Chapter 31 - Survival of the fittest

The next day.

After they had been walking the land for almost half a day, Lumin and his subjects finally arrived at their destination.

The Sovereign land, popularly known as the Outlands.

Here, all types of creatures exist and live together, but not in a sense that equals unity.

No.

They all had to fight for territories, only the strong survived, and the weak were either turned to slaves or had to leave to find new territories.

Standing at the other side of the bridge that led to the Outlands, Lumin and his subjects observed the area.

The bridge was right across the grand canyon, and was made from dirty ropes and broken wood. A single step, and it was sure they would all drop to the bottom.

"A…are we really going to cross this? It looks really unstable." Melfi spoke, her fear of heights getting to her.

"Sure we can, we'll just jump over it, it's really not that far if you think about it, right Alpha?" Lumin turned to look at Alpha who was carrying him like always.

Her eyes were fixed at the other end of the bridge, as if she was silently whispering to herself.

And then all of a sudden, she spoke -

"Please hold on, My Lord,...I'll get us there ."

She took a few steps back.

'Eh? W..ait, d-'

Boom!

She zoomed forward, and with a single leap, she shot herself over the bridge and landed somewhere in the forest.

Ruxy and Terra watched with their mouths open—

"She just jumped over it like it was nothing." Melfi said, her motivation dying even more.

"Beta doesn't understand what you are so worried about?"

Beta walked forward, standing at the edge of the bridge— all eyes on her.

"You have all been gifted powers not just from Beta, but her master too. It is an insult to his name if you doubt yourself jumping over something this small."

There was truth in what she said, but the elves had lived most of their lives powerless, it was almost hard for them to comprehend anything higher than what they've had since birth.

In this world, the strength of one's magic is determined by their raw mana, which is the basic unit in the atmosphere. The more mana a being possesses, the stronger they most likely were, in a sense, their body would continuously grant them skills, and sometimes, titles from the world.

In the case of Lumin's subordinates, since they were constantly tapping into his infinite mana supply — they were evolving and growing at a much faster rate than most species.

But this concept had not fully sunk into their heads.

Beta scoffed, looking over their shoulder to stare at them,

"If you are not going to make Beta's master proud, then I suggest you leave this place. Beta doesn't like failures".

As she said this, she turned her gaze back to the front and then…

Leap!

She was gone, her body catapulting in the air before disappearing into the numerous trees

For a few seconds, the elves stood in silence, Beta's words lingering in their heads..

Finally, one of them decided to speak -

"Lord Lumin is waiting for us, what are we standing around for, we should go." Lyra stepped forward.

Since she evolved into a Verdelith Elf, she had evolved so rapidly that the world granted her the title 'The Valkyrie'. Although they all evolved into similar species, she was the only one who was granted a title.

She took a deep breath, releasing her mana from her body. Once she felt she had gathered enough, she took a leap, her body shooting to the sky as she screamed.

"No way, she actually did it…" Ruxy muttered under her breath.

"I guess I'll go next." Pimo stepped forward, and just like Lyra, she leaped over to the forest in front of them.

"Come on, Ruxy!" Terra grabbed Ruxy's arm, and with a simple, she jumped, flying over to the forest.

All that was left was Melfi and Isla.

"You go, I'll… wait behind in case you fall." Isla said, tapping Melfi's shoulder.

"He..ehe, y..ou go first,I…I can follow behind you." Melfi was practically shaking where she stood.

Isla could tell.

"Sigh! Honestly, if we don't hurry up, Lord Lumin is going to leave us behind." She grabbed Melfi's hand.

"W..ait..wait…wait!" Melfi tried fighting.

"You trust Lord Lumin right?" Isla looked at her with a smile, "he wouldn't tell us to do something he didn't think we could handle."

"..I.. know."

Isla smiled even more, "Good, let's go!".

Meanwhile, inside the forest.

'Well I'll be damned, I didn't expect it to be this spacious.'

[Notice!]

[I have gathered the necessary information, you are currently in the goblin king territory, to your left, is the snake queen. 100% of the Outland has been taken by a group of species.]

'In other words… we might have to fight. Survival of the fittest.'

[Affirmative.]

'Do you think they are ready to battle?'

[Each of your subjects have skyrocketed from F ranks monsters to C ranks in a span of two days. Additionally, they each have Unique and Ultimate skills, making them transcend their ranks tenfolds.]

'So what you're saying is; they are strong enough to battle beings of C rank or even B rank? Hehe, I feel so proud for some reason. If monsters have rank, shouldn't I have one?'

[You do, from your initial reincarnation, you were D rank, as if now, you are an A rank class monster.]

'I see. In any case, I should address the elves and let them know, it isn't a free mortgage anymore'.

Isla and Melfi landed behind Lumin, the rest of the elves already present.

"This place looks exactly like the Forest of Disaster." Terra spoke, looking around the place.

"You can say that again." Isla added.

"So we have a problem." Lumin announced.

They all looked at him.

"A problem?" Alpha questioned.

"Yes, it turns out every region of this Outland has been claimed by monsters… Do you understand what that means?" Lumin asked.

'He was able to figure this out just from standing here? My lord really is amazing.' Lyra thought to herself.

"We have to find a new place to live?" Terra asked.

"No." Lumin responded.

"We'll work for them?" Ruxy chimed in.

"Eh? No."

"Are we going back to the Disaster forest?" Melfi's face was filled with fear, only because she didn't want to pass that bridge again.

'Damn…not a single one even thought-'

"So we are going to take a territory for ourselves?" Beta guessed.

Lumin's face lit up.

"Ding ding! We have the correct answer." he pointed at Beta with his tentacle, "No turning back".
