Chapter 2 - Ishi

The Goddess stared at the rock, her expression a mixture of deep contemplation and growing curiosity. There it sat, unmoving, unyielding, transcending the very laws of existence and the universe she had carefully set. But then, just as she was about to reset the universe to solve her problems...

The rock... it rolled. Pitifully. Barely an inch, and with all the grace of a pebble kicked by a bored child.

The Goddess blinked. Had she imagined that? No hidden force, there was nothing that explained this small, almost laughable motion.

And then, she did something that no one, not even she, had anticipated. She laughed. A bright, melodious sound that echoed through the void, causing stars to twinkle a bit brighter and planets to wobble in their orbits.

"Oh, you cheeky little thing!" she chuckled, wiping a tear from the corner of her eye. "You wait until after I try everything, and then you decide to move. How delightfully infuriating!"

The rock, now back in its original position, sat quietly, as if it had done nothing unusual at all. But the Goddess couldn't let it go. There was something about this absurd, stubborn little stone that intrigued her more than anything else she had ever created.

"Well, if you're going to be that way," she said with a grin, "how about we make things a bit more interesting?"

With a snap of her fingers, the rock was lifted, floating around her like a planet orbiting its neighboring star. She immediately accelerated, ignoring all distance and transcending the very laws she had set upon the universe herself. She escaped the boundaries of creation (the multiverse) in an instant and then, with the lightest tap of her finger, the rock reacted.

It rapidly expanded, its size warping and twisting, sending ripples through the absence of reality itself. The "cosmos" around it bent and shifted. The rock's form became fluid, reshaping and evolving until, it morphed into the shape of a humanoid figure.

The energy settled, revealing a young looking boy with a very plain expression floating before her. His hair was a rich chestnut brown his eyes a deep red that held a depth that hinted at the same stubbornness and mystery the rock had once possessed.

The Goddess stepped back to admire her handiwork. "This is the form you chose for yourself huh? Not bad." she mused. "Not bad at all."

The newly formed being blinked, its glowing eyes focusing on the Goddess. It tilted its head slightly, as if trying to comprehend its new existence. Then, with a hesitant movement, it raised one of its hands and looked at it, flexing the fingers experimentally.

The Goddess beamed at the sight. "Well, look at you! All shiny and new. Can you speak, I wonder?"

The being opened its mouth, but no words came out. Instead, there was a undescribable horrific sound worse than all the horrors you can imagine. The Goddess giggled, utterly charmed by this strange creation.

"Speech may need to be worked on," she said thoughtfully.

She floated closer, her presence both comforting and awe-inspiring. "I think you need a name, don't you? Something fitting for someone who made even me laugh."

The being looked at her, the glow in its eyes flickering slightly, as if it was listening intently. The Goddess tapped her chin, considering.

"How about… Ishi?" she suggested, smiling. "It means 'stone' in the language of my favorite world. Simple, yet solid, like a rock."

'Ishi' didn't respond verbally, but instead attempted to do something resembling a smile.
