Chapter 2 - I Have System...?

What do you think is the first reaction when you see a zombie apocalypse? "Oh, it's finally here. Now I can rule the world. Nothing can stop me anymore, I'm above the system. Hooray?"

The answer is "No"—you can't think of anything. Your mind either goes completely blank, or you have so many thoughts at once that you have no idea what's happening. Imagine just going to take a piss, then passing out, only to find out that the Apocalypse has arrived.

"N-no, no way…"

*crunch* *crunch* *crunch*

*reach*

I fell to my knees.

*grrrr* *grrrraaarr*

In disbelief, I stared blankly at the zombie coming toward me. I know I need to move, but my body refuses to listen!

*grrrrr*

"Move, come on, move," I scream inside my head.

*grrrrr*

I see that thing getting closer, but I still can't move.

"Damn it, move! You didn't survive everything just to die now. The whole world is ahead of you," I tell myself, trying to motivate myself.

*whirr*

"Fuck!"

"Fuck!"

"Fuck!"

"MOVE!!!!"

*reach*

"…"

"…"

"…"

"Ugh, ugh, ugh," I barely managed.

The zombie that nearly bit off my arm was now lying in the spot where I had just been.

"What do I do now?" I wonder, looking around. One body is lying on the ground, and knowing zombie movies and stories, I know it will soon turn and attack me as well.

"I need to find something to kill this damn zombie," I said, looking around nearby for a weapon.

*grrrrr*

"Heh, just yesterday I was laughing at some MC who couldn't quickly kill a few zombies, and here I am, barely able to avoid one."

"I'm pathetic."

At that moment, I felt a huge "BOOM!" as if someone had hit me with a baseball bat. It wasn't a physical blow but a mental one. I'm not the only one in this situation. My mom and sister are out there where there are even more of these bastards.

"I need to get a grip," I muttered.

"Ugh," Mark slowly calmed his breathing. There wasn't much to do at the bathroom entrance. The walls and floor were covered with tiles; on the right were three sinks, and on the left, a few trash bins. In front of him stood a broom and a dustpan.

"A broom could pierce a zombie's head," Mark thought, planning how to quickly get past the zombie and grab the broom.

Remembering that zombies are very sensitive to sound, I searched my pockets for something that could distract the corpse. Slowly pulling out my phone, I mentally prepared myself for what was about to happen.

I quickly threw the phone to the right, and luckily, the sound of the phone hitting the wall interested the zombie more than my body.

As quickly and quietly as possible, I approached the broom and started unscrewing the handle.

Unfortunately, I was too loud, and the zombie quickly moved toward me.

With no time left to hesitate, I had to defend myself.

"Huff, huff, huff"

"Phew… I made it," I said with a smile. Quickly regaining my composure, my attention was drawn to a notification:

[You have gained 1 Apocalypse Point]

"I have a system." - …

"…"

"…"

"YES!! I HAVE A SYSTEM" - at least now my chances have improved.

"System."

"Open."

"Status."

"System, activate."

"…"

"Why isn't it working :("

Damn, I have a faulty system. What kind of luck do you need to have a system that doesn't work?

"Or maybe I'm just stupid… since I earned 1 Apocalypse Point, there must be somewhere I can spend it?"

"BUY!"

"MARKET"

"OPEN SESAME!"

Am I really going to have a useless system?

"Ugh, I need to buy some food and drinks from this shop."

"Wow, that's a lot," Mark thought as he scrolled through the list of categories. "I've watched and read more than one apocalypse scenario. I need to prepare and arm myself," I said, looking around again and wondering what to buy first.

"Ugh, let's see what the prices are like."

"But I have to buy it. Without a weapon, I don't stand a chance against these monsters."

"Buy a baseball bat," I said, looking at the shop.

[Inventory]

[Baseball Bat x1]

"Hmm, how do I pull this out?"

"Baseball Bat, show yourself!""It's not working."

"Maybe I just need to think about it?" Moments later, a baseball bat appeared in my hand. It was a big, metal brute. One solid hit to the head, and a zombie is down.

Suddenly, I heard that rasping sound again.

*grrrrr* *grrarrr*

Quickly turning around, Mark saw the woman who had just been lying dead on the ground starting to get up. Like the first zombie, her eyes were completely white, and her body began to emit a rotten stench.

"I dealt with one, so the second one should be easier, right?" I said to myself, trying to boost my confidence.

No, wait.

Why am I so scared of a simple zombie? Not only am I armed, but I also have a system. Mark thought, looking at the baseball bat in his hand and the zombie that was approaching.

"I can't be such a wimp."

"My mom and sister are still out there among those monsters," I said loudly enough that the zombie started running toward me.

"I need to start killing these zombies; otherwise, I won't be able to save them."

As the zombie got less than two meters from me, I quickly swung and struck as if I were chopping wood.

*swish*

*reach*

"H-how," I said, quickly stepping back three steps. "My attack shattered its skull, but it's still alive," I thought, recalling how much force I put into that swing.

"I need to be stronger."

*swish*

"I can't spend hours killing one zombie."

"I need to visit my family."

"Damn it, just die already!"
