Chapter 54 - Ch 54: Mr. Welos

Heh, did you really think I would believe that, Mr. Welos? I held myself back from showing doubt and continued the conversation to dig deeper for information.

It was said that the head of the Perliand family had previously died from a strange illness. Strangely, upon examination, there were no signs of any known disease. This illness was referred to as'strange' due to its mysterious symptoms; the sufferer experienced seizures, bulging eyes, and labored, heavy breathing.

Many people believe that it was not merely an illness, but a curse placed by Mr. Welos. This suspicion only fueled my curiosity to uncover the truth behind it all. Was Mr. Welos truly guilty, or was there something darker that had yet to be revealed?

However, there were also those who doubted the rumors. They said that at the time of his brother's death, Mr. Welos was far away from the Perliand family residence, making it impossible for him to be directly involved in the incident. Yet, I couldn't shake the feeling that there was something darker behind his seemingly friendly smile.

As a journalist, my main duty is to dig for information, even from seemingly trivial matters. Every clue, no matter how small, could be the key to uncovering the truth.

However, the more I spoke with Mr. Welos, the clearer it became that he was a man skilled at hiding something. Every question I posed was met with ambiguous answers, as if the man were toying with me.

"Damn," I muttered to myself, feeling frustrated by the lack of progress. Mr. Welos, with his enigmatic smile, withdrew from the conversation as I began to press him harder. This man was incredibly annoying, always finding excuses to evade.

Finally, feeling disappointed, I returned to my room without any satisfying information. I couldn't shake the feeling that something was very wrong here, but I didn't have enough evidence to support my intuition.

Once in my room, I sat on the edge of the bed, trying to reflect on everything that had happened. However, before I could think further, an unexpected pain struck my chest. The pain was so intense, as if something were cruelly squeezing my heart. I fell to the ground, my body began to tremble violently, and fear crept into my mind.

"Please... help me..." I murmured, but no sound came from my mouth. Panic began to take over, and I wanted to scream, but it felt like all my strength had vanished. My breath became ragged, and my head felt light, as if the world around me was starting to fade.

As I struggled to stay conscious, strange figures appeared in my room. They stepped through the walls like shadows crossing the light. "Who are they?" I thought in confusion. Are they witches? Are they the ones doing this to me?

One of them, a boy with a cold gaze, approached me. I could feel his sharp stare piercing through me, and my heart raced faster. With trembling hands, the boy pulled out a knife and brought it close to my mouth. I wanted to fight back, but my body wouldn't move. What was he doing? Was he trying to kill me?

However, before the knife could touch me, something horrifying happened. From my mouth, thick black sludge poured out, foul-smelling and disgusting. The sludge moved on its own, as if it had a life of its own, trying to escape. The boy immediately acted, trying to freeze the sludge with ice that emerged from his hands.

"So, that's what really happened?" Ryan stared intently at the girl standing before him. Ryan's gaze was unwavering, searching for the truth behind every word spoken.

"Yes! I'm not lying! That man—Mr. Welos—I'm sure he's the one who almost got me into trouble earlier!" The girl's voice trembled, but there was a firmness in her tone, as if every word was an urgent confession.
