. I could already guess what she wanted to ask.

I had made moves towards the base and Xexi a lot recently and she'd want to know that everything was okay.

I knocked on the large door and waited. I heard a soft chuckle and frowned a bit. The little miss was there? My mother was probably not trying to speak about the base if the little miss was there. She wouldn't want to scare her.

"Come in, Percy." She permitted.

I ran my hand through my hair and entered with a sigh. Hopefully, she wouldn't do anything that'd make me and the little miss uncomfortable. She smiled warmly at me as I came in but I wasn't in the mood to smile back.

"Hey, ladies. For anyone wondering, all is well at Xexi now." I said and sat besides my mother.

The little miss kept her eyes outside the window, not reacting to my presence. That was good, for now, even if I didn't know how to fare to being ignored.

I looked away from her and to my mother. "Third said that you had something to say to me."

She nodded, taking a cup of tea to her lips. She dropped it back after a quick sip. "You didn't introduce the new guest to me yourself. Stephanie's own daughter, and you took to long to get us to know each other?" she raised a brow.

Edward had made them meet. She only needed me to introduce her specially. "I thought Edward did that." I looked away. "I had sent him. Also, there were important things happening. Did she come to you whining about it?"

The little miss' head snapped to me and I smirked. So much for trying to ignore me.

"Why would I whine about you? Miss Lennon, you don't have to worry about me? I'm used to all Percy's harsh treatments."

My eyes widened at that statement. Harsh what? Now my mother would think I had bullied her. I could already feel her burning stare and wouldn't dare look at her.

"H-Harsh treatment? You... you're really something. When did that happen, huh?" I must've been wrong about her being good company.

She looked away again and kept on enjoying her tea. My mother cleared her throat and I gulped down a lump of saliva. This little miss might just be the death of me.
