Chapter 4 - Chapter4: The Regression

Upon awakening, I was drawn in by an overwhelming attraction to a massive black sphere that loomed before me. When I tried to speak, I was unable to stop the unstoppable force and was left speechless. In an instant, my surroundings dimmed and I could only see my own body behind them.

There was merely a white dot in front of me in an instant. It turned out to be a ring, and I was pulled to its center as I felt compelled to get closer. I could feel an unseen hand pulling me towards a dazzling white ring ahead, even if I tried not to. Suddenly my mind was filled with a replay of my past experiences and regrets.

I was instantly taken to a place I knew well—a prayer room from my early years. My sister was standing at the altar, and as I stretched out to her, I lost my footing.

I fell forward and prepared myself for the blow. But instead of landing on the chilly, hard floor, I discovered that I was standing straight, as though everything around me had moved to make me stand. The room was the same, yet it was also unique. A thick quiet pervaded the room as shadows played games on the walls.

Footsteps resounded from behind me. My parents were standing there as I turned around, their emotions inscrutable.

"Mom? Dad?" I spoke in a faint, tentative voice.

"Do you know why you are here?" My mother enquired in a kind yet sorrow-filled tone.

"I'm not sure," my thoughts racing. "The orb, the memories... it brought me here."

With a mix of worry and firmness in his gaze, my father moved forward. "You've been given a second chance," replied the man. "A chance to make things right."

"A second chance?" my astonishment and incredulity at odds with one another.

"What do you mean?" I enquire, attempting to take in the details.

"Your past mistakes, your regrets," my mother stated in a soothing voice."You've been given the opportunity to go back and change your fate."

I gulped hard, trying to take in what they had spoken.

"How...? Why?"

"Because you're not meant to be lost, You possess the fortitude to transform and build a better tomorrow. It won't be simple, though."

The space started to morph, its boundaries melting into a dazzling whirl of light. I tried to reach out again, wanting to ask more questions and hang on, but there was too much pulling me back.

My mother's words resounded, "Remember," as the darkness engulfed everything. "You have the power within you."

Even though I spoke with my parents, I didn't have the same feelings from them as I had in my former life.

I'm in an even more complicated situation now that I know there's another aristocratic origin family of which I was oblivious, and the girl named Aurora.

All of a sudden, I was sinking, tumbling into a sound and light tunnel. Recollections wavered by me akin to pieces of a broken mirror. I shut my eyes, preparing myself for what lay ahead.

I woke up with a start. The world was distinct and unclouded. I was back in my childhood bedroom, with the comforting aroma of my former space surrounding me. Feeling disoriented, I sat up with a racing heart.

"I had been given a second chance."

I looked at my status pane, curious about where I stood right now. To my astonishment, I saw that I had unlocked my second star, called "Cosmic Abyss," in addition to the well-known first sub-star Serpens Noctis. The window said that the requirements to activate it were satisfied, but it said nothing about the nature of this star or any possible consequences.

I took a deep breath and left my room, ready to face the outside world once more. I was resolved to find out more about my true parents in this life, to get my revenge, and to solve the mystery surrounding my newfound star, Cosmic Abyss.
