Chereads / Ascension Of Fire / Chapter 2 - Bean Pole

Chapter 2 - Bean Pole

Bang! Bang!

A blue blur could be seen flying out the third floor window of the male dorms of Horizon University, A trail of smoke flowing its decent.

"That was surprisingly easier than last time"

Said Aaron, standing in front of what used to be his living room window. He'd just used his Spark skill for the first time, and as shown by the missing window, it didn't disappoint.

"A single blast was enough to send that thing flying. The second one was a bit overkill, but hey, you can't be too safe."

Said Aaron while turning towards the exit of his dorm room.

'Its much faster if I just use my sword to kill the beasts, and more practical. It makes no sense using 10 MANA points for what I can accomplish without using so much as 1 STAMINA point.'

Thought Aaron while walking through the corridor leading to the stairs to the lower floors. The corridor was eerily silent, probably because everyone was cooped up in their room, trembling in fear.

'What would be the safest place to be in the campus under these circumstances? Definitely not the lecture rooms, the gym maybe? It does have small, high windows and a reinforced door.

This school being a gathering place for the wealthy, has had a disturbing number of terrorist attacks, they had to build a secure shelter. Guess coming here wasn't so bad after all.'

Thought Aaron as he finally reached the ground floor. The place was a mess, blood, corpses, broken glass and splintered wood could be seen almost everywhere.

Aaron suddenly bent backwards, dodging an icicle aimed for his neck.

Bang!

It crashed into a wall.

"Aimed for the neck, no hesitation to kill whatsoever, definitely not a student"

Aaron muttered, he turned to look at the direction the attack came from, only to find a cute, white rabbit with red eyes staring at him.

"This might be a problem"

Rabbits were know for their speed, and if this applies here, well, it will be a huge problem.

Three more icicles shot towards him.

SLASH! SLASH!

He quicly cut two of them while dodging the third.

"Small and fast, an annoying combination. Under normal circumstances that is"

BANG!

An explosion from three sparks resounded behind the rabbits head, blowing it to peaces.

"Hehehe I might get addicted to this skill"

Said Aaron

"That was a level 2? Pretty weak. Probably a spead over defense type. That gave me a stat specific point, strange the last two only gave AP."

Said Aaron while walking outside the dorm house. He just ignored the mess before him and turned to the gymnasiums direction.

'I think I know what Chained Heart does now'

He thought.

The gymnasium, being about 20 minutes on foot from the dorms, would take longer since he couldn't just walk in the open like a moron. He had to take detours.

' Hmm I wonder how Dave's doing, with his personality, he's either dead or under his bed'

Aaron suddenly stopped his journey towards the gymnasium, and furiously scratched his head.

"Damn it"

He said while turning back to the dorm house.

"That bean pole owes me a weeks worth of Aunt Maria's custard for this"

Aaron walked back into the dorm house and went to the fith floor where Dave's room was located.

Bang!

He kicked down the door infront of him only to find a bird looking creature staring at him.

A bird with a four metre wingspan.

He dashed at the bird with his sword in his right hand.

SLASH!

He swung his sword at the birds neck, only for it to go right through it, living no mark behind.

"What the.."

Before Aaron could complete his sentence, a figure shot towards him from his left.

Bang!

He kicked out his left leg and sent the figure flying back into the door it had just leaped out of.

He dashed into the room only to find the target of his return gasping for air on the floor.

"Bean pole?"

Dave looked up, only to find the annoyingly familiar face of his childhood friend staring at him.

"A?"

He said while rubbing his chest to ease the pain.

"What are you doing here, those animal things are everywhere, you should be in your room"

Dave said.

"Yeah? Then what?"

Aaron questioned.

"Huh? What do you mean 'then what'? You wait for the dorm master to tell you what to do" Dave said.

" And what makes you think he's alive still? Like you said, monsters are everywhere. We need to go to the safest place on campus, aka the gymnasium." Aaron said

" I... I guess that's right. Why didn't I think of that?" Dave muttered.

Aaron shook his head at his friend. Dave was smart, but he didn't do well under pressure without someone to calm him down.

