Chapter 5 - Danger at every corner

Gymnasium

"Alright then, we need to discuss how this will work. We need something to carry all the food and water we'll be bringing here. Any suggestions. Cecilia asked Aaron.

Aaron looked at her with a confused gaze, trying to process her words.

"What?" She asked.

" Why would we need to bring a lot of supplies here? We can just keep going back out. Supplies to feed 5 people for a day or two aren't that hard to carry." He said

"Huh? What are you talking about, we'll be getting food and water for everyone in the building." She said matter-of-factly.

"Wait, wait, wait. You want us to bring them food while they stay here being safe and comfortable?" Dave asked with a raised brow.

"Yes. I do. You can't expect people without fighting ability to go out there can you?" Cecilia replied.

"That's right! It's the responsibility of the strong to protect for the weak!" One of the people in the building said.

Aaron stared at them like he was looking at a bunch of morons.

"You can take your responsibility and shove it way up where the sun don't shine, pal. I refuse to risk my life for people who won't fight for theirs." He said.

"I'm sorry but I agree with Dave and Aaron on this, we can't have parasites here. Everyone needs to work in order to eat, that's how it has always been." Alex said.

"But how do you expect them to fight for..."

"They don't have to fight" Dave cut Cecilia off.

Everyone stared at him, a sign for him to continue.

"We could take a few hands with us out, two or three people to help carry the supplies. They wouldn't have to fight as they would be protected. Besides, it's not only people who can fight that are needed in a battle, take me for example.

I'm going out there even though I have no offensive ability, but the ability I do have could prevent me from getting spotted, thus giving us more hands to carry supplied." Dave explained.

"As long as they have abilities that can help bring more supplies, they should be brought along." He concluded.

"That would make sense. In that case, we need to take record of everyone's ability, to figure out how to properly use them." Cecil said.

"Hold on! You can't expect us to go out there! How sure are you that you can protect us?!" Someone shouted.

"Either that or starve, buddy. Your choice." Aaron said.

"Now, who has a pen and paper?" He asked.

"Pretty boy, you take the names and abilities." He said.

"Why me?" Alex asked with a wronged face.

"Why not you?" Aaron replied with a grin.

Alex sighed, but went to do it anyway.

"So, lady protector, Anything else we need to do?" Aaron asked.

"My name is Cecilia. And yes actually, there is. We need a party to go out and rescue the other students who haven't made it here. We have more than enough space for more than double our current numbers Here" she said.

"You're kidding. Why would we go out of our way to do that, we're fine with the current personnel we have." Aaron replied.

"We can't just let them die out there, and it would be easier to protect this place if we have more fighters." Cecilia said.

"Sigh, fine. You're the leader. But can we do this all tomorrow? I'm tired and need to sort some things out." Aaron said.

Cecilia nodded. "I think we're all tired from today's events."

Aaron sat back down and closed his eyes.

'Today's been one hell of ride. I think my mind is overheating, and it's only been around three hours since all this started.' Aaron thought.

'Sigh, system.'

'Pretty much what I expected, but it has no level?' He thought while staring at this ability.

'No use stressing about it, I'll find out sooner or later.'

"Now how do I open this new ability" Aaron questioned while rubbing his chin.

He did as the system told him last time, focusing on the question marks, and voila there it was.

A notification popped up.

"Yes" He replied

"What?" Was all he could say after reading the abilities' details.

Aaron currently only had 80 points on his MANA stat, meaning he could only use this thing for 2 minutes and that was assuming he didn't use any other skill while using this one.

With the amount of damage it deals, and the boost given by his "Child Of Fire" tittle, killing a level 2 would be as easy as twisting a chickens neck.

'Wait, now that I think about it, just how much healt did that level 3 white eagle have? With the help of my tittle, each spark deals a (-15 health) damage with each cast, multiply that by 3 and that's...'

"Shit." Aaron said while grabbing his sword and standing up.

"What?" Dave who was sitting right besides him asked.

