Chereads / Moonlit Betrayal: A Luna’s Choice / Chapter 9 - The Aftermath of The Battle

Chapter 9 - The Aftermath of The Battle

The battle was over in a second. No one where the light came from and where it went. Did the girl child have powers? And what the rogues were talking about. What was real? Why did they run away? Why did Seth run away? He was on the verge of his death. Alder was about to kill him, but he ran away. Why didn't he fight back?

Opaline looked at the kid in her arms who was softly smiling at her. He ran to Deidra to show her that her kid was alright. At least one of her kids was alright.

"Deidra! Deidra!" shouted Opaline. But Deidra didn't move. Her eyes were open, and snow was falling in them. Nothing was making her blink. Nothing was making her move. The bleeding had rendered her weak and now after the fight, she didn't have any more energy. The last moment in her life was when she saw her child blasting a burst of light. The light was so warm that she felt at ease as if her child was telling her that she would be fine, and she could go in peace.

"No! Deidra! Look! Look at your kid. She is okay! Please wake up," cried Opaline but Deidra was gone.

Nolan came running to her and held her from behind. He too looked at Deidra and gasped with shock.

"No, she can't die. Who will look after this kid," sobbed Opaline. "What about Felix?" she looked at Nolan. He simply pressed his lips tightly and shook his head in no. tears kept falling down Opaline's face. "Poor child! She lost her whole family in one day. What are we all supposed to do?"

"We all will think of something. She will be well taken care of," Alder's voice reverberated around.

The problem was Opaline and Nolan tried for many years to have a baby, to become parents but the Moon Goddess was not blessing them with that happiness. And now finally she had a sweet girl in her arms who didn't cry for even a but, rather smiled and cooed happily in her arms. Opaline started to feel feelings for the kid. Then and there she decided that she would raise that kid.

"I will take care of her. I will raise her," said Opaline.

"What?" asked Nolan.

"We can adopt the baby. We don't have any kids. We will get a child and she will get parents. Nolan! Please!" begged Opaline.

"She is a daughter of an Alpha," said Nolan.

"Who else to take care of than an Alpha? We will give her a good house. King Alder! Say something!" said Opaline with tears dropping from her eyes.

"That is a matter for the council, Luna Opaline. I… cannot comment on that right now," said Alder.

"Then call for a council meeting right now," pleaded Opaline.

"You know right now will not be possible. We have to take care of all the fallen warriors. This child lost her parents today, we have to deal with that first. I have to take of all the warriors who fought in this battle. We have to take care of the rogues that we captured. Meanwhile, you can take care of the baby. I will soon send you a message," replied Alder.

"King Alder! You fought valiantly. I am honoured to call you my king," said Nolan. "Opaline! Listen to him. Go home! Take care of this kid. We will take care of everything and call you."

"Who else is hurt?" asked Opaline.

"Thessalia was hurt last I heard, then Lucas, Port, Henry, Consuela, Bess. But they will live. Doctors from every pack are here tonight. Everyone will be taken good care of. Don't worry!" said Nolan.

"Thessalia? Consuela? Deidra? Three Lunas? We lost one Luna and two are hurt. This day was something else," sighed Opaline.

"You fought great too," Nolan kissed Opaline's forehead.

"I will see you guys later," said Opaline, looked once at Deidra as she didn't feel good after taking her child while she lay on the ground buried in snow. "Sorry, Deidra! You were a good Luna and you sacrificed your life to get to Seth. I salute you."

"Warriors! Tend to the wounded. Alpha Markway! Alpha Frederick! Bring the rogues to the dungeons! We will break them today. Luna Consuela! You should get yourself checked out. Alpha Rodion! Alpha Borus! Take care of Luna Deidra and Alpha Felix. We will have their funeral tonight itself. Being a full moon night, the Moon goddess will welcome them with open arms," Alder mind-linked everyone and gave the order.

Everyone went to their path with a few warriors remaining at the border to make sure no more rogues crossed across but all they could see was pin-drop silence. Not even crickets were chirping, not even the wind was howling. After the battle, everything quieted down.

As per the order, Rodion and Borus first picked up Deidra and then ran to the hospital to take care of Felix. Felix was already lying on a slab in his human form. The moment he died, his wolf died, and he turned back into a human. Consuela was right behind them. The doctor saw her and ran to help her. They all searched for Thessalia, and she was being treated by other doctors. The whole hospital was in chaos. Wherever Borus or Rodion went, they always stumbled on something or the other.

Meanwhile, Alder was in the dungeons trying to interrogate the rogues.

"Tell us why Seth was killing the kids, or I will have to use my Lycan power on you," warned Alder.

"Ha-ha, you guys severed all ties from us, stripped us of our designation and powers and you think your power will work on us," laughed the rogue.

"Shall we try?" Alder squinted his eyes. One look from Alder and the rogue started shivering.

"What? What is happening? Why am I feeling weak?" asked the rogue.

"You tell me," snapped Alder and concentrated on the rogue. Rogue's brain felt as if it was ready to explode.

"Stop! Stop! I don't know anything. I just know one name," shouted the rogue through his teeth. He had his eyes shut and his fists clenched with pain.

"Give me the name and it better be good or I will explode your brain," threatened Alder.

"Augur!!!" shouted the rogue. All present inside the room looked at each other.

"Are you sure?" Alder stopped torturing him.

"Yes! Yes!" the rogue breathed heavily.
