Williams, filled with regret, apologized to Evelyn. "You mean more to me than any billion-dollar contract. I love you, and I'm so sorry for how I spoke to you," he pleaded.
Evelyn smiled and accepted his apology easily. "Do you need the contract back?" she asked.
"If there's a way to get it, I will," Williams replied.
"Trace the man who stole the contract from you, and if you can't, I will help you," Evelyn assured him.
"Don't worry, my love. If I can't get the contract, not even Thomas will," he said.
"Do you know him?" Evelyn asked.
"No, this isn't the first time I've heard his name. I think he's from a new company. Don't worry, my love, I will definitely trace him," Williams assured her.
At the office, Williams asked his manager, Aiden, if he knew anything about Thomas. "The little I know is that he is the CEO of a gas and oil company," Aiden answered. "He also owns a building construction company he started a few years ago."
"How did he find out about the contract?" Williams asked.
"It was advertised, have you forgotten, sir?" Aiden replied.
"Alright, I haven't forgotten, but I would like to meet him to get my contract back," Williams said harshly.
"That won't be easy, boss, but we can try our best," Aiden answered positively.
"How can we go about it?" Williams asked.
"I heard this morning that he will be engaging his fiancée tonight. I think this is the opportunity to disrupt him and distract the gathering," Aiden suggested.
Williams nodded. "You have a point there," he smiled. "And for this, I am going to increase your salary," he added.
Aiden was pleased with the news. Within four hours, Williams, Evelyn, and Aiden were ready to attend Thomas and Norah's engagement party.
Williams and Evelyn dressed impeccably for the event. Williams wore a tailored black tuxedo that highlighted his strong build, while Evelyn dazzled in a floor-length emerald green gown that accentuated her elegance and grace. They made a striking couple as they entered the venue.
On the other hand, Thomas appeared at the party looking exceptionally handsome in a classic navy blue suit, exuding confidence and charm. Norah, his fiancée, was the center of attention. She wore a stunning red dress that turned heads and drew admiration from every man in the room. Her beauty was captivating, and her presence was magnetic.
Williams, curious about the woman who had everyone's attention, looked towards the stage. To his shock, he realized it was Norah, his ex-wife. The sight of her brought back a flood of memories and emotions.
As the evening progressed, Williams couldn't shake the feeling of disbelief and intrigue. He knew that confronting Thomas and reclaiming his contract would be more complicated than he had anticipated, especially with Norah now in the picture.
"What is it?" Evelyn asked Williams.
"That's my ex-wife, Norah," Williams replied, his voice filled with disbelief.
"No, this can't happen," he muttered, trying to distract the party. "Where are you going?" Evelyn called after him, but he kept walking towards the stage. Their actions caused a commotion, and everyone began recording the scene on their phones.
Suddenly, Norah spotted Williams. "What are you doing here, Williams? Who invited you to this occasion?" she demanded.
"Do you know him?" Thomas, who was about to engage Norah, asked.
"Yes, he is my heartless ex-husband, the one I told you about," she answered.
Williams, undeterred by the attention, was overwhelmed by Norah's new happiness and appearance. He cornered her, with Thomas watching closely to see what Williams would do next.
"My dear wife, I haven't signed the divorce decree yet! You can't escape from me," Williams declared.
Norah smiled indifferently. "Sir, we are done."
His eyes were bloodshot, his voice trembling as he recited their wedding vows. "Done? You vowed to love me in good times and bad, in sickness and in health. Have you forgotten?"
Norah, maintaining her composure, responded, "Williams, our marriage ended a long time ago. You need to move on."
Williams, desperate and emotional, tried to grab her hand, but Norah pulled away. "You can't just walk away from me like this," he insisted.
Norah, now visibly upset, raised her voice. "Williams, you need to understand that it's over. I have moved on, and so should you. This is my engagement party, and you are not welcome here."