"Come with me" Aaron said while moving towards Cecilia's direction.

When they got close to her, she turned to stare at them questioningly.

"Hey, can I talk to you for a minute?" Aaron asked.

"Uhh... sure. Wait here" Cecilia said to Jordan, who nodded in confirmation.

They went to the most secluded location available in the building and huddled together.

"What's up? Why are you guys gathering here?" Alex who walked up to them asked.

"You done with the collection?" Aaron asked?

"I asked Rachael to help" Alex replied

"Good. Come, you need to hear this too" Aaron said.

"Alright. How many of you guys have killed a beast?"

"I have" Cecilia immediately said.

"Same" Alex said.

"I know you did" Aaron said to Dave.

"Okay, and what level were they?"

"Level 1" both Alex and Dave said.

"A single level two and three level ones" Cecilia said.

"Okay. Cecilia, what ability do you have? And how much damage does it deal? How long did it take you to kill the level 2?" Aaron asked

"I only have one support ability and one offensive ability. The offensive one deals a (-5 health) damage. Took about seven or eight successfully landed attacks to kill." She said.

"If thats the case then going out might be a lot more dangerous than we thought." Aaron muttered.

"What do you mean?" Alex asked with a solemn expression.

"A level 2 monster took a grand total of about (-40 health) damage to put it down, which is still doable, IF they're alone. Being attacked by three or more will be troublesome. Now, I killed a level 3 on my way here and that took me 3 attacks with a (-15 health) damage.

I'm guessing it was injured because that makes no sense, but that's besides the point. The point is, if we get attacked by even 2 or 3 level 3 monsters while we're out there, the non-combatants will most definitely die. Killing one is too difficult. We cant handle them with our current fighting power." He concluded.

'Well, I can kill them like flies but they don't need to know that. I'd rather not be forced to accompany every resque and resource team.' Aaron thought.

"If a level 1 one is hit even once by a level 3, they will die, unless they have a defensive ability." Cecilia muttered.

Aaron nodded, while the others just stayed quiet.

"Its not like this changes anything. At the end of the day, we still need to go out there for food or we'll starve to death. If no one wants to come along because they're hungry, let them starve." Dave said.

"True. I guess we really do need more man power, Cecilia. Rescuing the other students should be done as soon as possible." Aaron said while looking at Cecilia.

Cecilia nodded.

"We can discuss this further after we get the ability report."

"I have it here. Just finished it" Said Rachael while walking up to them.

"Alright we will need to categorize them based on their uses. For now, we need fighters and tanks, as well as a few support ability wielders. Prioritize those and we'll sort the others later." Alex said to Rachael.

"Got it" she replied.

"It's still around 3pm right now, I dont think we can afford to wait until tomorrow to get the supplies. People get annoying to deal with when they're hungry." Dave said while looking back at the rest of the people in the building.

"I'm talking from experience." He said.

Alex and Cecilia looked at him but didn't ask any questions.

"Alright. We will set out after properly organizing our battle formations." Cecilia said.

A few minutes later

"So we have 38 people with defensive abilities, 26 with offensive abilities, 5 with supportive abilities among which is a single healer, and lastly we have 3 people with abilities what can help with resource collection. The others have abilities that wouldn't be invaluable in battle or resource collection.

Among the 26 with offensive abilitiee, 11 are long range while 15 are long range." Rachael reported.

"Okay, any ideas for the formation we will use while we're moving?" Cecilia asked.

"We can have 20 people with defensive abilities form an outer shell around 12 close range offensive ability users, they will be the second shell, then 8 long range offensive ability users will form a third shell, with the 8 non combatants at the core.

The rest of the defensive and offensive ability weilders will stay here just in case something goes wrong." Aaron said.

"Anyone else have a suggestion?" Cecilia asked.

The other 3 shook their heads. "This formation is solid enough." Alex said.

"Alright then, gather everyone we need and brief them on the formation. We move out in an hour, max" Cecilia said.

"Yes ma'am" Alex and Rachael both said.
