Leo's POV
I took the last step of her porch and as I got to my car I stopped and turned back. The counsel wants to see me tonight to discuss Lilly being a human Thanks Greg, Fucking Greg! Lilly is a human and if she rejects me they are concerned about the security risk involved for our kind. If I tell her right now there isnt anything they would be able to do I start to walk toward her house deciding to just get it out in the open She isnt going to just believe me "Actions speak louder than words" She said that just yesterday, I have to show her I stop and turn back again towards my truck and take one last glance at her house before getting in and driving away.
I get back to the pack house just to find Greg in my office Fucking Greg!: How can I help you Greg? I muster the biggest smile I can in a dire situation while feeling my eyes shift to that of my wolf, my wolf wanting to rip Greg's throat out for making a shity situation worse. Greg, seeing my eyes shift to that of my wolf looks at me like a simpering child: A.. Alpha, I..I just wanted to apologize, I didn't m.. m...mean for it to slip that you had found your m.. mate or that she was human. I was just so pleased for you. I could tell it was an accident but I was pissed and didn't feel like giving in to forgiveness just yet, not without getting what I needed first.
"Greg, tell me about your wife, how did you tell her and how did you get her to accept it?" His eyes widened and he stammered to find his reply: W… W…. Well y.. you see Shirley m.. m.. my wife she could feel the mate bond and I.. I am a firm believer that the humans that re.. re.. reject their m.. m.. mates are the ones are usually afraid of them because they are more violent then the rest.
I softened my tone and my face as I asked him to continue and I could see him visibly start to relax and his stammer disappeared as he spoke: The last Werewolf to be rejected by a human was that Alpha about 50 miles from here, the Silvercrest pack about 5 years ago and he was known for his cruelty. That is before he went full on mad from bring rejected, and the time before that was about 8 years ago, it wasnt an Alpha this time, it was a beta but that Werewolf had had girlfriends that went to the Alpha of the Black Diamond Pack with accusations of his abuse. Like I said I've only heard of humans and Werewolves alike rejecting their mate if their mate is cruel. I told my Shirley what I was after 2 days of knowing her and although it was hard for her to wrap her head around it, she couldn't be without me just as I couldn't be without her.
I listened to him intently hanging off every single word that came out of his mouth and when he was done I sent him on his way with my forgiveness for betraying my secret. I called Dom and William into my office through our mind link, While Dom is my Beta and second in command, William is my Delta in charge of a group of other Deltas that would gather civilians to the vault which was an old fallout shelter turned safe house in case of an attack. When they arrived I was sitting at my desk with three glasses of whiskey, I stretched out my arm to hand each one a glass and they smiled as they took it: So? She accepted you? Dom asked
"Not quite, I haven't told her but I did get her to agree to work for Sinclair Corp, and she let me bring her home AND bring her food today so I do think there is hope" To me that was good news but Dom seemed frustrated.
"You cant put it off for long brother, the counsel will step in if you don't tell her and if she doesn't accept you, its a huge risk for all of us." He looked at me concerned but I knew the underlying threat in his words. The counsel would kill her, they would kill Lilly without a second thought if they think she will expose us. I stood up feeling the urge to punch him for even suggesting that but I stepped away from him knowing it wasn't him threatening her, it was the counsel.
I turned back to look at him and William: I'm supposed to be meeting with the counsel tonight but I havent told her yet and they will want to know why I haven't after its been almost a week of knowing who she is. What do I tell them to give me another day, I plan on telling her tomorrow.
"I wouldn't tell them the truth that for sure. Maybe just, I don't know, lie?" William said with his hands and shoulders up and his eyes squinted.
"No, I wont lie, I'll tell them the truth and they will back down… They will or I'll make them" I downed the last of my whiskey, slammed the empty glass on the desk and headed out of the door to make my way to city hall where we had our pack meetings. We had a big property that was more like a small town for our pack to live un-desterbed from humans. Our property bordered Forest Park Pine Grove which was 500 acres of protected land so our pack could shift and roam without people shooting us. I heard Dom and Williams glasses slam down and slide across the table as they ran to catch up with me Dom throwing a hand on my shoulder: Right here with you brother. We walked out together and made our way to city hall which was only a ten minute walk from the pack house. When we walked in we saw the usual elders some only a few year older then I, some in their 50's and 60's and some as old as 90, those were the ones I would have a hard time convincing. I told them the progression of things, leaving out a few details that would put a negative spin on things. The older elders tried to convince the younger that there was a danger and that I hadn't told Lilly the truth because I knew she would reject me and put us all in danger of exposition. I put my hands up and said: That is simply not true.
"The tell us Alpha Sinclair, why have you refused to tell her?" Elder Donoghue said, he looked like he was halfway in the crypt with his pale grayish crepe skin, his over sized pointy nose and long fingernails.
"You want to know why I haven't told her? Because I was being kind, trying to give her space to get to know me. I wanted to give her time to fall in love with me not just because of a mate bond but because she knows and trusts the human in me before I introduce the wolf in me." I wanted to tell them I would show her tomorrow but decided against it and that I'd wait for their command of it instead
"You must tell her immediately or we will take matters into our own hands." My hands clinched tightly at there threat feeling my wolf directly under the surface trying to break free and rip everyone of their throats out. I held myself back closing my eyes and breathing deeply to shift my eyes back to normal. I nodded in agreement but I couldn't say anything or I would cause an even bigger problem. I simply turned and walked out of the building with Dom and William on my heels.
