Chapter 20 - Chapter 20: Through The Desert 2

Jisoo greeted me with a courteous bow. We greet the chosen one. Please call me Lee Jisoo."

"Oh, that's okay. Could you please clarify what is going on?" I enquired, my voice full of inquiry.

"I'm sorry, but I can't say anything at the time. We are Void, an organisation devoted to supporting the Cosmic Abyss star you hold while battling against the stars to safeguard the chosen one."

"So the same reply as the fortune teller, but why is your organisation helping us even knowing that the entire duke family of Yami no Kuni State will be against you?"

"Yes, and we have been doing this for millennia, and we will continue to do so in the future until we reach our objective, even if that angers the entire world."

Those are some incredibly daring words they're saying; I'm not sure how this organisation has ever lasted; even the star would want to burn them to a crisp, yet at least he gave me a logical explanation, unlike the other one who was speaking in cryptic tones.

He stood up and continued, "It appears that some higher-ups are interested in how you passed the trial in such a short time and about your star status; as we've been told, you are a Gemini, so what's your second sub-star?"

"Since you're not interested in an exchange of information, I'll just say that I finished the trial with my first sub-star and that my second star hasn't fully awakened yet. I won't say anything further unless you offer me an equally great bargain."

Jisoo and the others became noticeably surprised and perplexed as to what they might provide a 7-year-old. "Thank you for the information; choose one. Faunara is home to Matrix Academy, one of the state's top three academies. It runs within our organisation and will assist you in growing and fulfilling your request to the best of our ability, as well as providing you with a contract that both parties will agree on."

"Alright," I said, trying to think of what I might question and how deeply ingrained this organisation is in society, despite the fact that I had never heard of them in my prior life and was an informant for the Assassins Guild.

I then went back to the second tent, where my father was waiting. As I walked in, Father's eyes were filled with both wonder and anxiety.

"What did he ask?"

I had to be cautious about my reaction. "He instructed us to transfer the youngster to our carriage since there were valuables in the second carriage. He called for me because you were dealing with the injured beastfolk with mother."

"Ok. So you proceed to your carriage. Your sister is alone there, and your food is also there, so eat it and sleep since we have a long travel ahead."

I entered the carriage to see my sister sleeping soundly. I carefully covered her in a blanket and took a minute to finish my meal before going to sleep.

My mother quickly arrived with the injured child, who was dressed in my sister's clothing. At first sight, I believed that the child was a male, but it immediately became evident she was a girl because she was dressed in my sister's clothes.

The following few days passed without incident. However, on the third day, the beastfolk infant awoke with a ferocious and unpredictable energy. She lash out at anything that moved; it felt like she was not ready to trust anything or anyone.

My mother entered the carriage, and the girl appeared to detect a familiar presence. Her agitation gradually lessened, and she began to settle down. Later, we learnt that she had no memory of anything, including how to talk or write, which might have been caused by the explosion.

This increased the situation's complexity. My mother committed herself to training her, and after two months of patience and work, she was able to interact with others and acquire fundamental rules of conduct.

My mother later named her Seraphina. The term meaning 'fiery' reflected her early attitude and honours of a mediaeval saint famed for her charity to young children and her love to beastfolk people. Seraphina's presence helped mend the wounds in our family that had been caused by previous occurrences, as she played like a 3-year-old kid and kept the entire family entertained or busy.

Our journey was monotonous, and most of our days were the same as the day before, with stops in the nights and villages to replenish supplies. There were a few monsters, but those two guys were not your typical adventurers; they were true experts, so it was a piece of cake for them.

And there's a reason why this desert has no transportation road and is still this hard for us to travel because this desert is not a part of our country because there are many tribes that inhabit it.

Though we call them barbarians, they are still a civilised group of people with their own traditions who don't want to be a part of any nation.

So, in order to maintain their security in the reign, they have formed their own nation, and most countries want nothing to do with them because of their unique fighting style for the most part and their tough environment.

When we reached the midway point of our journey, the perpetrator who had destroyed the village grew enraged because he couldn't locate it in his own mansion.

The third young master of the Kurokage family began to talk when a person was on his knees, trembling. "yo- young lord the Baron with his family has moved towards the Aridune Desert, and it's hard to track them there due to the ever-changing condition of the harsh desert, which makes it untraceable for us."

"We sent 400 assassins into the desert to find their whereabouts, but most of them have been eliminated mostly by barbarians on their way, and some have crossed the Aridune Desert, but they didn't find the baron family that left with the group of merchants."

"We don't know of any merchants or aristocratic families who used 8 hell horses to transport products from that city to other states. I believe they have migrated into the adjacent nation ruled by savage tribes. We are deeply sorry for our incompetence. Please give me one more opportunity.

The third young lord, enraged, yelled at him, "You can't even do that now; the entire family will turn against me, calling me incompetent; do you even know what you've done?" His voice changed to fear from fury at the conclusion of the statement, which was obvious on his face.

As the individual on the ground attempts to speak again, the third young Lord moves his hand and beheads the man before continuing.

"Why would they even want to eliminate a no-name village and its people? What have they done exactly that even the royal family wants them to be gone?"
