Asher met Liam's glare with a challenging stare of his own. "Believe what you will, Liam. But my intentions are for Alpha Thane's benefit as much as my own."
Thane could sense the tension rising between his adopted son and this alpha and decided to finally speak, his voice firm and commanding. "Enough. Asher, if you are to remain here, you will be a guest under my conditions. Any breach of trust will end our arrangement—immediately."
Asher inclined his head, a glint of triumph in his eyes. "Understood, Alpha Thane. I look forward to working together."
Liam's jaw clenched as he watched Asher, his mistrust clear. But for now, Thane's decision was final. Asher would remain in their midst, his presence a constant reminder of the unease that hung between them.
Just before thane could say anything, the doors to the throne room opened with an elder coming in.
