Chapter 18.
Alyssa's POV.
Sitting on my bed, I gripped the NYU acceptance letter so firmly that my knuckles became white. Though deep down I knew better than I wanted to think this piece of paper was my ticket out of this dream.
"Why me?" I spoke softly to the vacant room.
Not sure whether I was referring to the custom or just everything either.
I only wanted to lead a regular life free from this realm of horrors. But it seemed as though I was always dragged back into the darkness no matter what I attempted or did. Running away sprang to me more than once.
The idea of leaving in the middle of the night and vanishing into the human world from which nobody knew who I was, where I might be free... It sounded really appealing. Still, the hazards were too great. Should they discover me, I hardly wanted to consider what they would do.
