Chapter 1 - Danger abounds

They began whispering among themselves that they overheard their parents regarding imminent danger.

The teens called themselves PK: Persecuted kids since they were children. They were persecuted because of their beliefs but on the playground they enjoyed playing with children and teenagers who did not share their beliefs, too!

The spice of life is enriched in having a variety of friends and not just people who share a similar background. Anyone who did not belong to their background most often did not pose any danger to them. Only the extremists did.

No matter the belief or religion, some months their schools did not leave them outside the boundary wall to purchase from the sellers interesting food like pickled mango, pickled nimbu kollhi , ice creams, gup chup or pani puri, bhajjhi, etc because of the kidnappers. If the news of any kidnapper surfaced then so did school regulations.

The kidnappers would target English medium schools rather than vernacular medium schools as well-to-do parents sent their children here. So, they could obtain more ransom money or sell off children for sex trade , flesh trade or benefit their kidnappers by begging. This was unbearable to the parents or school authorities.

PKs not just faced usual danger but also danger from the extremists. Today, the whispering was very intense in the playground.

Tina is an excellent athlete but today her mind was not on the game, she didn't score well. Raj and Shreyas are skilled batsmen playing exceptional cricket but today, they got out fast. Nishit played quite calmly though danger was on his mind. Some didn't play with others but sat talking in a bench by themselves.

Leena, the biologist sat with her friends half- listening and loving the flora and insect life on the ground. She wanted to go the river but others did not have the mood. She wished to check the water level, algae, fishes on boats, normal boats and motor boats, plant life , snails, etc. She would have loved to go but she kept it to herself knowing that life was not equal for all, given their situation.

Something was going to happen. What could they do? Did they have what it takes? Will something really happen?
