Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: The Misfortunate Roldi Frelair

"The Fool!"

Klein admitted that when he heard this, his heart skipped a beat, and he even forgot about his headache, considering whether he should change his title for the next meeting.

After all, sharing a name with a god was quite thrilling.

But the next second, he saw Lin Ruo's expression become extremely puzzled.

"But as far as I know, that pathway hasn't produced a Sequence 0 yet. How could you have met Him?"

No Sequence 0? That's a relief!

Klein breathed a sigh of relief, and the idea of changing his title faded. After all, he had just announced himself as "The Fool." Changing it at the next meeting would damage the image he was trying to project and might even expose him.

Moreover, if using this title was really problematic, changing it now wouldn't help. So, he decided to continue using it.

This wasn't surprising, as Klein, who had no reverence for gods, hadn't fully grasped the dangers of the extraordinary realm in this world. Naturally, he wouldn't change his seemingly reckless behavior.

Lin Ruo then asked, "Klein, can you describe The Fool in detail? Of course, if He forbade it, then forget it."

"Um… sorry." Klein hesitated for a moment but shook his head.

The more he said, the more mistakes he might make. He still didn't understand the extraordinary realm well and didn't want to reveal too much.

"It's okay." Lin Ruo deliberately showed a disappointed expression, then forced a smile and said, "You look very tired. Rest for a while… huh?" A strong sense of dizziness overwhelmed Lin Ruo, and before he could react, he lost consciousness.

At the same time, from Klein's perspective, the spirit companion who had been speaking suddenly disappeared.

"Lin Ruo?" Klein called out in surprise. He walked to the mirror and looked around from different angles but couldn't find Lin Ruo's reflection.

"What happened?"

Ruen Kingdom, Backlund—

When Lin Ruo's consciousness returned, he smelled a faint stench before opening his eyes and felt someone rummaging through his pockets.

His body reacted faster than his mind, and he heard a scream. When he opened his eyes, he saw a dirty, ragged man, seemingly a beggar, clutching his hand and lying on the ground. Seeing Lin Ruo awake, the man looked terrified and ran away, shouting, "Ghost! Ghost!"

Lin Ruo's mouth twitched. He looked down at his chest and saw large patches of dried blood and a hole in his clothes at the heart, suggesting he had been shot.

He quickly lifted his shirt and found that although his skin was covered in blood, there were no wounds. The injuries had healed.

Lin Ruo was confused. He had just been teasing Klein in Tingen, and now he had a body and was in a different place. Anyone would be bewildered.

But there was no time to think, as he heard footsteps approaching the alley.

Ignoring why he could hear footsteps from so far away, Lin Ruo injected spirituality into the secret badge, turning himself invisible. He found the badge still in his hand when he woke up.

Seconds later, the beggar returned with a man dressed like a policeman.

Under Lin Ruo's watch, they searched the alley but found nothing except dried blood. The policeman seemed displeased with the beggar, scolding and kicking him.

Fortunately, they didn't stay long and soon left. Lin Ruo sighed in relief and was about to check his body further when memories flooded his mind.

These were the memories of the body's original owner.

The body's original owner was named Roldi Frel, a 19-year-old detective and a Sequence 9 Hunter.

Roldi Frel had a tragic life. Born into a noble family, his life was happy until seven years ago when his father, a viscount, was imprisoned for involvement in a rebellion and later committed suicide in prison.

Although Roldi and his mother weren't directly implicated, the family's downfall was swift due to various pressures, and his mother died of grief.

When Roldi was about to come of age under the care of a loyal butler, a sudden fire destroyed everything. The butler saved him, but Roldi chose to hide his identity, using money to create a fake identity and disguising himself.

Roldi could have left Backlund to start anew, but he couldn't abandon his quest for revenge. He stayed to investigate the truth and became a detective. Knowing about the extraordinary, he frequented mysticism gatherings and eventually bought the Hunter potion formula, becoming a Sequence 9 Hunter.

Feeling hopeful for revenge, Roldi prepared the potion and became a Hunter yesterday.

In this situation, Roldi should have lived better, but his newfound power made him overconfident. He went to the East District alone and encountered human traffickers.

Despite his misfortunes, his sense of justice led him to intervene.

He was then ambushed and shot dead by the traffickers' accomplice!