"Lets go" Aaron said

Dave got up to his feet and followed Aaron out his room.

"What was that thing you did with the bird monster before? An illusion? Aaron asked

"Yeah I got this ability called mirage according to this system screen" Dave replied.

'So he also thinks it's a system, well he was the one who got me into novels to start with' Aaron thought.

" Thought so, that can come in handy if used right. What's the full description?" Aaron asked.

"Its basically self explanatory, I can create illusions. The range is only a five metre radius though." Dave explained.

" hehehe looks like coming back for you was the right call after all" Aaron muttered.

"The hell you just say?!!" Said Dave, outraged.

This bastard was thinking of living him here?

"Well it would be easier taking care of myself than taking care of both me and a big lump of bones like you. You stick out like a sore thumb."

Dave's looks weren't that impressive, he sported shoulder length black hair, green eyes and an oval shaped face. What made him really stand out was his height. Dave stood proudly at two meters tall. With his height, he was pretty hard to miss, well that and him being a black skinned guy in a 95% white school.

"You're one to talk, where have you ever seen a black dude with you're looks?" Dave retorted.

"Fair enough" replied Aaron as he once again, reached the ground floor.

"We're heading straight for the gymnasium" He said.

"Are you brain dead? We'll be sitting duck if we do that. We need to get there by going between the buildings"

Said Dave, looking at Aaron with an "do you have more than one brain cell" look.

Aaron stared back at him with a straight face

"That's where you come in genius, use that power of yours to make us look like the walls. It doest have to be perfect, just change the colour of our clothes to match the wall.

Wait what the MANA cost of your ability?" Aaron asked.

"Don't worry, you're idea might work, it only uses 2 MANA points every 10 minutes. I have ten MANA points so we're good" Dave replied

' ten?! How the hell?' Aaron screamed in astonishment.

'Nah its too soon to judge based on one person's stats. Let's wait for more data'

"Alright then, let's go. And don't go around announcing your stats like that, that's very private information. Whether we live or die will probably be determined by our stats soon" Aaron told Dave.

"Yeah I know, I only said them out loud cuz it's you" Dave replied while changing the colour of their clothes.

"Heh" Aaron chuckled.

'Same old Dave' He thought

"We're all set, let's move" Dave said.

' Good thing Aaron and I don't have to worry about anyone aside from ourselves, its times like these that being orphans is actually helpful. Too bad the orphanage shut down six months ago, we have no way of knowing who's where. Meh, the sister always told us to watch out for ourselves anyway, she'll be fine.'

"So what do you think is going on?" Aaron asked.

"Hell if I know, my best guess is probably what you're thinking" Dave replied

They looked at each other

"Global awaken" they said at the same time

"Pfft"

"Hahaha"

"If thats the case then I'm screwed, I haven't read a novel in years." Said Dave while whipping a tear from his eye.

"You should be able to survive with what you know" Aaron replied with a smale

'Good, let's keep his mind busy so he doesn't panic' he thought.

"I was just thinking, how do you think sister is doing?" Dave asked Aaron, sending him a side glance.

"She.."

Aaron's was cut short before he could complete his words.

"What?" Asked Dave.

Aaron pointed his finger dead ahead of them.

A white figure flew towards them from the distance.

"Turn invisible, I'll handle it." Aaron said

Dave didn't argue and his figure disappeared.

Aaron dashed to his right, heading for an alley in between campus buildings.

'I can't handle a flying opponent without making too much noise now that I'm outside. I need to get in between the buildings." He thought.

Quicly getting to his destination, he jumped from wall to wall, climbing up towards the buildings roof. His enhanced body granted him this privilege.

He got to the roof and crouched, waiting for the figure to fly towards his previous location.

Just before the figure reached that spot he jumped off the roof and landed on its back stabbing his sword into its head, only to be met with resistance.

'Level 3?' He guessed

"This is gonna be loud."

Three embers appeared around the figures head, which turned out to be a bird-like beast.

'Spark, Spark, Spark'

Aaron jumped off the beasts back after casting Spark three times, landing on a neighboring building.

BOOM!

The Sparks went off at the same time multiplying the damage they delt.
