Chapter 13 - Cursed

Chapter Thirteen

Seraphina's POV

Second shook his head, but said nothing to me. If he pitied me and my ignorance, then he could hold his sympathy because I also pitied how foolish I had been.

It's worse when I remembered that I had been foolish for longer during my past life and even worked for this pack's benefits. They really used and deceived me and when they were tired of me, they discarded me.

Now, I understood that I wouldn't have become Luna anyways. That had only been a way to keep me caged in the pack while they milked me.

I steeled my resolve and entered into my mother's room. It wasn't very dusty and everything was nearly arranged.

I vividly remembered the night my father had stayed in her room arranging everything, while sobbing. I couldn't sleep that night.

I swallowed a huge lump of saliva and went towards the pile of documents on my mother's table. There was a red marker that said 'BURN' and they were Xexi documents.

So I was right. My father probably tried burning this but was killed in battle and the key taken from him. My fists clenched and only released when Second entered the room.

"Please, arrange a fire. I have to burn these documents." I scanned through them and they had dates of more than four years ago.

"Don't you think they might be important for the case Sir Luther wants to make?" Second asked calmly.

Luther wanted to make a case? He must've taken my advice to not step down then. I grabbed them and nodded.

"Keep this hidden, ask them to help look for any other document. We'd take it back to Luther to look over."

"Understood." Second said, then relayed the information to the rest. I stayed at the door as they scavenged my mother's room. I forced a smile to be on my face. I'd definitely avenge them, all of them.

I heard footsteps climbing up stairs again and called for one of the men, the muscular one who had broken the door. "Who is that? Stop right there!"

The person stopped.

I carefully walked to the steps and my eyes dimmed at the Beta younger brother there again. "What do you want—"

"The Luna wants to see you." He spoke like I was in trouble. The scoff that left me clearly told him that I didn't think so. "You wouldn't see the Luna? How rude."

"As you can see, I'm quite busy here. I'd meet with the Luna when I'm done taking my family's belongings out of this place." I tried to keep a polite edge to my tone.

He stretched his neck to look at what's happening in my mother's room and the muscular man blocked his way. He stepped back in fear, before dragging his eyes to me.

"I will still ask you about that key when you're done with whatever you're doing." He dared to say.

That must mean whatever he needed inside that room, he must be sure that it'd still be inside by the time I was done? Could it have been hidden somewhere hard to find?

I grabbed a mop stick lying around, probably left by Jane, and the man moved back again. I stomped the mop of the ground.

"If you enter into the house of Mr. Jones and Mrs. Stephanie Jones, by my right as the legal and biological owner of this house, I ask that the Moon Goddess curse you with paralysis!" I bit my tongue and spat the blood mixed with saliva on the ground.

The man's eyes widened.

"That how for all the officials in this pack!" I said loudly, in case the Luna could hear me. "None of you from Theroes should set foot in this house or face the consequences!"

The man sneered at me before rushing down. He should've dared to defile an Owner's Curse. I moped what I spat and returned to the room.

"Second, is there a way to—"

I paused. These men had reached my mother's wardrobe and were now scanning through her clothes and underwear. I knew they were only doing their job but that just pissed me off.

"Wh-Why are you touching a dead lady's panties, huh!" I yelled at one of them.

He dropped it immediately and his usual straight face became flustered. "I-I didn't realize..."

"And why is your head in a wardrobe of swimsuits, huh, Second!" I pointed at him.

He jolted and closed the wardrobe. "My apologies!" he moved away from it.

My chest heaved up and down as I glared at all of them that I met at suspicious positions. I exhaled and smiled at them as they lowered their heads, looking like puppies found doing something wrong. I should really stop making their work more difficult than it already was.

"We might stay here for a long time. I think that there's a hidden contraption somewhere." I said to them.

With his head till lowered, Second pointed at the wardrobe he had been looking at. "I noticed one hidden there."

Another pointed at the book shelf. "One there. It's easy to open so I tried it but there's nothing inside. It seemed to be a place for a key." His eyes went to the key in my hand.

I went to the shelf and he pushed a board back to reveal a key holder that was the exact size of the key in my hand. I nodded. So that was where the key was but why was the key to my mother's room having a contraption inside the room?

"Did that means she locked her room from inside every night?" I thought out loud.

"Most likely." Second said behind me. "She probability didn't feel safe in this pack."

He spoke with laces of resentment and I could tell he held the safe views about packs that his boss did. I wondered what had happened to them.

For my pack, he wasn't wrong but I knew better packs with better policies so I wouldn't think all packs had silly shenanigans.

"The contraption there, doesn't it have a key hole?" I went to the wardrobe. It had no keyhole and only a metallic door with buttons on it. Highly classified documents should be in there and it felt to me that the brother of the Beta might know how to open it.

I will have to keep Samira here when we leave. She has to make sure no one gets here.

My attention was called again and I rushed out of the room with an annoyed expression. "I thought I cursed anyone that gets into this house again...."

I trailed off and my heart beat quicken. I diverted my eyes and instinctively stepped back. Alpha Sebastian came himself?

He stared at me with those blue eyes that I have come to fear. "You cursed who, young lady? Could you repeat the nonsense you just said?"

I could tell he was pissed.
