Chapter 16 - Yells

Chapter Sixteen: Yells

Seraphina's POV

After taking a deep breath, I went into the house. I needed to make sure the boxes were kept in a way that I could check the out easily later.

I caught scent of Percy as I got close.

I remembered the article and felt different towards him. He was probably a defensive person and that's why he didn't trust a stranger that barged into his place during a snowstorm. His family did go through a lot back then.

The door I wanted to use slammed open and nearly hit me. Percy marched in, brushing past me and kept going. A frown crept to myself and I turned to him.

"Did you lose your eyes, old man?"

Maybe I was wrong and he's just a spoilt brat!

He paced around the room and I saw he was listening to someone on the phone and looked really worried.

Second came in with a phone book and was flipping through it aggressively. I tried getting close to them. "What happened—"

"And you were supposed to fucking kill the bitch, weren't you!" Percy suddenly yelled. "You should've fucking killed the bitch before she escaped again... what do I pay you for!! Huh! What do I fucking pay you for!!"

I took many steps away as he was yelling and glaring at his phone. Kill someone? That wasn't odd to me as a werewolf, but he lived a more 'refined life', right?

"Ah, right, he's a Mafia Don. Killing some bitch is just another day for him."

I meant no sarcasm and really hoped whatever he was doing would work so he'd not scare anyone around, but a butler came close to me, with her lips down turned.

"The Boss doesn't mean it like that." She said as if she was scolding me. "A lady sneaked out of our base, killed our comrades, and nearly snuck into Xexi's headquarters when we paid uniformed thugs to watch the place."

She shook her head. "Thugs are still thugs. We should've handled the place, and let me see that bitch get close."

I blinked, then calmly took myself past the door. I closed it and fell on the door with my eyes shaking. A lady sneaked out of a mafia base, killed two on the way, and reached Luther?

Maybe she didn't reach him but she got close enough. My heart panged in my chest and I tried to remain calm.

The conspirators had already sent assassins! Did that mean I could die sooner than I would expect?

No wonder Percy ran mad.

Luther had been threatened and those 'uniformed thugs' didn't even catch her. They were the ones who didn't even notice when I walked into the headquarters so truly, they should be discarded.

I heard footsteps and looked up quickly. I wiped my face in case something streamed down. "Hey, Ed.... where you sleeping?"

He was wearing dog prints pyjamas, but it was still morning, right? I glanced at my phone and it was a hour to evening. I walked towards him as he stood there, looking lost. Percy's shouts probably bothered him.

"Did his skad mess up again?" he asked with a sleepy voice. I raised a brow at the 'skad' then realized.

"Ah, I guess so. His squad must have made a mistake again, but don't worry about it, everything's going to be okay." I moved him towards his room which was up the stairs. He yawned and sort of rested on me.

He was really adorable and I carried him in my arms. He didn't weigh that much, or it was because I lifted weights with my dad for fun. I put him back to sleep and stayed there for a while.

Luther would panic again if he heard about this latest attack. If these people even knew about me then movement would be hard as well. An assassin that could best mafia men and sneak into a high facility building.

"I did pass through the place with no issue so the facility must've been shutdown. But why even?" I laid in Ed's big bed and thought.

Why was the building security protocols shut down? Even if work wasn't in progress at the moment, it'd be a bit of comfort that everything was working, wouldn't it?

Did Luther order them to set it down to save costs? I doubted that since he said Xexi was really rich and he worried for his safety.

I slowly left the bed and went downstairs to speak with Percy. Something was off and if anything from my reading of face slapping heiress will tell me, would be that something was fishy.

Percy was calm by the time I got down and I ignored Second's signal to stay back. I stood in front of him as he stared at nothing intently. "What do you want now?" he sounded gruff.

"The security at Xexi was turned off. Do you know about this?" I searched his face.

"That thing is always on..." he trailed off and his expression loosened. "I used the check when I left but I didn't hear the sensors beeped when I was with a gun."

He turned to Second and the butler also had a look of realisation. The female butler that had spoken to me earlier ran off to tell the others about this.

I added. "Those thugs are lackadaisical, but its also very possible that they just don't want to do the job. That 'bitch' could've only used the front door so they should've seen her."

The front door was the only open place, everywhere else should be locked as there was no operations. Either all the thugs, or one of them had been bought.

Percy left his seat immediately and Second followed him. I thought of following them but decided against it. What if the assassin hadn't left yet? I'd be in trouble.

"Seraphina."

I looked up when Percy called my name. That was the first time. He smirked and seemed to be his jerk self again. "You have a good brain up there, I see. You're thinking like someone with responsibilities."

I couldn't tell if that was a diss but it really sounded like a compliment. "Well, things would work better if you used your own brain fast enough too." It left me, but it's not a lie.

His expression changed and I noticed Second suppress a laughter. Percy huffed and walked away. "Says someone that looks like a pathetic runt."

And another blow to my already fragile self-esteem.
