Chapter 24 - Chapter 24: Rebellion at Hydra Bases

According to the intelligence, Führer Hitler will send someone to inspect the headquarters in the Alps.

Chen Mo knew that Hitler had been dissatisfied with Red Skull for a long time. Originally, Hydra was handed over to Schmidt to provide new powerful weapons for the German army. However, after Schmidt took over, Hydra began to expand massively, but provided few weapons. This arrangement by Chen Mo further aroused Hitler's suspicion, so it was not surprising that he sent a trusted aide to investigate.

Moreover, another piece of intelligence caught Chen Mo's attention.

Multiple Hydra bases were rebelling!

Before leaving Norway, Chen Mo had already ordered all European bases to withdraw their forces and focus entirely on technological research, avoiding involvement in the battles between the Nazis and the Allies.

However, now several European bases, except for the three bases Chen Mo intended to keep, including the headquarters in the Alps, which were following Chen Mo's orders and hiding to focus on technological research, were openly defying Chen Mo's orders and joining Hitler's attacks on the Allies.

"Couldn't hold back any longer, could you?"

After reading the intelligence, Chen Mo couldn't help but sneer.

In fact, the rebellion of these bases was within Chen Mo's expectations, and it could even be said that he deliberately allowed it to happen.

During his control of Hydra, Chen Mo had discovered that although Red Skull had a strong grip on Hydra, with most of the organization treating him as a deity and strictly following his orders without hesitation, there were still some who remained loyal to Hitler. These were Hitler's plants within Hydra, as Hydra was initially handed over to Red Skull by Hitler, but Red Skull's ambition gradually led him to take control and drift away from Hitler.

Now, with all those loyal to him transferred away, only Hitler's die-hard loyalists remained in control of the bases. Naturally, they became restless and started taking action after Red Skull had been missing for so long.

Chen Mo put the intelligence paper back into his space, took out another special paper, wrote down orders in code, and placed it back in the hidden compartment.

The papers used to record information were specially made. If the compartment was opened incorrectly, the paper would self-ignite, leaving no trace behind.

In fact, Chen Mo could have used the radio. He had a Hydra-manufactured radio device in his space, but using it in the base would easily be intercepted.

Although it couldn't be deciphered, it would still arouse unnecessary suspicion. Therefore, most of the time, Chen Mo used this old but secretive method to transmit information.

As for the inspection personnel sent by Hitler, Chen Mo directly ordered them all to be eliminated. The rebellious bases were to remain under surveillance until Chen Mo personally dealt with them.

At this time, Dr. Zola had made progress in his research on the Tesseract. The energy within the Tesseract could now be extracted and utilized. Many of Dr. Zola's previous ideas had become a reality with the support of this energy. New weapons had been developed, with immense power, but they required a long charging time and were quite bulky.

Chen Mo had already ordered Dr. Zola to continue optimizing the research and not to equip the troops yet. Therefore, the rebellious Hydra troops did not have energy weapons.

From the temporary headquarters in London, Chen Mo led an elite combat squad of the Strategic Scientific Reserve to attack these rebellious Hydra bases. Chen Mo would personally eliminate these tumors and make Hydra disappear from the eyes of the world.

Before departure, Howard called Chen Mo to his laboratory. Due to time constraints, Howard couldn't tailor combat equipment for Chen Mo, so he let Chen Mo choose from his stock.

Chen Mo didn't hesitate and ignored a pile of high-tech weapons and equipment, directly picking out the shield from the movie. To Chen Mo, this was the most valuable item.

The silver-white metal shield felt much lighter than it looked.

"No, no, that one isn't finished yet," Howard quickly waved his hand to stop him.

"What material is this?" Chen Mo ignored him and asked while examining the shield.

In the movie, this shield was incredibly powerful. Not only was it indestructible, but it could also neutralize any attack, protecting the person behind it from any harm. In the Avengers, Steve used it to withstand Thor's full-force hammer strike without any damage, which piqued Chen Mo's interest in the shield's material.

"Sound-absorbing steel, stronger than regular steel, but only one-third the weight," Howard answered helplessly. "Most importantly, it can neutralize attacks."

The shield was round, with a diameter of about seventy centimeters. When held in front, it could cover the entire upper body, and with a slight bend, it could also protect the head. On the battlefield, this shield would greatly enhance both survival and combat capabilities.

Moreover, its material was extremely hard, suitable for both offense and defense. Combined with Chen Mo's immense strength, it could deliver powerful attacks. In the movie, Steve was invincible on the battlefield, eliminating all Hydra bases, and this shield played a crucial role.

"Then why not mass-produce it for the entire army?"

Chen Mo strapped the shield to his left arm and swung it around. It felt very comfortable, and he nodded in satisfaction.

"This material is extremely rare on Earth. The one you have is the only one of its kind," Howard said, watching helplessly as Chen Mo took possession of his beloved collection. He wanted to object but didn't dare to speak up.

He knew that once something good was in Chen Mo's hands, it was impossible to get it back. He could only resign himself to fate, regretting not hiding the shield earlier.

"Did you make this?" Chen Mo asked, looking at Howard, who was visibly upset.

Howard blushed slightly. "It was Dr. Myron MacLain, a very skilled materials scientist. During an experiment, he accidentally mixed vibranium, iron, and an unknown substance to create this shield. But he couldn't replicate the process afterward."

Howard finished, shaking his head in regret.

Chen Mo knew about vibranium, a special metal found in meteorites that fell to Earth. It was incredibly hard but very rare and precious.

Howard's mention of Dr. Myron MacLain piqued Chen Mo's interest.

"Where is Dr. MacLain now?"

"New York. He's trying to recreate this super alloy, but vibranium is extremely rare, and progress has been limited due to the scarcity of experimental materials." Howard was familiar with Dr. MacLain, as they often collaborated, and he knew his situation well.

Chen Mo nodded and didn't ask further. He had Howard paint the shield black and then left the laboratory with the shield, under Howard's reluctant gaze.