Thomas stepped in, placing a protective arm around Norah. "You heard her, Williams. Leave now, or I will have you escorted out."
The crowd watched in silence as Williams, realizing the futility of his actions, slowly backed away. Evelyn, who had been watching the entire scene unfold, approached him and gently guided him out of the venue.
As they left, Norah turned to Thomas, her eyes filled with determination. "Thank you for standing by me," she said.
Thomas smiled warmly. "Always, my love."
The party resumed, but the incident left a lasting impression on everyone present. Norah had shown her strength and resolve, and Thomas had proven his unwavering support. Together, they looked forward to a future filled with love and happiness, leaving the past behind.
Upon reaching home, William sat on the sofa, looking utterly disappointed.
"What was the meaning of what you did at that party? Besides, what do you take me for, someone you can just leave for your ex-wife?" Evelyn asked harshly.
"I'm sorry, my love. It wasn't my fault," William replied.
"Whose fault was it then? Mine, because you disgraced yourself over that woman?" Evelyn said sadly.
"That woman might turn out to be my wife again. I can't let her go, not now that I'm moved by what I see in her," William said.
This statement infuriated Evelyn, and she interrupted him. "What do you take me for? Look here, you can't go for her," Evelyn assured him.
"I still have feelings for her, the same way I have for you," William replied.
"Then you are sick," Evelyn said to him.
Evelyn, her voice trembling with anger, continued, "If you even think about sharing your attention with Norah, I will make your life a living hell. Do you understand me? I have stood by you through everything, and I will not be cast aside for your ex-wife."
William, taken aback by her intensity, tried to calm her down. "Evelyn, please, let's not escalate this. I just need time to sort out my feelings."
Evelyn, not backing down, said, "No, William. You need to make a choice. It's either me or her. If you choose her, you will lose everything we have built together. I won't tolerate being second to anyone."
William, realizing the gravity of the situation, nodded slowly. "I understand, Evelyn. I don't want to lose you. I will do my best to make things right."
Evelyn, still upset but slightly reassured, replied, "You better, William. Because if you don't, I will make sure you regret it."
William, left alone in the bedroom, heard his phone ring. He checked the caller ID and saw it was Aiden. He picked up the call.
"Hello, boss. I thought we had a deal. We can still finish it," Aiden said.
"I need to decide on what to do. I can't lose everything. Moreover, it was my ex-wife the fool was engaging," William answered, frustration evident in his voice.
Aiden, sensing the tension, replied, "I understand, boss. But we need to stay focused. This contract is important for our future. We can't let personal matters interfere with business."
William sighed, "You're right, Aiden. I just need some time to clear my head and figure out the best course of action."
"Take your time, boss. But remember, we need to act soon if we want to secure that contract," Aiden reminded him.
"Thanks, Aiden. I'll think it over and get back to you," William said before ending the call.
As he sat back on the bed, William couldn't shake the conflicting emotions swirling inside him. He knew he had to make a choice, not just for the contract, but for his future with Evelyn and the unresolved feelings for Norah. The weight of the decision pressed heavily on him, and he realized that whatever path he chose, it would shape the rest of his life.
Evelyn, sitting in the living room, brought out a bottle of alcohol and began to drink, her mind racing with thoughts of how William had reacted. Under the influence of alcohol, her emotions intensified. "I can't be a waste, nor will I be a loser. Williams can't dare that with me," she muttered angrily. In a fit of rage, she threw the bottle against the wall, shattering it into pieces.
The sound of breaking glass echoed through the room, mirroring the turmoil inside her. Evelyn's anger and frustration were palpable, and she struggled to regain her composure. She knew she had to confront William and make it clear that she wouldn't tolerate being second to anyone, especially not to his ex-wife.
As she sat there, breathing heavily, she resolved to take control of the situation. She wouldn't let her life be dictated by past relationships or unresolved feelings. Evelyn was determined to fight for her place in William's life and ensure that their future together remained secure.
