Chapter 4 - The shadows

They both exchanged looks it seem their fears just came to pass. The students came rushing in in hordes.

"Listen up! I don't know how those bastards found our location, but I want you all to strap in we're going at full speed and just pray we make it out of here" he had a worried look on his face.

He didn't want to scare the kids more but he believed that their route was ratted out as it Was highly unlikely for the shadow to know where they were and even blend into their location without any interference.

"If I find that bastard who did this am goanna kill him and nothing is goanna stop me" he clenched his fist.

The speeding van abruptly stopped. The captain rushed to the driver side.

"What the hell! why did you stop?"

"It wasn't me I didn't stop the van the power simply went out" the already shaking driver answered.

"So, hurry up and fix it"

"Ye...yes sir" he hurriedly rushed out.

"This doesn't look good" he muttered while pacing.

Not too long the driver came back while sweating buckets.

"The circuits has been taken out and the boards are damaged"

"we'll have to fight our way out of this one" he sighed.

Deep inside a cave not too far from the van's location was an hooded shadowy figure which was like a dark wasp of smoke.

A voice rang out in its head.

"Is everything ready?" the voice asked.

"Yes master" its replied with a shrilling voice that was enough to give nightmare to little kids.

"I want them all dead!" said another voice but younger and definitely immature.

"don't worry the shadows never fail" the older voice replied you'll get the purple's head"

"Not just the purple but the red head too"

"We can't give you that its our prized jewel so you can only have the purple" the older voice replied with a firm voice leaving no room for arguments.

Sighing regretfully the younger voice accepted.

"It's time bring evoke to those fools"

"Yes master" the shrilling voice replied and left its hiding spot followed closely by a staggering number of other lesser shadows.

Back in the van the captain was giving orders to the children as well as the soldiers.

"I was you all to stay in the van no mater what. You might feel that running is the best option but trust me you can never out run the shadow they'll track you no matter where you go"

Dreama and Ashley exchanged looks.

"what do we do big brother do we still escape now at least they're not here yet" she asked with a whisper.

Dreama Shaked his head. "No, am afraid the captains right we might not be able to out run them cause they'll still be able to track us"

"We have to be prepared for the worst promise me when things go south, you'll use your life saving artifact and get out of here" he held her hands tight.

"No big brother I can't leave you here"

"You have to Ashley please I can bare to die knowing you could have saved yourself"

"I..."

An explosion rocked the van scaring everyone inside.

"Men file out and get into position" the captain barked out an order.

The soldiers all geared up filed out forming a formation.

Soon an horde of shadowy figure appeared in their view immediately launching an attack at once.

The scene soon became chaotic. The students in the van were packed tightly, their faces pale with fear and anxiety. The dim interior light flickered on and off, casting shadows here and there. The air was thick with tension and the smell of nervous sweat filled the air. The students made low hums of nervous whispers, punctuated by the occasional sobs or panicked gasp.

Outside, soldiers' faces were stern and grim as they endured the onslaught of the shadows.

Their weapons were stained black from the shadows blood. The shadows were one and synchronized as if sharing a single mind and was unfazed by the soldier's relentless effort.

One of them raised its hands, its action followed closely by the rest and a dark mist swirled around it, coalescing into a tangible shape. With a flick of its wrist, the mist is hurled towards the soldiers. It took the shape of a serpent slithering quickly towards the soldiers

"don't let that thing reach you" the captain warned.

Some of the soldiers were abled to react in time and set up a barrier. The others who didn't were engulfed by the shadow which sucked away their life force within seconds turning them into husk of their old self.

Those who saw this shivered in fright thanking their stars they weren't in the dead soldier's shoe.

"no time to wander willy nilly attack these bastards" the captain managed to snap them out of their daze.

The soldiers lunched attacks at the shadows destroying some of them but the rest kept on advancing throwing one attack at time.

Inside the bus the student could hardly see what's going on outside as their windows was smeared with blood and dirt. The noise outside was a cacophony of battle that's growing more desperate by the second.

"What do you think is going on?" A student asked with fear written all over her face.

"Do you think we're winning"

"I don't know but what ever is going on outside doesn't sound good" another student replied.

A loud thud echoes from the roof of the van, and the student heads snapped upward their hearts beating unsteadily.

"they cant get in right?" someone asked.

Something up moved about the metal surface of the bus with heavy footsteps. Suddenly a loud bang was heard as the roof of the van riped open and a shadow figure dropped in. its eyes glowed with eerie light.

Panic erupted inside the bus. The students screamed and scrambled away, pressing against the sides of the van in desperate attempt to escape. The shadow moves with an unnatural speed and grabbed onto one of the students quickly draining the life out of him. It created a clone of the self after draining the boy's life. It gave an eerily smile to the children and along with its clone it took a single step and they grabbed another student.
