Chapter 5 - 5-Shifts in demeanor

Arjun rarely took charge of the Kapoor Corporation Group in the past. He had managed it remotely from abroad. Despite this, the company had seen steady growth and an increase in share price since he took over. Now that Arjun had returned, those who had been exploiting the Kapoor Corporation Group would naturally be anxious.

"Ananya, you'd better think this through. If you can't manage Raj, then there's no need to continue this marriage," Sushma said coldly, treating Ananya as merely an object with her harsh words.

Ananya knew that if she didn't act quickly, Sushma would call the Sharma family next. Her parents would then call to reprimand her for her imprudence and failure to please them. Unfortunately, she was exhausted from being a puppet in their game.

After ending the call, Ananya sent Sushma the address of Raj's villa in the suburbs, where he kept his mistress. Sushma could easily find out about Raj's affair if she wanted to. Ananya wasn't sure if Sushma already knew about Raj's relationship with Meera, which might explain her increasingly domineering attitude towards Ananya. On one hand, Sushma demanded that Ananya be a dutiful daughter-in-law; on the other hand, she expected Ananya to resolve all of Raj's work issues. Such wishful thinking—using Ananya as a mere tool.

When Ananya arrived at the office, she noticed that the entire floor was unusually quiet. Everyone seemed to be on edge, glancing frequently at the elevator.

Her colleagues whispered, "I heard that all senior management has been called for a meeting. President Arjun doesn't seem to be leaving this time."

"A few days ago, The Wall Street Journal had an exclusive interview with President Arjun—a genius with dual degrees from Harvard! Major changes are expected at Kapoor Corporation Group."

Ananya walked to her desk. Thinking about Arjun—who was currently on the top floor of Kapoor Corporation Group—the corners of her lips curled up. It was undeniable that Arjun was incredibly attractive—both in and out of bed. Of course, his aura of power and control was part of his allure.

As soon as Ananya sat down, someone patted her on the shoulder. "Why isn't Raj here yet? If he doesn't attend the senior management meeting, will our department be the first to face the consequences?" Ananya's colleague, Eve. who was aware of Ananya's relationship with Raj, asked.

Ananya put on her staff pass. "I don't know."

Eve's eyes showed a hint of surprise before she masked her disdain. "Isn't Raj your fiancé? Even someone as beautiful as you can't keep a man?"

As the saying goes, beauty combined with capability is a powerful asset. Ananya had graduated from Delhi University—the top institution in the country. But in a large corporation like Kapoor Corporation Group, Ivy League graduates were common. Thus, Ananya's educational background didn't stand out, but her beauty was exceptional.

"Ananya, I think I saw Raj shopping with a woman recently—his arms around her waist. Did you get cheated on?" Eve asked sympathetically, as if it were difficult to marry into a wealthy family.

Ananya sighed and organized her documents. "Maybe." Just then, the elevator doors opened, and Raj walked in, looking disheveled in a gray suit. He seemed irritated, having evidently had a long night.

Ananya handed Raj the neatly arranged documents. He cast a disdainful glance at her before heading toward the private elevator. "Follow me to the top floor for the meeting." If he faced any difficulties during the meeting, Ananya would be there to assist, as all the documents were prepared by her.

The atmosphere on the top floor was tense; senior management was on high alert. Raj looked frustrated. When he entered the conference room and saw the man standing in front of the window wall, he shivered and lowered his head respectfully. "Young Uncle… President Arjun."

The conference room had a large window wall behind the master seat. Arjun walked to the master seat and sat down, his face expressionless, like an approaching winter. The room was filled with silence, and all the directors were visibly anxious, their palms sweating.

Ananya scanned the room, noticing many familiar faces—some from the Kapoor family and others who were Arjun's elders. She smiled to herself at the sight of a group of elders being so intimidated by a junior. She looked up and met Arjun's calm gaze.

Tsk, men and their sudden shifts in demeanor after leaving the bed.
