"Hela." Damon called out her name as he pushed the strange woman away clinging tightly on to him.Â
The media that were present were having a field day. The shutters of their cameras were unceasing as they realised that this was a good piece of gossip.
He rubbed his hand on his forehead in exasperation as the thought of the headlines tomorrow flashed through his mind. His grandma was surely going to have a fit come morning
"Who the hell are you?" He bellowed at the woman who was still trying to cling herself to him. He can't even recall where he had met her nor how he met her.
His head reeled as the small talks go to his ears.
"He is indeed a 'man-slut'."
"Can you just see how shameless he is?"
"I should have known that nothing good can come out of him. I was shocked when I saw the news that he was going to be getting married."
"That must have been his grandmother's ploy. I'm sure the news of the marriage was just to save the company's stock prices that were down due to his philandering."
"Did you see the lady who just ran away in distraught. She must have been so embarrassed."
"I heard that he was to come with his fiance. That must have been her."
Damon saw the fingers pointing at him. He could see the mocking faces and hear the mockery and contempt in their voice, but he gave no thought to any of it as he looked towards the car that Hela had run into earlier.
He quickly ran to the driver's side, "Get out!"Â He gritted to the driver and the driver scurried out of the vehicle without a word. He knew better than to say anything.
Damon got in and drove a little distance away from the event before bringing the car to a stop.
He could hear her crying in the back seat and he was at a loss on what to do. He had never heard a woman cry out of anguish, only out of pleasure and he was good at that.Â
Swearing silently, he looked at the rearview mirror and the sight was heartbreaking.Â
"What is this tightness that I'm feeling in my heart? What?" He touched his racing heart. It must have been the adrenaline of the past few minutes, he told himself as he got down and went to her side of the car.
Steeling himself, he opened the door and got in.
"Hela." he called her name softly but she did not respond to him.
Ruffling his once perfect hair in frustration, damon attempted to touch her in order to get her attention.
"Hela." She slapped his hand away.
"Get away from me." When she looked up back at Damon, he was shocked at the bags under her eyes.
"Come on Hela, please stop crying. I don't even know who she was. I've never met her before. Remember I told you that I've never been with one woman twice. I was telling the truth."Â
Damon knew he was rambling, but he could not stop himself. Seeing her this distressed had his heart hurting and he wanted to stop it if he could.Â
"Please, take me home." Hela said in a small voice and Damon had to strain himself to hear her clearly.
Â
"Hela, we need to talk about this." He tried to persuade her to do otherwise.
"We have nothing to talk about Damon. I lost my judgement for a while and ended up making things messy." She said, trying to wipe away the tears from her eyes.
"There was nothing between us to begin with. I had no right to behave that way." She sniffled as though to prevent herself from crying again.
"Hela, you…"
"Please take me home. Now." But she cut him off.
"If you don't, I'll get down and fend for myself." she said, attempting to open the door.
"Stop, okay? Stop." Damon quickly held her hand to stop her from opening the door, but she swatted his hand away from hers as though it was diseased.Â
This place is known for its dangers. Leaving her would be paramount to leaving a chick amongst wolves. It will be an easy kill.
"I'll take you home. So, please sit back and calm down." Damon announced as he furrowed his brow, pinching the bridge of his nose.
Feeling dejected, he got down from the car and walked to the driver's side, losing his tie in the process. He got in, slammed the door hard and drove off to her residence.Â
"Fuck that woman." Damon seethed under his breath. This night was supposed to be perfect and all.
He was supposed to get her on his side and have her sign the papers, so he can get his inheritance.
But this had to happen. Why?
Damon kept staring at her from the mirror in front of him. She was looking out the window, looking demure and sad.Â
In a short while, he pulled up in front of her house, "We are here." He whispered as he alighted and wanted to go over to her side to open the door for her, but she had opened the door and bolted out before he could get to her.
"Hela." He called and went after her, but she shut the door on his face just before he could reach her.
"Damn." Damon cussed as he hit the wall with his fist.Â
He just wanted her to sign the goddamn papers, so he could get what was his; his freaking inheritance.Â
What was his grandma thinking about giving such conditions to him? But, he knew deep within himself why his grandmother came up with this plan. It would be foolish of him to bring such ignorance.
Resting on the car hood, Damon brought out a cigarette and lit it with his custom made lighter. He traced a finger over the initials on it. 'DF'.
Ironically, both his parents and himself share the same initials. He chuckled at the irony of it all
