Chapter 12 - Interrogation - Part 1

Agnes was still at the hospital, catering to an unconscious Anthony. So, it came upon Frank to handle the matters at home.

On Sienna's instructions, he didn't inform the guards or the servants at home about her discharge.

Kyrell gave Sienna a knowing look when he heard her plan. She was smart. The guards and the servants would be in for a surprise, especially the ones who betrayed the Lawrence family.

Sienna ignored Kyrell's gaze and focused on Frank instead. She felt terrible for him. His son was in a coma, his focus was supposed to be on his family. Yet, he was here protecting her.

'I can't allow this to continue. Anthony and Agnes need him,' Sienna thought seriously, thinking of a way to send Frank to his family.

Although she had her guard, Sienna didn't know if she could trust him. What if he was with the perpetrators as well? She'd be putting her life at risk unknowingly.

Sienna's mind was occupied and she didn't react or speak until it was time for her to leave.

Although she was fine, it wasn't to the extent that she could walk from her ward to the parking lot on her own. She could barely take a few steps without huffing and losing her energy. Moreover, her head spun and her body ached with every step she took.

Frank looked at her in worry. This wouldn't do. She had to recuperate in the hospital. But he understood her intentions too. Stuck in a dilemma, he felt helpless and lost.

In the end, they could only utilize a wheelchair. Otherwise, Sienna wouldn't be leaving the hospital at all.

Frank helped her to the wheelchair while Kyrell and the police officer looked on.

"Miss Lawrence, please go ahead. We'll follow you behind," Officer Jenkins proposed and Sienna nodded as they made their way out of the hospital.

Neither Sienna nor Frank spoke much until they were settled in the car. With Frank taking the driver's seat, Sienna sat behind as they departed from the hospital.

"Frank, what do you think about Kyrell Winchester?" Sienna asked suddenly, a strange thought springing into her mind.

"Miss," Frank took a look at the rearview before returning his gaze to the road. "Although I don't trust much, he is in my good books currently."

"Is it because he saved me?"

"Yes, Miss. If wanted to, he could have left you to die. He didn't have to save you."

"What if there's a motive behind him saving me?" Sienna propounded while she nibbled on her lower lip thoughtfully.

"It could be a possibility, Miss." Frank didn't deny the thought and Sienna went silent.

"Looks like we have another person to be wary of," Sienna mumbled and sighed deeply before leaning back.

Frank remained silent, agreeing with her. In her current predicament, everyone was suspicious. He wouldn't be surprised if she suspected him as well.

The guards were stunned to see the familiar car at the estate entrance. But they didn't dilly-dally and opened the gates.

"Allow the car behind us inside," Frank ordered before driving inside.

The servants and guards were perplexed to see their young Miss back home. They weren't prepared for her return.

Sienna scrutinized everyone while Frank helped her to the wheelchair. She didn't let go of anyone, making sure to capture their expressions. Her lips quirked up when she saw a few stunned and pale faces. But she didn't expose them as she entered the estate.

After settling Sienna in the living room, Frank returned to escort Kyrell and Officer Jenkins.

"Frank, please serve our guests some tea," Sienna ordered and neither Kyrell nor Officer Jenkins rejected her.

"Miss Lawrence, will you call the guards who were protecting your family on the day of the incident? We'd like to interrogate them." Officer Jenkins took action once Frank instructed one of the servants to prepare the tea.

Sienna glanced at Frank and the man got to work instantly. In a few minutes, all the guards who had been in charge of security on the day her family was murdered were present in the living room.

"Anthony, my brother's guard isn't here. He is still unconscious after the accident," Sienna explained.

"We understand, Miss Lawrence." Officer Jenkins smiled at her assuringly before returning his attention to the men who didn't seem fazed due to his presence.

He was impressed. The guards' mental fortitude was high. He'd have applauded them for sure if some of them weren't involved in the Lawrence family's mishap.

"I am Officer Jenkins and I'd like to ask a few questions regarding the incident." He stood in front of the group of guards, gauging their reactions as he spoke with authority.

"You were in charge of Lawrence's family's security on the night of the award ceremony. Am I right?" he started.

"Yes, Officer," the guards replied in unison.

"Would you mind explaining more about it?"

All the guards looked at the man standing at the front, holding the pose of a leader and Kyrell narrowed his eyes instantly.

"Is he the leader of the team?" he asked no one in particular.

"No," Frank answered, his tone heavy with sadness. "Their leader died while trying to protect Old Master. James took over temporarily after that."

"I see." Kyrell nodded and returned to studying James. "Please continue."

"Officer Jenkins, we were in charge of security inside the venue. Although we did team up with the security team hired by the organizers, they mainly took care of the security outside the venue," James explained. His gaze didn't waver even once and Sienna couldn't decipher if he were telling the truth or just brilliant at lying.

"In that case, who verified the people entering the venue? Was it the external security or your team?" Kyrell threw a question instantly and Sienna quirked her brow in wonder.

'The man is clever,' she thought, her eyes flashing with admiration for a moment.

"We both did. The guests were verified twice - once at the main entrance gate and then, at the venue entrance."

Kyrell stood up and pushed his jacket behind him. His flashy actions gained Sienna's attention. However, it was only momentary.

"From your words, shall I presume that your team was somehow responsible for allowing the murderers to enter the venue?"

Kyrell's question threw everyone off guard, everyone except Sienna.

James remained silent. He didn't have the guts to agree to it. But he couldn't deny it as well. Somewhere, they were at fault for the lack of proper security measures.

"Alright." Kyrell didn't force him to answer him. "Would you mind telling me who among you were in charge of verifying the people at the venue entrance?"
